    Brilliant hotel, dodgy wifi

    rating09 May 2026

Stunning gothic hotel with well appointed rooms well equipped. Views over the square were fab and great proximity to local places to eat. Two downsides:1) Wifi really really slow to the point of being unusable - revert to 5g on phone2) You had to pay for bottled water - never been in a hotel like that.Oh and the staff were brilliant - great english and very helpful. Hotel- cmanager, Owner at Aparthotel Arai, responded to this review Dear 4titude1959,Thank you very much for your review. We are delighted to know that you enjoyed the character of our Gothic building, the well-appointed room, the views over the square and our location close to local places to eat. Your kind words about our team are sincerely appreciated and will be shared with them.We are sorry that the Wi-Fi connection was not as reliable as expected. Our reception team is always available to assist during the stay, and in moments of higher network demand we can provide a Wi-Fi router to help improve the connection. Regarding the bottled water, we understand your comment and appreciate you sharing it with us. As part of our direct booking benefits, we are pleased to offer this courtesy to guests who reserve through our official website, and your feedback helps us review how we communicate these details more clearly.Thank you again for your valuable comments. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Aparthotel Arai on a future visit to Barcelona.Kind regards,Greg Behn, General Manager

    Not a good night sleep.

    rating21 Apr 2026

Stayed here for four days last week. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the staff was excellent—friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout the stay.Unfortunately, the comfort level didn’t match the rest of the experience. The bed was extremely firm—honestly felt like sleeping on a brick. I even asked if there were any extra comforters or padding available to make it more comfortable, but there weren’t any options.Noise was another major issue. The way the building is set up, sound carries easily from the hallways into the rooms, making it hard to relax or sleep. If your room faces the rear, it overlooks a square that stays active late into the night—there were people talking and music playing even around 4 AM, and the noise echoes right up into the rooms.Overall, it’s a great-looking hotel with wonderful staff, but if a quiet, restful night’s sleep is important to you, this may not be the best choice. Hotel- cmanager, Owner at Aparthotel Arai, responded to this review Dear guest,Thank you very much for sharing your feedback about your stay at Aparthotel Arai.We are pleased to know that you appreciated the beauty of our historic building and the friendly, attentive service provided by our team.We sincerely regret, however, that the comfort of the bed and the noise affected your rest. Our beds have been recently renewed with our guests’ comfort in mind, although we understand that mattress firmness is a very personal preference. Regarding noise, all our windows are double-glazed, but our privileged location in the heart of the Gothic Quarter can sometimes be lively. Had we been informed during your stay, our team would have been happy to look for possible alternatives, such as a room facing another side of the building, subject to availability. We appreciate your comments, which help us continue improving our guests’ experience and hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you again.Kind regards,Greg Behn, General Manager

    A mixed bag

    rating26 Mar 2026

Upon first arriving we were quite impressed with the room and location (being in the heart of the Gothic Quarter)We had a room on the third floor facing the plaza which was buzzing with a few local bars and tapas restaurants as well as frequent buskers playing music. We didn't mind this at all as we expected it wouldn't be a quiet hotel given its location. The balcony door / window really didn't do much to sound proof this. The first night we were woken up constantly throughout the night by a large group of shady looking characters drinking and partying with music blaring from a speaker till the police would come out about 5-6am to move them on. We didn't say anything and put it down to a one-off.The next evening was the same again but worse so I went down to reception at 5am to make them aware and request if we could move to a quieter room on the other side as this was the second night running. The guy at resection said he would mention it to the manager when he's in around 8am. I also sent them an email with a video I got of these people outside. We didn't get a response so we phoned down in the morning around 10am but the guy said he couldn't do anything about it.We went down to speak to him face to face. He said he didn't have any rooms available (only upgraded ones) and refused to move us unless we paid extra. Eventually he contacted the manager and they moved us to another room so the last night was much better. The sound proofing in the room was much better and on a quieter side. The square was generally a bit of a shady place if I'm honest. I loved the gothic quarter on the whole and everything is walking distance but unfortunately I would probably stay somewhere else next time because we had to fight to get a room change as well as contacting them after to release the security deposit they were holding. Hotel- cmanager, Owner at Aparthotel Arai, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughtful feedback following your stay at Aparthotel Arai.We are delighted that you appreciated our privileged location in the heart of the Gothic Quarter and your initial impressions of the room. At the same time, we sincerely regret that certain aspects of your stay did not fully meet your expectations. Please accept our sincere apologies for the noise disturbance you experienced. While our property is set within a vibrant and historic area, and perceptions of noise can vary between guests, we fully understand how disruptive this situation must have been and we deeply regret the impact it had on your comfort. We also apologize for the delay in addressing your request for a room change and any inconvenience this may have caused. Once availability permitted, our team was pleased to relocate you to a quieter room, and we are glad this improved your experience. We would like to assure you that our team is always committed to assisting our guests promptly, subject to availability, and we continuously strive to provide the most suitable solution to any concern raised during a stay.Regarding your security deposit, please note that it is always released on the day of departure. However, depending on your bank and country of origin, it may take a few days for the transaction to be fully reflected in your account. We sincerely value your feedback, as it helps us continue refining the level of service we aim to provide. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future and offering you a more seamless and comfortable experience.Greg Behn, General Manager

