  Amazing hotel! Highly recommend for families/ golf enthusiasts

  SUCH a wonderful hotel! Beautifully clean, cool, spacious and such kind and helpful staff! My sons and husband played golf (7 minutes by taxi, easily arranged by the reception desk) and loved the course. Beautiful pools open in September, masses of sun loungers, restaurant buffet for breakfast, lunch, dinner had a HUGE variety of food. A little walk into the pretty town, 10 mins, and to restaurants. We flew into Faro, organised a private transfer for 140 euros each way, which I'd highly recommend for ease and peace. We will certainly visit again!   How did it get those stars?

  Awful. Bed was damp, windows leaked, damp and mould. Don’t be fooled by photos. We had paid for 4 weeks and after 1 night wanted to go home! Lasted 2 weeks.They issued us with an electric blanket to dry the wet bed and a fan heater to warm the room. People were going to dinner in coats! I know we were there in the winter but that alone should mean they had the heating on. Overall the building was in need of an update, ceilings pouring with water, stains on the carpets etc. Food was mediocre at best. On the positive the staff were friendly and kind except for the manager who was always in a “meeting”.   I stayed in Hotel Fuerte El Rompido for a week in May on an all-inclusive basis booked with Saga.Chris, the Saga rep was friendly, helpful and very informative.The hotel is set in lovely grounds with plenty of places to sit outside some of which were quite secluded. There were plenty of sunbeds available although perhaps that is not the case in the peak season. There is a small supermarket nearby and plenty of pleasant walks.My room was large with a balcony with views onto the local countryside There were two double beds and I suspect it was used as a family room during the summer holiday period. The bed was comfortable and linen and towels were changed regularly by the very efficient housekeeping team. The room safe was 3 euros per day and was operated with the card used to enter the room. Air conditioning, which I used every day / night was effective.As an all-inclusive guest, I had to queue at the bar for drinks but rarely experienced any significant waiting times. In the restaurant the drinks service was very slow at times and I did notice that guests who were paying separately for their drinks received priority service. One guest at my table went to the nearby bar partway through her meal to get a drink to bring to the restaurant as no drinks had been offered. It appeared that the restaurant had insufficient staff to provide a good service at times.The food was variable but I nearly always found something I enjoyed. There was plenty of variety at breakfast including cereals, fresh fruit, cold meats, cheese and also hot items. At lunch and dinner there was a range of salads and hot dishes to choose from. I didn't find that food was always labelled clearly and it might be challenging for customers who have allergies / intolerances or are vegan / vegetarian. While not a fine dining experience, the food was acceptable although the weakest aspect of the hotel in my opinion.Overall I had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday and will be returning to the hotel next year.   Not luxurious, but really clean, relaxed and friendly. So much so that I've booked again for next year. Costa de la Luz is completely different from the other Costas, so laid back and beautiful.   Greeted by our Saga host, Chris, who was brilliant throughout. Totally ignored by the reception staff.Housekeeping was excellent, fresh towels and sheets whenever we wanted.Susana, Allesandro, Ioan and Emilio were very helpful.The all inclusive Saga package means you are given an armband on arrival and this blights you for the rest of your holiday. Paying customers (mainly Spanish) are given priority at all outlets.The canteen, it is NOT a restaurant, serves the same food every day. It is obviously limited by budget and does not attempt to achieve any level of quality. Meat is cooked as fast as possible resulting in a tough and sometimes undercooked result. My partner had two experiences where chicken and fish were still raw in the middle. Much of the fruit served was from cans which was so disappointing. I stopped having breakfast and lunch after 3 days and the last 5 days lived on chips and bread rolls.Main Bar opening hours despite being advertised as 13 hours, changed from 11am till midnight to 8pm till Midnight. We were sent to the Dos Faros bar where we were served for 1 day. After that we had to go to the pool bar where there were only 9 chairs.Sunbeds cannot be reserved unless you are Spanish.World Cup coverage was good until the first England game (Wednesday) when entertainment (a woman shouting into a microphone) was provided. We were allowed to watch one screen with Spanish commentary. When I asked why we couldn’t have English commentary as this was available in our room. I was told to go to my room. The following Saturday we were expecting entertainment but it was “Oh no Germany are playing”. On the evening of the Spanish game the main bar, where a big screen was, remained closed until 5 minutes before kick off. At this point they realised the big screen projector was not working.The hotel and local area is very clean and it is such a shame that Saga guests are treated so appallingly.
