The holiday apartments were built in 1901. The hotel has 2 suites, 20 single rooms and 146 double rooms, which are located on 3 storeys and are reachable by 2 lifts. The reception desk is open round the clock. Amenities include a safe, a currency exchange service and a drinks machine. Wireless internet access in public areas allows guests to stay connected. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel has a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. Wheelchair-accessible facilities are available. A fireplace creates a cosy atmosphere. A number of shops, including a supermarket, are great for shopping or just browsing. A garden provides extra space for rest and relaxation in the open air. Rooms

The freshwater pool complex includes indoor and outdoor pools, which are in part heated, as well as a children's swimming area.     Great first impression sadly didn’t last. Late arrival so didnt get to try food in restaurant but if the abysmal breakfast was anything to go by this was probably for the best. The barman was sullen and rude while serving our admittedly large group which doesnt make you feel welcome.Room was large and comfortable but waking up to cockroaches is never pleasant.     Grand old hotel offering slightly faded old world charm

    I'm writing this while in our room at the Reina Christina. So far so good!My wife and I love classic hotels and railway hotels, so this fits the bill perfectly. And the price is reasonable compared to a comparable hotel in the U.K.This is a bit of a faded charm to the place. But it's much better tha I expected from reading some of the reviews.On our first evening we had wine and carajillo (Spanish version of Irish coffee) at the hotel bar. The scene was convivial, and reminded me of the good old days when hotel bars had a bit of a social scene.Lunch and dinner at the restaurant is buffet style. We decided to book our 2nd night with breakfast since it was very reasonable to add it on the Globales website. Breakfast was very good and well presented with lots of choices.I think the Reina Christina has a lot to offer. There are really not that many hotels left like this one in the modern era, so I genuinely enjoy being here.If people are looking for something of an even higher standard they could try the the Rock hotel in Gibraltar. It is very well-rated hotel and also 4-star but it also goes for twice as much.     Just a couple of minor issues but otherwise great hotel

    We stayed for one night before boarding the ferry to Morocco. The room was clean and spacious. It had a small balcony with a bistro set and a great view of the port. Parking was good 10€ a day and the staff were friendly. There are no coffee making facilities in the room and no full length mirror.     The Overlook Hotel, Algeciras style...

    Try not to arrive here after dark. The entrance isn't signposted and when you do find it the gate is padlocked. Climbing over the wall and stumbling through the undergrowth in the general direction of what might be 'reception' is your only option. The motivation to succeed is high, otherwise a chibbing awaits should you be forced to wander the streets of downtown Algeciras in search of sanctuary.When you finally locate Reception you will find the welcome cold and the whole process inefficient and chaotic. They will also make you pay upfront; an unusual feature of a four star hotel.To be fair the grandeur had not faded as much as I had expected. It is a fine building with an interesting history. Can't help thinking, however, that Mr Henderson might have something to say about the way it presents itself.     We invited two friends to 'supposedly' have a nice stay. It was for only 1 night because we were taking the ferry the next day to Ceuta. We reserved a doubleroom. For one night...didn't need more than that and that's how we seemed to have been treated. We wanted the nice room shown on their website so that our guests can enjoy the whole flair. Well, the room they put us in was around the pool area. We wanted to be IN the hotel and not...around the pool. Walking around the pool area to the room was a mess. The pool tiles needed repair and looking to the sides...paper garbage mess! We opened the 'cube' room and were shocked. Hot..no A/C...small window...no mosquito screen..1 bed..bathroom..lamp. can't remember if there was another piece of furniture because we turned around and walked out. We checked our friends 'cube' and was a bit better. I went to the receptionist and the DRAMA began. The lady said..welllll..your room (cube) was not rennovated. That is why it's so empty...no pics on the walls..no deco. I said "seriously" and the room is still being given to the guest 🤷🏻‍♀️I mentioned that this is not what we reserved and will NOT take these rooms. She said, "we have no other rooms available". I told her that we had reserved at least 5 months before our visit. Because she had mentioned that there was a party in the house. DON'T CARE. we were not staying in that 'hot, stuffy' cube. It was May! I stayed in her presence and insisted a change of the two rooms. We were treated with arrogance and as if we were invisible too. She said that A/C is not offered in the month of May...WHAT! we have stayed in many 4-5 star hotels all over Spain in the hot months. That the A/C in the Spanish hotels are programmed to a certain temperature ...that we know. Like...please...don't try to pull the woll over my eyes...was'nt born yesterday. Well...1 1/2 hours passed and we asked for their Supervisor (in Spain...General Director). She said "he's not in the house". I called up a friend from the Spanish National Police for advice. She said "ask for the COMPLAINT FORM". We didn't know that it is a Spanish Law to have this form available or they'd have to deal 'on the spot' with the police. The hotel can be fined. We of course living in Germany didn't about know this so a guest can be pushed around. NOT ME! Good that we also have a home in Spain and we are getting to know quite a few 'good' helpful friends. So, Lordy be. Out of the clear blue sky..the receptionist came back from going to get the 'Complaint Form' but returned WITHOUT it and told us that WOW...the General Director turned up MIRACOUSLY and we got TWO rooms in the hotel...exactly what the doctor had ordered...literally my husband 😉. Comfy, atmosphere and AIR CONDITIONER was on!!! Huh. Another point..Don't reserve HP. This first time EVER (once in a while we have reserved HP..breakfast & dinner) and were NEVER put in the back room with the 'bus touries'. No offense against bus tours and put into one big room and buffets, that's known...but not what we ever expected..our first time. Not for our guests who had expected and us too to go into the nice diningroom...all dressed up..winding up in the back.😬 We felt like going up and coming back in the room in shorts and sneakers. For breakfast too. The lines...no way ever again and will not recommend this hotel.Moral of the story....STICK TO YOUR RIGHTS. No wonder why other guest have rated so low. It might be a historical hotel...but don't take any nonsence. Money is still not growing on trees.
