Stay here if craving for drepression

    rating10 May 2024

This is the worst hotel of at least 60 where I have stayed for work travel in Spain. I was coming from another Soho “Boutique” in Málaga. Nothing boutique but their names. Never again with this chain. My job gives me a generous cap to choose the hotel where I want to stay. At Itaca they went to town with photo edition on their website, I chose the hotel for price, photos and location. At 189 euros a night, I was sure I was getting what the pictures showed. I have now learned to go the guest reviews and not only the photos. I never bother to review but this one deserves it. Bleak, depressing room, tacky bathroom so narrow you had to sit in the toilet with your legs completely spread open and your knees still hard pressed against the wall. The air conditioning so weak I told front desk it was broken, then I could sense it cooling a bit after 10 hours. What did not work was my mini fridge, I had to buy ice at the shop every day. The shower, the big one overhead was not working, only the telescopic one but it was broken. The breakfast was terrible, I only had it on two days and then stopped because it was so lousy it was a bad start to the day. They serve day-old bread and pastries and industrial dehydrated egg with plastic bacon. This hotel is a steal (pun) It is like a glorified high-end super poor backpacker hostel where you would go if you want to feel sad.Anything good about it? The bed and pillows. Well, they should give you something for 189 euros. Atención al cliente, Ventas at Hotel Itaca Colon By Soho Boutique, responded to this review Dear Pedropy, Thank you for choosing us. I found this the worst, most dangerous hotel I have ever stayed in

    rating19 Apr 2022

I found that the conditions of the wiring/sockets in the room initially booked, as well as the room we were moved to were extremely dangerous. I was electrocuted by the mains socket in the original room as the socket fell out of the wall when I touched the plug causing me to be electrocuted by the back of the socket and in a lot of pain. My partner insisted on being moved rooms because I was unhappy for our toddler to be in a dangerous room. The socket also came out of the wall in the second room that we were moved to. There was a third socket in the bathroom, which was away from the wall (all of which i have photographic evidence of). My partner complained to the hotel and asked for a 'hoja de reclamaciones' form (complaints sheet) and received a response saying that excessive force must have been used. This is completely untrue. I touched the first plug and it fell out of the wall with the socket. It should not be possible for the socket to come out with the plug, it hasn't happened in any other building we have stayed in, it doesn't explain why a third socket was away from the wall in the bathroom or why there appeared to be nothing holding the sockets in. I have serious concerns that the failure to acknowledge that the conditions were dangerous could lead to someone being killed. We had a toddler in the room. I feel that the response claiming I had used too much force is a worrying attempt to deflect responsibility and I am not confident the rooms will be made safe with such an attitude. In addition to this major issue/concern the furnishings looked old, there was significant dust under the bed and the WiFi wasn't working (a staff member claimed to be changing the router at around 9.30 in the evening). I have attached 4 photos to substantiate my comments, but we have more.

    CRAMPED BATHROOM

    rating13 Mar 2022

I was looking for inexpensive and central accomodation and this came up first on the list. Location is very good, some ten minutes walk from the railway station and maybe twenty to the tourist area around the Mezquita. The overall impression is dark and a bit worn down. My room had an awkward position of bed and desk, maybe because it was at the end of the corridor. The bathroom was so narrow I had to move sideways in there. No water boiler for a morning coffee in bed, which I love. The reception guy was helpful and friendly when I needed to find out about some bus routes. Will probably look for some other place next time.

City Centre location & friendly staff

    rating30 Sept 2019

The hotel Itaca Colon is ideal for travellers who don't mind walking into the historic quarter of the city.It is in a quiet side street, just near to El Corte Inglés.We found free on the road parking quite easy nearby. The hotel is near to the central shops and is a 15 minute walk from the historic parts of the city. The room we had was 301 and has an ENORMOUS super king sized bed :)The bathroom was adequate with both a bath and a shower over....The air conditioning was excellent and the room was comfortable. The walls are thin as in many modern city hotels..... But for what we paid.... We were not bothered about the sounds from above. If you like good value for money then this hotel might suit you as it did us :)
