Location

This hotel is situated on the seafront, in the centre of a sandy beach. The commercial centre of Costa Brava, with its nightclubs, restaurants and bars, is about 150 m away. Enchanting sand and shingle beaches can be found in the vicinity of the hotel building. In addition, public transport connections as well as further entertainment venues can be found some 100-300 m from the hotel. It is 4 km to the centre of Playa d'Aro and 28 km to Costa Brava airport.

Facility

The hotel has 4 single rooms and 78 double rooms, which are located on 4 storeys and are reachable by 2 lifts. The reception desk is open round the clock. Amenities include a baggage storage service and a safe. Wireless internet access allows guests to stay connected while on holiday. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. Dining facilities include a café, a bar and a pub. Guests can enjoy the culinary delights of the non-smoking, air-conditioned restaurant, which provides high chairs for children. Refreshing drinks at the beach bar are a perfect way to enjoy warm weather. Catering options include bed and breakfast, half board and full board. A generous breakfast buffet guarantees a great start to the day. At lunch and dinner, guests can choose between a buffet, à la carte and a set menu.

    Not the end to my holiday I was expecting

    I'll start with the good. Lovely adult only area, rooftop pool with free-to-use Bali bedsBrilliant cocktails included in all-inclusiveClose to shops and beachLoads of sunbeds available at the main poolStaff were pleasant and helpfulEntertainment most evenings and games during the dayFood at a restaurant, always plenty of variety The hotel is dated in areas . the bathroom in particular. the room was comfortable enough with fridge, kettle and safe included. It was quite warm and stuffy and looked out to the back of the hotel and the back of another hotel . the room smelt of food cooking on several ocassions. There was no view from the balcony and the walls really are paper-thin so I could hear conversations from next door.I arrived at 11 am and my room wasnt available until 3;30pmOn my last evening the restaurant floor collapsed in one area , id purposfully chosen an evening flight home the next day to benefit from a full last day . From 9;30pm on Thursday evening everything changed. The poor staff were obviously in shock and doing their best to remain calm and carry on. The singer who had just begun was paused and we were asked to evacuate the bar . after a couple of hours we were told all was safe but it was a very uneasy night . The following morning everyone began getting transferred out of the hotel. I wasnt with Jet2 but i can say they were the most visable and helpful tour operator that were there.     Firstly , I would like to say the staff here are fantastic. Friendly and hardworking and we felt all enjoying their job. The food offering was good for breakfast and lunch whereas we found the evening meals a little lacklustre. We knew the hotel was dated when we booked but we had friends holidaying close by and we booked specifically to be close to them. We had 5 decent days at the hotel before the dining room floor partially collapsed on the Thursday evening. Everyone was ushered outside and poIice , fire service and ambulances attended. I am not going to lie to say this was scary was an understatement. We felt the reception team themselves weren't fully aware of what would be happening going forward and just reiterated the advise they were given. We were moved at 2.30am as I refused to remain here as we felt unsafe . Cannot fault jet2 rep who could see how anxious I was and did all she could to help. We moved to another resort which made it difficult to then complete plans we had made with our friends.Obviously for anyone in attendance at the hotel when this happened it has left its mark , however I would say that before this happened we were enjoying our stay . Very central and just off the beach. Rooftop pool just for adults was very relaxing. The main pool had masses of sunbeds and room around it and the food in the lunch time outdoor restaurant was fab. Good selection of branded drinks including cocktails.Would we stay here again ...Obviously because of what happened it would be a no. However if this had not happened we would of probably at least thought of returning if we ever returned to santa ponsa as the staff , most food and proximity to the beach etc was excellent. Hope the staff are all ok too as I'm sure this will have affected them greatly.     This i definitely know would have scored at least a 4 star review or even a 5,but based on our experience alone and the situation i only gave a poor score,dont be put off its only because we had only been there a few hours for the restaurant collapsed,we had to be evacuated to another zafiro hotel over an hor away in the middle of nowhere, not told to which hotel we were going to,had many issues during our week ,there were kids everywhere, we only got to stay at Rey Don jaime, it was my husbands 1st time to Santa ponsa, my 4th time which is why I suggested it,I was impressed by the hotel for the 1 night we were there,food was absolutely beautiful, it was a clean room and very pleasant staff its just a shame we never got to stay for more than 1 night of our 7 night stay,we will be back again most definitely, Hotel Manager, Owner at Zafiro Rey Don Jaime, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for sharing your experience with us.We’re delighted that you were impressed with our property during your brief visit and that you found our accommodations clean and comfortable.That said, we sincerely apologize for the disruption caused by the incident during your stay.     Amazing hotel and staff

    I have been coming to this hotel for 10years now. The hotel and staff are amazing, and nothing is to much trouble.I am disabled so I always have an adapted room . (Usually same floor every year) This helps ne immensely with my needs.The food is always spot on, never yet had a bad meal. The hotel is a 2 minute walk to the beach and town. Lots of amazing shops and vans and restaurants to be had. The beach is extremely accessible if you use a wheel chair or scooter. As it has wooden walkways to go along.. All in all the hotel, staff and location are the best.     Terrible health and safety. Take a non slip mat if you go or it is dangerous

    Terrible experience. No health and safety. No non slip mat in shower. Fell an ended up in hospital. 14 weeks of treatment and life changing scars. Spoke to people after the fall and they all said shower dangerous but they were using towel not to slip. Wish I gad known that.
