Charming little hotel, great for birders

    rating26 May 2025

A repurposed 18th C farm with a massive dovecote. Currently has 15 rooms, some of which are totally non accessible - stairs down to enter, stairs further down to bath, stairs up to "bedroom". Others are - if you can negotiate the 4-5 steps up from the large middle patio area. Eric, the host and co-owner is a joy - he'll do everything in his power to make your stay comfortable.Breakfast is included, but lacks in variety and appeal - boxed cereals, really crunchy toast and only whole milk when we were there. Coffee is individually made and quite good. But, better to bring your own breakfast items if you'd like more variety (the rooms do have fridges).Room was very comfortable, if somewhat dark even with all lights on. The soap and shampoo come in its teensy plastic packets, and I never got enough. Clothesline that work well available if you need to wash any clothes.Don't miss the dovecote! Or the many birds (and bats!) that fly over or call from nearby trees or meadows.

    May stay

    rating27 May 2022

Pros: The hotel I absolutely loved. Beautiful setting, comfortable spacious room with great bed, shower, fridge, windows with netting. The staff couldn't have been nicer, felt like they would genuinely do everything they could to help you. Lovely coffee and simple but v nice breakfast. Dovecote is v cool and lots of beatific art. Gorgeous area for walking around. Lovely courtyard and patio area at well as seating area and car parking. Cons: The pool is not in use. Restaurant closed. No bike hire. WiFi is terrible. Nightmare to get in and out of. A film crew staying who for the most part didn't affect us but sometimes annoying and dominating. With no restaurant and difficult getting into nearby places it made dinner difficult also not then set up to self cater. Had to keep going and asking to borrow plates cutlery and could only eat cold food for dinner in our room. No pool made much disappointment, felt a bit stuck either not much to do smd No Internet. No bikes.

    Check availability

We booked a package type holiday for the end of may. The staff were great but although advertised there was a restaurant it was not open. Chef had left the previous week apparently. No where for miles to buy food for lunch or dinner and no cooking facilities. Swimming pool had no water in it. Bike hire is not available. Crazy dirt track roads to get there. Breakfast was toast.

    A special historic place

    rating01 Apr 2021

Definitely worth a visit. We only stayed one night but found it very welcoming and very relaxing. Next time we will stay longer as there is a lot to do here and locally. We have a young family and found it very freeing. Our 1 year old likes to explore. The dovecote is unique. Our quadruple room had plenty of space and some very cool art, very comfortable Evening food was great and the chef took a lot of time to discuss options; kitchen is run as a separate business. Plenty of selection in the bar and again the breakfast was ideal for the setting. Everything is focused on relaxing and enjoying the space around you, just wish we had stayed longer.

An interesting place with a very narrow target audience.

This was a short notice break in the autumn but became the curate's egg, good in parts. This is a fabulous part of Spain for tranquility, birdwatching and getting away from it all. The accomodation here is not child, disabled or possibly elderly friendly. There are many steps balconies and dodgy floor coverings. However peace and quiet reigned all the time, the breakfast simple but adequate, a friendly and well stocked bar.The restaurant on site is seperate from the hotel business. It's a lottery if it opens or not, San ambrosio down the road was no better. OK this was at the end of the season, but we had real difficulty sitting down for a meal. Down the road in Barbate no kitchens opened until 8.30 so we raided Mercadonna. I havent visited a part of Spain where it is so difficult to eat something.
