Facility

7 suites and 159 double rooms are located on 10 storeys and can be reached by lift. Guests are warmly welcomed by multilingual staff (English, German, French) at the 24-hour reception desk in the lobby. Check-in/check-out service is available round the clock. Amenities include a baggage storage service, a safe and a currency exchange service. Wireless internet access is provided in public areas. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel has a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities. There are a number of shops as well. A garden provides extra space for rest and relaxation in the open air. Additional amenities include a TV room, a playroom and a library. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage or in the car park. As a special feature, bathrooms are also stocked with cosmetic products and a selection of towels. Guests can also book wheelchair-friendly rooms with wheelchair-accessible bathrooms. The indoor and outdoor pools are ideal for exercise as well as relaxation. A terrace with sun loungers and parasols is available. Refreshing drinks are served at the poolside snack bar.     Great stay , great hotel.

    The hotel is in a good position, there is a metro station right outside giving good access to the city, the hotel is modern and clean. Some rooms have fantastic city views. Breakfast was good with a selection of food and drinks. Room service was excellent with clean bedding every day. There is nothing not to dislike about this hotel. It is modern, clean and comfortable and located in good area of the city.

    I gave a five because our overall experience was good. Check in was smooth and room was available to leave our luggage at 12. Room was on the fifth floor. No issues. Recently renovated. Comfy bed. Excellent shower. Didn’t opt for breakfast so can’t comment. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is not central but if you turn left and walk for about 15mins you hit the beach and can then walk the promenade into the main part of the city. If you want a good value hotel and don’t mind the walk or hopping on the metro then this would suit your needs. We got the bus from the airport but it was about a 40min walk from the city centre to the hotel. Taxi next time! We booked a taxi via the hotel to the airport which was around €37. Tourist bus pass was very useful and allowed you to rest your feet whilst seeing other parts of the city. Hop on and off between routes. Fabulous city that kept us busy for the three days we were there.     Lovely hotel and very friendly staff. However be very aware of what they charge you for. My wife and I were asked to pay a deposit of 100 euros to cover city taxes and use of mini bar when we checked in for 3 nights. On check out we were told that we would be refunded any amount due which wasn’t used. My calculations were that we would probably get around 40 euros back. In fact we were charged an extra 37 euros for city taxes again which came out of my account after we got home. I have tried several emails to the hotel and have had no explanation for this. I have now put this down to a bad experience and will learn in future Front desk B, at Hotel Barcelona Universal, responded to this review Thank you for your feedback and for highlighting the friendliness of our staff.We would like to clarify how our billing system works to help clear up this misunderstanding. Upon check-in, we do not take a deposit or charge your account; instead, we request a temporary hold (pre-authorization) of €100. This amount is kept on standby by your bank to cover any potential extras and the mandatory city tax.At check-out, this full hold is automatically released from our side, and only the actual costs incurred (such as the city tax) are charged.     A great base for exploring Barcelona!

    We had a lovely stay at Hotel Barcelona Universal. It was a great base for exploring the city. Hotel: Check-in was smooth, with an online process where you scan passports and enter details. This is worth doing in advance to save time. Reception staff were friendly and attentive, and the hotel was clean throughout. The rooftop pool offers beautiful 360° views, including the Sagrada Família and Montjuic, with plenty of loungers. However, the pool was far too cold during our stay - more like an ice bath! I imagine it gets quite busy in summer.Room:One of the comfiest (and biggest!) beds we’ve ever slept in. There was some outside noise due to the busy road, but being on the 7th floor meant it didn’t disturb our sleep. The minibar is chargeable, but the fridge was handy for storing water. Plenty of storage space and a safe included. The TV had one British channel, but we didn’t spend much time watching anyway! The bathroom could do with a refurbishment - the shower temperature fluctuated a lot. Housekeeping was excellent, with the room cleaned daily to a high standard.Location:Set on a busy road, but very convenient. There’s a McDonald’s across the street, along with plenty of restaurants and supermarkets nearby. It’s on the edge of El Raval, which has a reputation for being less safe, but we had no issues at all - even walking through at 11pm felt completely fine. The metro station is right outside with two lines connecting to all major areas. Many sights are also within a 30-minute walk.Food:We only had breakfast, so can’t fully comment on dining overall. Unfortunately, it didn’t impress us. There were limited hot options, and some items like the bread and ham didn’t taste fresh. That said, the restaurant staff were very attentive and quick to clear plates.Overall, a lovely stay here! Comfortable, convenient and a good place to rest after a day in the city.

    Next to the Paralel metro station and short walk to Las Ramblas this is a great hotel. Check in was seamless, rooms are large, well decorated and comfortable.
