    Selected this hotel based on a recommendation and was somewhat disappointed. The hotel looks nice and it’s in a fantastic area. Our room was relatively small with very limited area to unpack your belonging. The walls are super thin can I could hear the next room phone conversations clearly. Bathroom was good with a spacious shower and place underneath the sink to unpack your toiletries. The most frustrating part of our stay is that our key was deprogrammed every time we left the room. So essentially had to get a new key every time. I’m not sure if this was a problem with our room or the hotel. (We made sure after the second time to keep keys separate from phone) I complained and they were very apologetic but the problem was never solved. With so many great hotels in Barcelona I’m not sure I would stay here again. 😔 DANIEL CORTINA, General Manager at Hotel Catalonia Eixample 1864, responded to this review Dear guest,Thank you very much for your feedback. Concerning the magnetic keys, we are totally aware of the problem. To make it short, the recorded signal is too weak. And if you place the card near any kind of electronic device, the signal goes off. We have been dealing with the system supplier and have never got any kind of reasonable solution. So, we have made a final decision: in the coming months we will proceed to remove the current system, which will be replaced by a new system. With the new system it won't be necessary to insert the card in the lock to open the door. It will be enough by approaching the card to the lock and the room door will open.     The perfect place to stay in Barcelona

    This was the most perfect location for our exploration of Barcelona. Great neighborhood close the the best walking and shopping areas.The hotel had serviceable rooms--clean, the best showers ever, and a good bed--and a great little bar. The breakfast was good with lots of choices but what was best was Mark, the desk person when we stumbled in jet lagged and tired and he helped us get into our room early.     My second time staying here, its excellent location and friendly staff make it an excellent stay, the rooms are small but so clean and have everything you need. I would have liked a street view room. The roof top pool and sun terrace is a lovely place to relax. Its within walking distance of the metro on Passieg de Gracia. Marc at reception is an excellent ambassador for this hotel, he is friendly, efficient and welcoming.     Whilst staff weren’t unfriendly they didn’t particularly make us feel welcome. Hotel itself was good location, paid for premium room (wanted coffee machine and bath). Could not fault breakfast plenty of choice and the staff there at least smiled.     Room was nice and pool area, but staff, breakfest needs to be upgraded

    Room was amazing, breakfest was awful if you compare to other catalonia hotels. Breakfest venue was miserable and cold. Pool area was lovely, room was spacious and relaxing, nice interior. Staff in reception could be more welcoming they seemed very exhausted and boared. Concerning the temperature at the breakfast room, let us inform you that we had a breakdown in the electronics that control the air conditioning in the ground floor. Regarding our Reception Staff, we are very surprised because of your comments. They are usually very welcoming and extremely kind with our guests. But we will take your observation as a warning.
