Tradition has it that King Alfonso I 'The Catholic' constructed this building on 21 February 746, and the excavations carried out at the start of the refurbishing work to turn it into a hotel confirm this theory. The current monastery was founded on this site and was run by the Order of San Benito until the Desamortización of 1835 (Large-scale selling of State and Church assets). Two rooms with archaeological remains, pottery in particular, uncovered during the refurbishing work are testament to this distant past. The town centre of Cangas de Onis lies some 1 1/2 km away and it is around 95 km to Oviedo-Aviles Airport.

2 single rooms and 64 double rooms are available to guests in a 2-storey main building and a 3-storey auxiliary building. Multilingual staff (English, German, French) at the reception are happy to assist guests at the reception desk round the clock. Check-in and check-out are available 24 hours a day. Relaxing place, great base for Picos

We booked for 2 nights & liked it enough to extend our stay. Fantastic building & staff, with a decent enough room in the new bit. I echo what others have said about noisy rooms, you can definitely hear other people showering and also talking when outside in the corridor. We had dinner here one night and a few snacks another night. Both nice and served by great staff. Everywhere was really clean and tidy. Looked like a decent choice of food at breakfast however it was not easy having to persuade the staff to only charge €2 for coffee or tea for breakfast instead of €18. That was an expensive coffee! If we could have a kettle in the room life would have been so much better! In short a fabulous base for exploring the Picos plus a lovely walk to town/ back with no hassle. A nice place in the mountains yet close to the beach.

Thirty minutes drive up from the sea in the mountains, you will find this old convent converted to a stylish hotel set in a nice surrounding.The room overlooking the garden and a mountain side was nice and with plenty of space. We had a small balcony which was nice.Friendly and alert staff -in the lobby, at breakfast and household.Breakfast well presented and good. Living history in a spectacular area

Wonderful stay at the foothills of Los Picos de Europa. This is truly an historic hotel with excavations and conservation going on! Try to stay in the monastery rather than the new annex which is attached. This must rate as the best hotel that I have stayed in. An absolutely fantastic Parador located in an old monastery.
