  Comfort and luxury beside the sea

  I have stayed at Hotel Santemar 6 times over the past 3 years while taking solo trips to the area. Location is perfect as I enjoy swimming and this hotel is right beside the beaches of El Sardinero. There are many cafes and restaurants close by, as well as a supermarket. Hotel rooms and bathrooms are large and very tastefully decorated. Everything is spotlessly clean. The towels, bedding etc are top quality. Beds are super comfortable. There's a coffee machine and a fridge in each room, and very effective air conditioning.Hotel Santemar provides a safe and extremely comfortable stay in great surroundings. It continues to be my #1 place to stay!

  Nice hotel, near the beach, but room to improve

  The room was clean and well presented, although the décor is beginning to feel rather dated and could certainly benefit from some refurbishment.Breakfast was one of the highlights of our stay. There was an impressive variety of options, both continental and English, with a particularly good selection of fresh fruit. There was certainly no shortage of choice to start the day.The check-out, however, was quite another matter. There was no facility simply to leave the RFID room cards, so we were required to queue at reception in order to hand them back. When I questioned this rather unusual arrangement, I was simply told, in effect, that “this is how it is”. When I tried to explain my surprise and respond, I was actually told to be quiet and listen.Being told to “be quiet and listen” by a member of hotel reception is hardly what one expects at the end of a stay, and certainly not the sort of farewell one would associate with good hospitality. I found the whole exchange unnecessarily rude and dismissive. A simple explanation and a little courtesy would have been more than sufficient.It is a pity, as the hotel has a very good location. The beach is within easy reach, with wonderfully clear water and very pleasant sea temperatures, and the hotel is also conveniently situated for the ferry port to Portsmouth.Overall, the Santemar has some very good qualities, particularly its location and excellent breakfast. The rather old-fashioned décor is forgivable; an old-fashioned approach to customer service is somewhat less so. One would hope that a hotel of this standard could manage a simple check-out without making a departing guest feel that asking a perfectly reasonable question is somehow an inconvenience.

  AN EXCEPTIONALLY WELL RUN HOTEL IN SARDINERO SANTANDER.

  We have stayed in this hotel many times. The staff as always on reception are excellent, such great service. The secure hotel car park and lots of room is a bonus, as so convenient and easy to get in and out of. Our bedroom was spotless, quiet and the beds are so very comfy. We will stay in this great hotel in the Spring. It is just off the prom in Sardinero which lots of small bars/cafes/with good food, in the hotel street. There are some great walks from the hotel as well. We tend to leave the car in the carpark and use the every few minutes and cheap buses into the centre, so convenient and silly not to!!   Not felt welcome in the restaurant.

  The hotel was very welcoming and comfortable.We went for a drink in the bar and to look at the evening menu. We were booked in as half board.As soon as we mentioned this in the bar we were told, by who I presume, was the restaurant manager, that we had to choose from a very different menu. The menu we were given was obviously a very small choice of food and mainly fish, no vegetarian option. When my husband offered to pay the extra for the a la carte menu she said we couldn't but after standing his ground she eventually agreed I could choose from the main menu, which we thought we would be doing anyway. The female who was I presume in charge was not at all welcoming.We won't be staying here again when there is more choice of accommodation in the town.   Fantastic hotel! Bedroom very clean, comfortable bed and soft pillows. Great shower room. Hotel is in El Sardineo area so close to bars, beaches which are wonderful. The breakfast was amazing.
