    ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BOOK HERE

    rating01 Nov 2025

Under no circumstances should you book this hotel. The staff particularly the red haired lady on reception are unhelpful at best. The room was ok but the whole hotel smelled of fish all the time. We were staying on the 5th floor and one evening going for dinner the lift got stuck and we were trapped in there for an hour, reception came to us once and said the engineer had been called and we would be updated. Nothing at all happened until the engineer arrived. My wife was panicking and very upset and the receptionist couldn’t have cared less. She said she couldn’t leave reception but every time we went through she was on her phone or hiding out the back. The location is good but that’s it. Avoid

Avoid at All Costs – The Worst Hotel Experience of My Life

    rating10 Aug 2025

Avoid at All Costs – The Worst Hotel Experience of My LifeI stayed at Hotel May Ramblas from 5–11 August 2025 and this was, without question, the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. I rarely leave reviews this harsh, but travellers deserve to be warned. The problems started immediately. Our first night was spent in an unbearably hot room with no air conditioning. We barely slept due to the heat. The following day we were moved to two nicer rooms, but we were never told these were temporary. On the second morning, with no prior warning, one of my friends was stopped as he left and told he had to move rooms immediately. Another was woken up by staff knocking at the door and ordered to leave right then. I had to rush back from outside in fear that my belongings would be thrown out. This completely ruined our morning plans and caused unnecessary stress. We were moved into a cramped three-person room with a broken sofa bed that sloped and sagged so badly it was worse than sleeping in a hammock. There was no fridge, and the air conditioning was weak at best. When we tried to address these issues, the staff were unresponsive, dismissive, and at times outright rude. I sent a detailed email of complaint on 7 August — they never replied. I then personally asked for the official complaint form, which they tried to claim did not exist, and only gave me one after I insisted repeatedly. Even then, they stalled, avoided giving answers, and kept telling us “the manager is not available” for three days straight. The low point came at check-out on 11 August. I asked more than ten times to speak to a manager and was ignored. The receptionist refused to contact anyone senior, refused to give me her name, and laughed and smiled at me in a mocking, almost sadistic way while I explained how terrible our stay had been. I have travelled extensively, and I have never encountered such unprofessional, degrading customer service in my life.Summary: • First night: no AC, couldn’t sleep. • Sudden forced room change with no notice, waking a guest up. • Broken sofa bed, no fridge, poor AC. • Rude and dismissive staff, zero accountability. • Manager “never available” for entire stay. • Mocked and laughed at when raising serious complaints.I have filed an official complaint with the Agència Catalana del Consum (Claim No. 2025/O/05067) and will be pursuing a refund. If you value your money, comfort, or basic respect as a guest — do not stay here. There are many hotels in Barcelona, and this is not one of them you should trust.

Poor costumer service no air conditioning

    rating24 Oct 2024

The air conditioner in my room was not cooling as effectively as the one in my friend's room at the same hotel. I reported this to the front desk staff, who made an inadequate attempt to resolve the issue by merely turning the air conditioner off and then on again. They provided unsatisfactory explanations, suggesting that the unit needed more time to cool despite it already being operational for several hours. I requested a room change, but was informed that no rooms were available, without any apparent effort to verify availability or address our concerns. Upon asking to speak with a manager, the staff member laughed and offered only an email address, claiming the manager was not present, and then failed to return with the email. Consequently, the room remained uncomfortably warm, necessitating the use of an open window and a personal handheld fan throughout the night to maintain some level of comfort. The customer service was subpar. The central location is the only thing the hotel has going for itself.

Very disappointed. Definitely would not stay again. Totally great staff, however.

    rating15 Aug 2024

First of all: the staff here are wonderful. Really nice, kind, attentive, helpful. You could not ask for more. In particular, Manuel was superb, helping sort out various requests. I was super impressed. He’s great.But…..That’s all for the good news. Apart from the staff I was super-disappointed with May Ramblas. Indeed disappointment verging into anger. May Ramblas is advertised as a three-star hotel. In my view it is not a three-star hotel. It’s a one-star hotel. It’s almost of dormitory standard. Frankly I felt I had been misled by this. I booked two ‘small doubles’ on the website. I specifically asked for rooms on the same floor because I was with my timid mother-in-law who wanted to be close by. The hotel confirmed I’d have rooms on the same floor. But when I arrived the rooms were on different floors. And they were very small. OK, that’s fair enough – they are, after all, described as ‘small’ though ‘tiny; would be more accurate. But the rooms were also a bit tatty and super-basic. No fridge and no kettle. Stained bed cover. Battered chair with wonky legs. There had been a door in the shower, obviously, as parts of it remained. But it had not been replaced; a curtain put up instead. That’s not a 3-star approach. Bathroom door battered and hard to shut. Soaps provided, but clearly the cheapest soaps possible. The next morning Manuel helped me move to a bigger room. This only cost 10 euros more (it had not shown up on booking.com, or I’d have taken it). And here again he was super helpful. He did find us two bigger rooms and booked us into them. But later it turned out these rooms were on different floors, so my mother-in-law preferred to stay in the smaller room, since my new room was on that same floor. So I had to cancel the second double room. This was quite inconvenient and not so easy for Manuel to do. But he did it. He also found a kettle (the hotel keeps a small supply of these) which my mother-in-law very much wanted. He really is a superstar. My new room was indeed bigger; I was totally satisfied with the size. But again, it was basic. A couple of the light fittings did not work, the towels were super-thin, super-cheap quality. And no fridge, no kettle. Now the description of the hotel on booking.com does not list kettle or fridge. So there was *no* deception there, not at all. But those items have been present in every other three-star hotel I’ve stayed at in Spain. I’d simply expected them (and it was my error not to read the May Ramblas description with care). The hotel also had zero flexibility with late check out. Now that’s their business decision and I certainly understand it. But the point is, this is absolutely not three-star standard. I understand Barcelona is an expensive city, especially in August. But this was just wildly overpriced for what it was.I don’t like to complain. I think this is the first negative review I’ve left. Businesses are people’s livelihoods and so if a venue is just a bit mediocre, I do not leave a review. I have no time for over-privileged customers who complain about trivial stuff. I’m easygoing. But I had to leave this critical review because I (and my partner, every bit as much) was super-disappointed with this hotel. I cannot recommend it to anyone – not unless you can get a room there at hostel/one-star prices.

    T E R R I B L E - Don't waste your money!

    rating04 Oct 2023

We had a terrible experience at Hotel May Ramblas. We arrived with 2 children from a long overseas flight to finally get into our room and the AC was not working (Barcelona in August is very hot, around 34 degrees). We asked for assistance in either fixing the AC or moving rooms, but they did not have another family room to move us to. They said they would try to fix it. The first night no one slept as it was too hot. The second night, the same. So now we are on day 3 of our holiday and no one has slept. I asked to speak to the manager but apparently the manager does not have a phone (not surprised as it would be ringing off the hook with complaints). I was given an email address which I wrote to and unsurprisingly not reply. I wrote a 2nd email and again no reply. When we checked out the receptionist assured us the manger would do the right thing and compensate us. This of course never happened. 2 months on and I still have not received any compensation let alone an apology for the horrible service and experience we had. I've stayed in Barcelona many times and would highly recommend to keep looking and not book May Ramblas. there are so many wonderful places to stay with genuinely kind staff. May Ramblas is not one of them.
