A smile, hello, how are you goes a LONG way with me.

    rating04 Aug 2025

I am a flight attendant and have stayed in many hotels. This is my first review I have ever written. My need to write it because the service was so bad, makes me really want to write more reviews to acknowledge GOOD service. I do not need much to be satisfied. I can put up with making me pay for each in room coffee pod beyond the first two, or getting one pool/beach towel every four days, or maybe the worst and most dangerous gym I have ever experienced. I could put up with all of this if the staff didn’t seem like they were intentionally trying to make me never want to return. The kindest people here have been house keeping and ONE of the people at the front desk. When you walk in during the morning and there is no one in the lobby, the minimum I would expect is a smile, but no, no smile, no hola, no bon dia, no como esta, instead a non smiling face of judgement. Again I am not an entitled rude person. I wait to be called upon before graciously saying “excuse me, sorry for disturbing you, but can you help me with…..” If the front desk is not there to help me at a hotel, I don’t know who is. The front desk here could REALLY learn a lot from housekeeping on how to act in the hospitality industry, to be kind, gracious, and courteous. Thank you to the housekeepers, or I don’t think I could stand staying here for three more nights.

No, go somewhere else but here!

Our room was not ready when we checked in, and grabbing lunch at the restaurant was recommended. The man working rudely said he couldn't take us when we said we didn't have reservations, and walked off. Young woman at the outside bar was equally rude, as well as the manager, who rudely told us we couldn't order anymore drinks after the one we were ordering at 10:45 (the bar is open until 11). We were made to feel very unwelcome, so we checked out 4 days early and found a wonderful hotel in Barcelona to stay at. Don't stay here, unless you like being treated badly. The people at the front desk were nice, and the first night we were there, Juan, the bartender outside, was very nice.

Read between the lines and book with extreme care

We went here based on reviews that were obviously written with rose tinted glasses. We arrived at 14.00, checked in and went to the room. Very clean - that's where the good bits finish. If you expecting to get a hotel like the photographs forget it. Went into the room with 2 suitcases, nowhere to put them, small hanging rail with 6 hangers, opened the balcony door and got nothing but heat, diesel fumes and the sounds of tractors moving the yachts in and out of the water. This was interspersed with the hammering of heavy metal and loud radios. The pool pictured is sympathetically done so as not to show its on a road that serves the dockyard. We felt we had been mis sold our hotel and they had not met our expectations taken from their false advertising. This is our opinion! We went for a short break to celebrate the end of my cancer treatment and our 30 wedding anniversary. The hotel has been asked by our holiday broker for some reimbursement but refused. We stayed just over an hour.Untrustworthy and un caring hotel.

    What a Gem

Just back from an amazing stay at this hotel, the service from check in to check out was faultless. The rooms are refreshing with plenty of room, bathrooms were spacious and the view from the balcony was fantastic. We were on Bed and Breakfast, the buffet breakfast catered for everyone, with hot and cold food, freshly baked pastries and non stop juice, tea and coffee. The traini station is just behind the hotel with regular trains into Barcelona and access to the more traditional resorts of the Costa Brava.Mataro itself is a tradiotional catalan town, with an dabundance of shops and a great central square bustling with cafes and bakeries. Patricia Planet, Atención al cliente/recepción at Hotel Atenea Port Barcelona Mataro, responded to this review We are delighted to hear that you had an incredible stay and that our service, from check-in to check-out, was impeccable. It’s wonderful to know that you enjoyed the spaciousness of the rooms, the view from the balcony, and the variety of the buffet breakfast at our Arrels restaurant. We’re also pleased that the convenient location near the train station suited your travel plans. We greatly appreciate your kind words and look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future. Thank you for choosing us!

    Zero stars

    rating26 May 2024

Never staying here again. I went and stayed again in February of 2024, after my brother’s passing in Spain. I found out that rooms with a/c were selectively and discriminatory assigned. I found this out because I was at the front desk and witnessed a guest complaining about how strong their a/c was. The front desk clerk was to lady and unprofessional to walk to room to show his Latvian guest where the a/c panel was located. I volunteered to do it; being an English speaker. To my great surprise, there was a/c. I asked for a room with a/c the next day because of the extreme heat in mine and was told the same lie. I checked out ln the spot. I never got my money back for the days I didn’t stay. Went to another hotel in Mataro and spent 3 weeks in Peace. At least, we know Latvians get a/c. If you are not Latvian, don’t go to this hotel. If you are black or brown, DEFINITELY do not go here: you won’t be treated with respect or dignity; regardless of how you see or treat the World. I live in the United States and I spent thousands of dollars staying at this hotel. In the past 14 years, I have traveled to Spain at least twice a year to see my ailing brother and stayed right there. In the end, they treated me in the most horrible way imaginable. As such, this place should be boycotted by all sensible travelers. Never give your money to a place that treats other humans like this. I am sure, the manager or whomever will respond with a canned answer. Don’t buy it. This place is poorly run and above all DISCRIMINATORY and RACIST. What hurts the most is that I paid for my own suffering. I fell for the star rating. Atenea Port is not even a 1 star. There other hotels in Mataro way cheaper, just as clean, nice breakfast buffets, rooms with a/c, and with absolutely enchanting and kind staff (i.e New Hotel Colon, B&B, NH, etc.). It’s location is completely overrated: there is beach everywhere in Mataro.
