Location

This hotel is situated in the Ensanche district; just a few minutes walk from the exhibition centre and the congress palace, while Barcelona's beach is just 2 km away. Montjuïc mountain, Pueblo Espanyol as well as the National Palace and the National Art Museum of catalonia are also just a short walk away. The nearest bus stop with direct access to the airport as well as numerous restaurants and bars are situated within easy reach.

Facility

The hotel has 9 suites and 338 double rooms, which are located on 11 storeys and are reachable by lift. Guests are warmly welcomed by multilingual staff at the 24-hour reception desk in the lobby. Check-in/check-out service is available round the clock. Amenities available at the hotel include a baggage storage service, safe, currency exchange service and cash machine.     I would sit in the chair in front of the window and pour myself a whiskey, late at night after the work, and just enjoy the view. From the 6th floor of Catalonia Barcelona Plaza I could see the whole Plaza Espanya, fountains in front of the National museum, Miro foundation, whole Montjuic. A breathtaking view, half of Barcelona. It was the best few days in hotel ever, unforgettable. All good, great food, good place. I would recommend, I will go back!

    We had a view overlooking the plaza but couldn’t open the window due to the loud noise from the plaza construction. Our shower completely flooded the entire bathroom and hallway. We didn’t have any hot water on departure morning shower. Rooms are very ordinary. Pool area is nice and staff at bar at pool was very friendly. Check in and out was very smooth. Very large group at hotel (4/13) that completely dominated the hotel (including lobby) that wasn’t comfortable for a leisure guest.     I stayed at Catalonia Plaza España last Sunday as I needed a comfortable place to spend the day in Barcelona before leaving in the evening. From the very beginning, the experience was excellent.I would especially like to thank the two gentlemen at the reception on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, I did not catch their names, but their kindness, professionalism and attention to detail truly made the difference. They kindly arranged an early check-in at 12:30 and, as a thoughtful gesture knowing that I would leave around 19:00, they upgraded me to a beautiful premium room and even offered the parking. This level of flexibility and genuine hospitality is something guests truly remember.The hotel itself is very spacious and elegant, with a magnificent view over the Fira area. My room and the bathroom were absolutely impeccable, very comfortable and perfectly maintained.I also really appreciate how convenient the location is. It is very pleasant to know that there are several restaurants, bars, shops, as well as a swimming pool and fitness facilities nearby, which makes the stay even more enjoyable.This is exactly the kind of hospitality that builds long-term loyalty. Experiences like this are the reason why I will gladly return and confidently recommend the hotel to friends and colleagues.A special thank you again to the reception team for their kindness and professionalism.     Unfortunately a poor experience.

    My 3-day stay at Catalonia Barcelona Plaza was completely unacceptable.We paid $260 Euros for the New Year’s Eve fixed menu dinner, and both my partner and I ended up with severe food poisoning. I was so sick that I couldn’t eat for days and had to go to the ER. Our New Year’s was ruined.During the stay, we repeatedly complained about multiple issues: the TV didn’t work, no one ever came to fix it, the water smelled like sewage, and neither the heat nor air conditioning worked.Since checking out, I’ve called three times trying to speak with management and was told every time they were “not available.” There has been zero accountability.For the price and reputation of this hotel, this experience was shocking.     No AC, not friendly hospitality

    Upon entering the hotel, there is no one to greet you. Bellmen are on site but unbothered to help you with luggage. My luggage was literally on the street until someone decided to help.There is no warm welcome in the check in area. Just -"ur id and credit card". The lady who checked me in, charged me twice. Her colleague asked her to double check and then charged me again. So by 3.30 PM there were not one or two BUT five charges on my credit card.After careful observation for 3 consecutive days, I've noticed they put certain tourists on the first 6 floors (by first elevators). There is another elevator behind that one, which takes you to higher floors.Our floor however had the loudest noise of clubbing until 1am in the morning. The bathroom smelled like sewage ALL the time.After 2 hours of checking in, we noticed the room was hot. We called front desk and gentlemen working told us he'll send maintenance. 30 minutes passed and we called again and the lady said to call HER back in 5 minutes. We called back and another lady told us that because the building is too old they turn the ac off in the entire property during winter season, so even if I place the ac on a normal condition degree, only heat waves will come out.-"To please open the window for fresh air"I thought it was a joke at first. A manager suppouse to call me, and he or she never did. After I complained to the front desk still no one called me. So I guess maintenance man was never going to come in. 🤔Their communication between guests is very poor. There is no acknowledgement or friendliness. Even the ladies at the breakfast buffet wont say good morning to you. I felt rushed during my morning meals. Constantly being watched to have my plates removed sooner than fast as possible.Cleaning lady at the front desk would clean the floors with no clear direction on which floors are wet and which ones are dry. There is no close door signs while they clean. They also stop elevators with a rug to clean the elevator while you are waiting to go upstairs.We called for room service the last night, the guy who answered the phone did not know what came in included in the vegan pizza. He did not know how much it was going to be either, we had to wait for the lady to knock on our door, with food that wasn't even hot enough to eat.There is a lot of homeless people as soon as you exit the property asking you for money or cigarettes.I have way over 2 million views and reviews and never felt so disappointed to even write this out load. 21st century and no AC, no properly working sinks, loud music until 1 am. There is no clear truthful information on their website about their ac features. Traveling from out of the country with elderly parents and a service dog is already difficult. Hotel catalonia failed at their hospitality, at their commitment of service and gratitude towards me. Pictures look fancy , even the entrance looks fancy. But not worth it for families or couples, especially for tourists coming from other countries. Just be warn. Been all over Europe and this hotel was by FAR the worst.