    Scammed

    rating23 Mar 2026

Beautiful aparthotel, shame about being scammed by the hotel taxi. Also, the beds are very uncomfortable two single beds toghter and the rooms are extremely noisy you can hear everything, from the lift to people talking outside. It's ok for one night Hotel- cmanager, Owner at Aparthotel Arai, responded to this review Dear Mr. Camacho,Thank you for sharing your feedback following your four-night stay in our propertyWe are sorry to learn that certain aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. However, we would like to respectfully clarify that no concerns were raised to our team during your stay. Had we been made aware of any issue—whether regarding comfort, noise, or transportation—we would have been fully available to assist and resolve it in real time.Regarding the taxi service, we would like to clearly state that we only work with licensed, regulated providers operating under official city fares. We categorically do not engage in any practices that would result in guests being overcharged, and we take such allegations very seriously. As no concern was brought to our attention during your stay, we were unfortunately not given the opportunity to investigate or assist you at the time. Should you wish to discuss this further, we kindly invite you to contact us directly so we may review the matter with you.In relation to the beds, our accommodations feature queen-size beds, which can be configured as twin beds upon request. The two mattresses are securely joined with a zipper system designed to provide a uniform sleeping surface. We regret if this did not meet your preference; however, no concerns were communicated to us during your stay.Your room was assigned on one of the upper floors on a quieter side of the building. While we continuously work to preserve a comfortable environment within our historic property, perceptions of noise can vary between guests. We appreciate your feedback, though we always encourage guests to share any concerns during their stay so we can act immediately. It is regrettable that we did not have the opportunity to address these matters while you were with us.Kind regards,Greg Behn, General Manager

Amazing hotel in the centre of Gothic quarter

    rating23 Feb 2026

I have just got back from a trip to Barcelona with husband and 2 children. We stayed at the Arai aparthotel on a jet2 package. This hotel is gorgeous and I would definitely come back. It is situated in the Gothic district which has the most wonderful charm for the city and much better than the tacky bustle of Le Rambla. It is very central to everything and close to 2 metro stops - Liceu and Jaune 1 making it easy to get around the city. The amenities are perfect, comfy bed, kitchen with everything you need - pans, full size fridge (which is stocked with wine if you want to pay mini bar price but was reasonable), toaster, kettle etc. Bathroom is gorgeous with great shower pressure and white company products. The decor in this hotel really makes it stand out, the pictures do not really do it justice. It smells amazing throughout, daily cleaning if you want it. The hotel staff were very supportive and welcoming. They are quick and efficient. There is a luggage store for final day and checkout was not until noon! Very helpful. Next door is a lovely tapas restaurant which is also a must try. On the roof top there are some gorgeous views of Barcelona and a great place to watch the sun go down with a glass of Cava. There is a pool which was too cold to go in this time of year but in the summer would make a nice addition. Honestly could not fault this place and would consider coming back again. Hotel- cmanager, Owner at Aparthotel Arai, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience with us.It is fantastic that you had such a brilliant stay at Aparthotel Arai.We are delighted that you appreciated our prime position in the Gothic Quarter and found the area so charming. It is wonderful that our proximity to Liceu and Jaume I metro stations made exploring Barcelona convenient for your family. We are also thrilled that you enjoyed the comfort of your accommodation, from the cozy bed to the well-equipped kitchen. It is great that you found our bathroom facilities impressive with excellent water pressure and The White Company amenities. Additionally, we are pleased that our unique decor caught your attention and that the building's authentic charm exceeded your expectations from the photos. We are grateful that our team provided you with supportive and efficient service, and that our luggage storage and extended checkout time proved helpful. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming your family back.Warm regards,Greg Behn, General Manager
