  Tired hotel but right on the beach

  This hotel has a great position right on the beach. The staff are pleasant and helpful and the reception area is welcoming with a small bar and cafe.The pool area needs some TLC and softening with a bit of greenery, it's quite harsh and not a relaxing space. The bedroom required a full makeover. Whilst clean, ours was quite shabby with outdated decor and scuffed and marked furniture. Plenty of storage and the bathroom also needed a revamp, it was very old fashioned and tired. We did have a nice balcony with a great sea view. Breakfast was OK, plenty of choice.All in all, we got used to it but wouldn't stay here again. I thought it was expensive for what we experienced.   A little old fashioned but we'll worth a visit.

  Don't be put off with some review comments saying this hotel is old fashioned - some aspects are, however this is more than made up for in other ways.Firstly, the staff are wonderful. The front desk team are super friendly and efficient. The breakfast staff look after everyone and we'd recommend seating outside so you can see the beach and hear the waves. The cleaning staff keep the place clean and tidy.It's worth booking a room with a sea view and on the higher floors - floors 3-6 are ideal. We were allocated a room on the 1st floor but this isn't a good view and other guests using the sun deck can see in. The front desk team were happy to give us a new room on 5th floor the following day. Our balcony gave a perfect sea view, while our bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked extremely well - you could hardly hear it so sleeping at night was super comfortable. The in room safe was a decent size and was easy to use - maybe not big enough for a laptop, but plenty room for passports, money etc. There was plenty of closet space, much more than you might find in newer hotels. The mini bar was very inexpensive and good value.The bathroom is the area which looks old fashioned. However, the towels were clean, the shower and the bath worked fine and the area is well lit. The swimming pool is very small and although there are steps and a handrail on entry, the pool is quite deep and perhaps not best suited unless you are a strong swimmer.The hotel is right on the beach and has plenty bars and restaurants close by. There are several bus stops close by with frequent services into the town centre. Cadiz old town area is lovely - you can easily spend many hours wandering around the narrow streets, admiring the many buildings and statues. Be sure to visit the Central Market!   Poor food, loud music and dismissive staff

  Location is on the beach. First impression was good, room ok. Went to breakfast and had to wait in a que of 10-15 other guests to be seated despite there being 20+ tables empty, we walked out and got a breakfast at a cafe near by. Then on Saturday night we booked a table in the restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Everything started well. I ordered tenderloin steak ( medium done). The steak arrived and was more 'rare' then 'medium' but I started to eat it. The 2nd and 3rd slice of steak was all fat and Grissel. I politely complained and was offered another steak. When the second meal arrived it was the same steak but dressed up differently. I told the manager I didn't want it and didn't want anything else to eat. From that moment on the manager's attitude completely changed and suddenly presented us with the bill before we had finished our wine and water, they couldn't wait to get rid of us.We went back to the room, there was a stage set up just below our room. Very loud music was playing from 7pm, this was not a problem because we thought the music would finish at midnight but unfortunately it did not finish until 2am. When we complained to the reception they were very dismissive telling us it was a carnival. We pointed out that it would of been nice to have warned us in the weeks leading up to the booking in date and offered us a room further away from the stage because they would have been aware of the date of the carnival well in advance.The night before we sampled a couple of cafes/restaurants near the hotel. We found the attitude of the staff to be appalling, no interaction, no smile but quick to take your money. The food was poor too.All in all a very expensive weekend break including a pint of San Miguel beer in the hotel that cost €5.50 nearly twice as much as in bars on the street outside. I appreciate hotel booze is always more expensive but this was a rip off We found Cadiz to be disappointing although the open top bus was very good.My recommendation would be to book a hotel in the old town of Cadiz. As neither of the two options was satisfactory, both dishes were ultimately removed from the bill.Regarding the noise, during the dates of your stay there was a Carnival programme organised by the City Council in the vicinity of the hotel. The concert was a one-off event that may have exceptionally resulted in a higher level of noise than usual.We are also sorry that the value for money of certain services did not meet your expectations.   Excellent Hotel - beautifully situated

  Great location overlooking Playa Victoria beach. Close to shops, cheap public transport and many restaurants to suit all tastes. Breakfast was varied and good but busy as hotel was full. Staff coped admirably. Many other reviews have commented that the hotel is due for a refresh. Certainly some areas of the hotel and some parts of the rooms have “seen better days”. However the hotel and rooms are kept scrupulously clean. The maid service is outstanding. The hotel staff are friendly and attentive. Other reviews have complained about the WiFi but despite the reception telling us our room had a poor signal the WiFi was very fast (at least 100 Mbps download) and strong. Other reviews have commented on lack of sun loungers around the pool. Despite the hotel being full we did not have too many problems. However the poor state of the loungers (sagging, stains on the material) is really inexcusable. Please buy some new loungers and a bigger door knob for the door directly accessing the beach - it’s really difficult to open.
