    Just 3 nights here but felt at home very quickly! Lucy and Angel welcome you like family to their accommodation that they’ve so lovingly restored. Simple, clean and very comfy rooms, gorgeous gardens and large pool. This is one of the most honestly sustainable businesses I’ve seen snd it’s clear this is non negotiable for them!Rooms are very spacious with lovely balconies, easy to spend an hour soaking up the sumptuous colours of the garden. The village of Alajar is quiet, spotlessly clean and gives easy access to wonderful walking trails.Lucy and Angel want to create a real experience of the Aracena and do it beautifully- generous with information, time and support for you to have the best stay!The welcome is warm, you can just “be yourself” and if you want to soak up the wealth of knowledge of the area from Angel or enjoy Lucy’s fantastic cooking, you can - no pressure just come as you are, Posada San Marcos will take care of the rest!

    We stopped at 25 locations or so while walking the camino del Norte so far (including top properties, design hotels, casas rurales and hostals) and this "place" (not sure what to call it) was the worst we experienced. C/i took over 30 min. as there was only one person at front desk, room was noisy, dark and little inviting, bed was tiny and the most uncomfortable we ever slept in, the furnishing was dated and lightning did not even work properly. The worst aspect was having booked a room with a terrace, when in fact, the terrace truly looked horrible, with no views and ridiculous outside furniture (old, damaged and not comfortable). I understand Santillana is a touristic place but San Marcos was a dreadful tourist trap. Don't trust the pics on the web site. They really did not reflect the room and outside space we stayed in ! The only positive aspect was breakfast (nothing out of this world, just decent), but although it was included in our rate, one server pretended it wasn't so they even managed to ruin this moment !

    A friendly receptionist (Jorge) checks you in. The women in the bar were friendly and happy to chat. The hotel is clean, fresh and ready for the most demanding guest. In the rooms, crisp linens and a (pod) coffee maker for the morning.

    The hotel is situated near the main road about 5 minutes by foot from the center of the beautiful village of Santillana de Mar. Ask for a room on the back. The Zoo is a2 minute walk. The museum of Altamira is 5 minutes by car. The beaches are 6-8 km by car.Our room was on the small side because we had refused a “ king” size bed of 1,50 cm in room we reserved. This room with 2 beds was cheaper, however our request for some extra coffee cups was denied. A win win for San Marcos. The HVAC was on but was not working properly and only blew very cold air in the room. When a Spanish group arrived it was turned off completely.The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good,

    We came for one night and stay for two. In the second night we upgraded for a bigger room for just a couple of euros and that was well worth it. The spa ( hot swimming pool and jacuzzi ) is amazing for the kids with just few extra euros ( 8 per each kid). Breakfast is also worth the 7 euro extra per person.It’s a 5 minutes walk from city center and 1 minuet from a nice horse ride activity for the all family. A great choice while you are in town.
