  The area the hostel is in is great! Overall it’s clean and secure. But it’s one of those places that charges extra for every little thing! Towels sure, luggage storage is a bit stingy, but BLANKETS!! In what world is a blanket not part of booking a bed?! The lockers next to the bed are very practical, as is the individual light and plug but also very noisy so anyone checking out early will wake you up. And the bathroom (1 toilet and shower en-suite to share between 8 people) really isn’t enough, if there are other toilets on the floors the rooms are on I wasn’t told. Whoever your marketing person is is very good though!

  Unfair charges and terrible experience – never again

  I almost never write reviews, but my experience at Sun & Moon Hostel in Barcelona was so bad that I feel I have to warn others.From the moment we arrived, the place felt disorganized and uncaring. The staff were indifferent at best and downright rude at worst, any question we asked felt like we were bothering them. The common areas and our room were not very clean, the bathrooms smelled, and it all felt poorly maintained rather than “budget but basic.” The walls are paper thin, so you hear doors slamming, people in the hallway, and noise from the street almost all night. Sleeping was basically impossible.The worst part, though, was the money issue: we were suddenly hit with a 225€ “noise complaint penalty”. We were never shown any proof of a complaint, never received a proper warning, and never got any clear explanation or documentation despite repeatedly asking. It felt like money taken from us for nothing, and there was no willingness from the staff to talk it through or resolve it fairly.Between the unfriendly attitude, the noise, the lack of cleanliness, and the completely unfair 225€ charge, I would strongly recommend staying somewhere else in Barcelona. Even for a budget hostel, this was absolutely not worth it.

  The worst hostel in Barcelona

  Where do I even begin.I booked the room for a one night stay before an early rise the following morning.The room was sweltering (Room 505). Turns out the staff had left the heat setting on their AC (according to front desk the following morning). Myself and other guests asked if they could do something about the heat and nothing could be done.I tried to sleep, but couldn’t. Then at about 3am - the hostel staff and two very aggressive / drunk guests bust through our door and started a screaming match. The guests seemed irate about the heat. The hostel staff was threatening the guests / telling them he would put false charges on their cards and kick them out / saying that “they had broken the AC”; they hadn’t. I have since tried to seek remuneration through all normal avenues. They have tried to ignore me + have since (somehow) cancelled my booking officially through the Hostelworld portal, so that I’m unable to leave a review. I am now seeking legal action to get a refund (because they can’t get away with this kind of behaviour and Hostelworld shouldn’t be aiding them as they are).

  Dirty matresses, thin wals and bad water

  We were on a schooltrip, the first thing we noticed when entering the room was a strong smell. We also had a matress with black and brown stains on the protection sheet, when we pulled back the sheet we saw that the corner of the matress was brown and smelled gross. We got a new matress in the end, which was nice, but we also noticed hairs in the blankets and towels. The cleaning was not good, many of the rooms had to ask for toiletpaper and hand soap. There was also no toiletbrushes. The breakfast consist of cakes and sweet bread, so to be full we had to go out to eat. The walls were so thin that we could hear the conversations in the next room. The staff also just walked straight into the rooms on multiple occations and started cleaning, even when we were in the rooms. The water tasted and smelled strongly of chlorine, after the showers we had to air out the room. The showers were also dirty and has leftover hair from previous gests.
