  An amazing hotel.

  This is our second time here (2024) pleasant welcome from the staff, very helpful and explained the tourist tax which would be paid on checkout. The lobby is beautiful decorated and has a vintage look. The room (211) was very clean, tidy and spacious with a comfy bed(soft). The bathroom was spotless with no mould signs, towels soft, shower gel, shampoo supplied. Closets are very big with hangers, a safe and lifting inside which is a nice touch.Every time we went out and returned a nice greeting was waiting asking what we did and how was the day. On checkout we paid $36 for tourist tax (2 nights)Jeffery (who took our bags) to look after was informative, polite and great member of staff. The hotel is in the centre of everything you would want to visit, hop on and off stops in the centre, bars and places to eat. But do venture off the main areas as service was better and the food and drinks were fantastic at very good prices.   Great stay close to everything.

  This is the second time we have stayed here. We arrived after a transatlantic crossing by boat, then spent a few days before jumping off to travel through Spain and Portugal. We always seem to arrive before Sant Jordi, but the chaos on the street stops at the door of the hotel. The service was excellent, rooms were quiet and clean, and the staff was very friendly and attentive. I want to give a special shout out to Gaston (not the Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, the other Gaston) who always greeted us by name, always tried to ease our way coming and going, and wished us well after grabbing a taxi for us.   Urgent issues with room cleanliness.

  Stayed at Catalonia Plaza Catalunya in Barcelona for 2 nights in May 2026 and was extremely disappointed—this hotel does not meet 4-star standards.From arrival, the entrance felt unsafe, with uneven makeshift steps both up and down into the hotel. The main double doors are antique timber doors that are very difficult to open, especially when carrying luggage, and no assistance was offered by staff.Security staff were unfriendly and didn’t make us feel comfortable even though we were guests. The 2 lifts to the 4th floor were particularly concerning—very old, noisy, and banging during operation. They felt unsafe and in urgent need of maintenance or replacement.The room itself had multiple issues. The en-suite had no ventilation, a sliding door with no latch, causing the entire bedroom to steam up after a shower. There was a strong drain smell, and the sink was partially blocked.The most unacceptable issue was the bedding. After requesting fresh sheets, I returned late in the evening to find that the “clean” bedding was visibly stained and appeared to be mouldy. This made it impossible to sleep, especially before an early flight. I did make a video & take photos of the sheet. It was discussing. At €476 for 2 nights (room only), this experience was far below expectations. I would not recommend this hotel.   Avoid at all costs — this hotel clearly does NOT deserve its 4 stars

  À fuir absolument — cet hôtel ne mérite clairement pas ses 4 étoilesSeul point positif : l’emplacement. Pour le reste, l’expérience a été catastrophique du début à la fin.Nous avons rencontré plusieurs problèmes graves pendant tout le séjour, sans aucune réelle prise en charge par le personnel, malgré plusieurs signalements :Odeur permanente de fumée de cigarette provenant d’une chambre au rez-de-chaussée, envahissant notre chambre la nuit et rendant l’air irrespirable, alors que l’hôtel est censé être non-fumeur. Le problème a été signalé immédiatement, mais aucune solution concrète n’a été apportée. Pire : le dernier soir à 23h, la sécurité est venue nous déranger pour tenter de justifier la situation au lieu de la résoudre.Climatisation bloquée à 27°C, transformant la chambre en véritable four. Malgré des relances répétées dès la première nuit, aucune intervention technique ni solution sérieuse n’a été proposée, à part “ouvrir les fenêtres”, ce qui est inadmissible pour un hôtel affichant 4 étoiles.Chambre vétuste et mal entretenue : murs abîmés, nombreux impacts visibles et traces d’humidité au plafond de la salle de bain, donnant une impression générale de négligence et de manque d’entretien.Le plus choquant reste le désintérêt total du personnel, qui n’a jamais cherché à résoudre les problèmes ni proposé le moindre geste commercial.On ne réserve pas un hôtel 4 étoiles pour vivre ce type d’expérience. À ce prix, il existe de nombreux établissements bien mieux entretenus et bien plus professionnels à Barcelone.Nous ne reviendrons évidemment pas et déconseillons fortement cet hôtel.---Avoid at all costs — this hotel clearly does NOT deserve its 4 starsThe only positive point is the location. Everything else about our stay was extremely disappointing.We experienced several serious issues throughout the entire stay, and despite reporting them multiple times, no real action was ever taken by the staff:Constant cigarette smoke coming from a ground-floor room entered our bedroom at night, making the air almost impossible to breathe — even though the hotel is supposed to be non-smoking. We reported the issue immediately, yet nothing was done. Even worse, on the last evening at 11 pm, security came to disturb us just to justify the situation instead of fixing it.Air conditioning stuck at 27°C (80°F), turning the room into an oven. We reported this from the very first night and followed up repeatedly. No technician came, and the only “solution” offered was to open the windows — completely unacceptable for a hotel claiming a 4-star standard.Outdated and poorly maintained room: damaged walls, visible impacts, and humidity stains on the bathroom ceiling, giving a clear impression of neglect and lack of maintenance.What shocked us the most was the complete lack of concern from the staff, who never seriously attempted to solve the problems or offered any form of compensation.You do not book a 4-star hotel to experience this level of discomfort and indifference. For the same price, there are many far better and more professional hotels in Barcelona.We definitely won’t return and strongly advise travelers to choose another hotel.   Room for improvement

  Room was on the small side. No bathrobe or slippers provided on arrival which there should have been.Room was too warm. We couldn't sleep. Room was advertised as having air conditioning but this wasn't true, there's only air conditioning in summer months.
