    Very very disappointed.

    rating12 Apr 2025

Well it was a celebration of our Anniversary as we were coming back from the picos de Europa I was exiting to try this iconic SPA.Thinking ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ hotel should be good enough.. but I’m afraid realistically speaking travelling around the world this place doesn’t meet the speciation of a four star hotel.I understand is a country stay but the SPA,trying others is nothing to get excited about.Very basic,my husband paid the circuit included £4 for a polisher hat.My dressing gown presented in a closed plastic bag was full of hols on one of the arms!! I was Shock!!I got an apology when I ask them about the standards of the hotel. The room full of stains on the wall (I don’t understand why they can’t have some basic standards. BALNEARIO LA HERMIDA, Director General at Hotel Balneario La Hermida, responded to this review Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on your Anniversary celebration and your experience at our iconic SPA.We sincerely regret that your stay did not meet the expectations you have from a four-star hotel, especially considering your travels around the world. We understand your disappointment regarding the SPA facilities and the basic nature you perceived. We also apologize for the additional charge for the polisher hat during the circuit. We are particularly concerned to hear about the holes in your dressing gown. This is certainly not the standard we aim for, and we apologize for the shock and inconvenience this caused.Regarding the stains on the walls in your room, we are truly sorry that our basic standards were not met in this instance. We are currently in the process of refurbishing our rooms and facilities to address these types of issues and improve the overall guest experience. We appreciate your honest feedback as it helps us identify areas where we need to focus our efforts to improve. We hope that you might consider visiting us again in the future after our renovations are complete, so we can provide you with a much-improved experience that aligns with your expectations.

    Terrible hotel

    rating11 Jun 2023

This hotel is awful. Overpriced for what you get. The hotel has an "Overlook Hotel" atmosphere. The rooms have an extremely strange smell. The rooms have very old worn down ugly furniture, the bathroom is in poor condition as some of the tiles are cracked and moldy, and don't look very clean. The rooms do not have a bathtub. Flies routinely land on your food and the food is that is available is not worthwhile, or appetizing. The staff is not very hospitable and you can't even get an espresso, when you take into account that this is Spain, an espresso is the type of coffee that is routinely served everywhere. The only thing the hotel has going for it is the scenery, which faces beautiful mountains. That said I expected Jack Nicholson to come out any minute with an ax. If you want to use the "spa" which is basically a jaccuzzi, you must make an an appointment. Even that is not available past 6:00 PM, which completely defeats the purpose if you decide to go out hiking and just want a warm soak after you get back. Spend your money elsewhere.

Good stay but definitely not a four star

    rating25 Apr 2022

I stayed in this hotel one night ago with the expectation of staying in a four star hotel as rated in your booking.com listing. The location of the hotel is spectacular with scenic views of the mountains. The building itself is lovely and spending time in the spa area was also very relaxing. The hotel is rated as a four star and their prices are a reflection of that rating. However, this hotel is hardly a three star mainly because of the rundown state of the furnishings and lack of cleanliness in the room and spa area. In the room there was a broken frame and visibly damaged table. In the bathroom there was a broken glass shelf and there was grime in every bottom corner of the bath and shower. Some of the large glass panes in the spa were clean while others were encrusted with deposits to the point that you could not see through them and made them look grimy and dirty.I don't believe that this hotel in its current state should be rated any higher than 2.5 or 3 stars and the hotel prices should also be adjusted to such reality. Not doing so would be a misrepresentation of this hotel to patrons that make a booking at this hotel.I informed the receptionist about all of this and even left my email hoping that the manager would contact me immediately. I was disappointed that they didn't.

    Charming and a bit tired

    rating05 Jul 2021

Beautiful location, spacious rooms, great breakfirst, wonderfull spa, charming in an old-fashioned way, but…- The hotel feels outdated and “tired” in terms of maintenance and employees- The restaurant had good moments, but was below average compared to the many great restaurants in Spain- The outside pool was closed, which was a big disapointment travelling with kids (children are welcome in the spa, but they of course cannot play arround as kids do)- We received very little help to arrange tours, finding another pool etc. In general the most commen answer to requests in the reception was “no” and the service and kindness was not as we have experienced in the rest of Northen Spain- Location is gorgeous with mountain views but not practical, since it is in the boundary to Picos de Europa, so expect 30-45 minutes driving to reach the cable car and best trailsBook it, if you appreciate a historic feeling in a hotel. Picos de Europa is by the way amazing and we had some wonderfull days with hiking, canyoning and food.

Beautiful historic hotel in gorgeous setting

    rating22 May 2019

This is a truly beautiful historic hotel that was remodeled in the early 2000s to add all of the modern touches you see today. The rooms and bathrooms are large. Ours had large windows that opened up to the incredible view of the gorge outside. Only suggestion for the rooms is that they upgrade the mattresses. Ours was super firm with squeaky springs. The restaurant is decent, and there are also a number of incredible restaurants just 15 minutes up the road in Potes. The spa was the best part. Being able to come back from hiking every day and spend an hour soaking in the huge spa pool, with strong jets to massage our aching muscles was sublime. One note of caution though...they allow children in the spa and we were unlucky to be stuck with a shrieking 3yo for three of the days we were there and parents that didn’t seem to understand that the spa is supposed to be a place for relaxation. I certainly understand why they allow children, but there should be some cutoff for age. Perhaps If they are not old enough to know how to swim, they should not be allowed in the spa. There is nothing less relaxing than a shrieking child. Luckily the spa is big enough with a number of different spaces that we were able to move around to avoid the loud child.
