I had booked a three-night stay. When I returned to the hotel on the second day, my room card key wasn’t working. Upon asking, I was told I had to switch rooms due to overbooking. I had locked my valuables in the room’s locker using my own lock, but the staff had broken the lock and removed my belongings.I was completely shocked by this. When I asked why I had to change rooms, they only responded by saying “because of overbooking.” I was forced to switch rooms and was offered free breakfast as compensation. My original room was a 6-bed dormitory, but the new room was an 8-bed dormitory, located next to a noisy common area. It was the hotel’s fault for overbooking, and they likely chose to make me, probably because I’m Asian, switch rooms as a solution. When I wrote a review on the website, they responded with false claims such as “We explained everything at check-in” and “You don’t speak English, so communication was difficult.” (While my English isn’t perfect, I can understand it to a reasonable degree. If I couldn’t understand English, I wouldn’t have understood the offer of free breakfast as compensation for the room change.)I believe the best thing to do is to avoid staying at hotels like this one.

Private room door left open & wallet missing

    rating24 Jun 2024

On the last day of our recent stay at the Central House Barcelona Gracia, my friend and I returned to the hostel in the evening to discover the DOOR OF OUR PRIVATE ROOM OPEN and my WALLET with all my cash (900 EUR) MISSING from the backpack where I had left it in the morning (there were no lockers in the room as was shown on the pics when I booked it).Upon discovering this, I immediately notified the receptionist and requested to review the security footage, as there was a camera positioned above our room. I was first told that only the manager had access to the footage and after waiting for a few hours I was informed that the footage can't be seen without me filing a police report. Manager didn't appear and I went to the police station where I registered the case for the investigation. Despite promises from the evening and night shift receptionists to assure the presence of the manager next morning, the morning shift receptionist was unaware of the situation, making me explain and insist once again. Eventually, I managed to speak to the manager on the phone, who assured me that the issue would be addressed. The manager escalated the case to their central office and one week later she messaged me to say that according to the footage only the housekeeping staff had entered our room, which means that the theft could not have occurred in the hostel! They acknowledged that the ROOM DOOR WAS LEFT OPEN BY MISTAKE and the best they could do is offer me a discount on my stay… (which I never received).
The hostel manager also wrote to me that they would take legal action if I were to post a negative review in which I accuse their staff, as this would be considered a crime against honor. I would like to clarify that I am not accusing anyone of committing a crime, but expressing my dissatisfaction with the situation, as I am merely left with the manager's word that the only people entered the room are their housekeeping staff to whom the management has full trust and who I cannot blame for the missing money. They KEEP IGNORING my emails asking to provide the evidence of the investigation and measures taken in this regard.

    Good value especially for location

    rating17 May 2024

I don't have a lot of exposure to hostels but this place really exceeded my expectations. It's not a 5 star resort, but going into it knowing it's a fairly low cost hostel, I really can't fault the place which is why I'm giving it 5 stars. The location is amazing, staff were always on site and pleasant, the bed and linens were basic but offered a comfortable sleep and the rooftop terrace was quite beautiful! There was also laundry on-site which was a bonus!

    Excellent location

    rating08 Apr 2024

We had a decent stay here. The service was excellent, and the rooms were good with ample storage. They were just a complete sauna at night. The AC is locked and doesn't run at night, so a full room is just a hot box. The women's showers were often out of order, and the lack of an air dryer for your hands in the bathrooms means everyone's walking around with wet hands. The kitchen being inaccessible in the morning before 8 am is kind of ridiculous, especially if you're leaving early and need to eat your own breakfast. The location is fantastic, close to the metro, and a lot of great places to eat.

    A great stay in Barcelona!

    rating26 Oct 2023

Firstly, the location of this hostel is excellently located just a block away from Diagonal Metro Station where three metro lines converge which made it really easy to travel with the metro. The dorm that I stayed in was a mixed one and was quite cramped, but what the heck - you only sleep there. Every bed had a curtain that could be closed to get some personal space which was great, so once getting into bed it felt quite spacious. The room had A/C and the bed had a small shelf with a bed lamp and an A/C-outlet.When I checked in the bed was already made which I believe is quite unusual at hostels and that made a good first impression. The common areas consisted of a quite large room for meeting new friends an an even bigger outdoor terrace. There is also a common kitchen and a fridge that can be used. This is probably the best cleaned hostel I've ever stayed at and the desk was manned 24/7 which is a great thing if you need help to order a taxi to the airport (I had an early flight so the Metro was not an option).Everyone at the desk speaks great English and were all very helpful. Karyna Andrienko, General Manager at The Central House Barcelona Gracia, responded to this review Hey!"It's great to hear that you had a wonderful experience at the hostel! It was a pleasure to have you here.
