  Could have been so much better…

  We live in Malaga and decided on a short break to Zahara de Los Atunes and open to stay here based on the reviews and photographs of the room. Most of the photographs are representative of the hotel however what we found that let it down was the poor and unfriendly service from many of the staff with the exception of Jose who gave great service and always with a smile.The food was also very disappointing and as we ended up dining out in the evening on several occasions in the heart of Zahara de Los Atunes where many great restaurants can be found. The quality of the food services was mediocre and the tables on the terrace lacked any thought and was more like eating in a roadside cafe. There was basic tables with no table clothes, no light or candle and the whole area was dim, and not very inviting. That said, the position was great to watch the sunset and could have been made even better with just a little thought and attention to deal and service.Our room was extremely dark and we had to use the light in the main bedroom even during the daytime though we did like the room size which was a suite with easy access to the pool areas.We found it almost impossible to get a sun lounger at the smaller pool closest to our room as they were snatch up at first light but the beach is easily walkable and a beautiful beach it is too.We considered the sister hotel close to the old town but liked the look of this hotel for a quiet romantic getaway based in the photographs.We loved the area but not sure we’d rush back to this hotel.

  2nd time staying in El Cortijo and it was just as enjoyable as the last time. Lovely hotel, very chilled out atmosphere and very friendly staff. We will definitely be back!   Great Staying, amazing food and people and service.

  All was good, food, people, courtesy of the staff, cleaningness of the room. Only thing I would improve is the wifi, that was not working properly and it was self disconnecting pretty often.   This was our second stay. Lovely hotel. Clean and quiet. The restaurant is good with a varied choice of food and many local dishes. The WiFi is still poor and no daily supply of water in the rooms is annoying.   This hotel is far too expensive for what it offers and feels very outdated. The food was horrible, and unfortunately, the service was not much better.We were forced to book a minimum stay of four nights, but we were so disappointed that we decided to leave early. What surprised us most was that no one even bothered to ask why we were checking out before the end of our stay.The rooms were not properly clean and are in serious need of renovation. Considering the prices they charge, we expected a much higher standard.The pool area itself is nice, but the same frustrating issue occurs there: guests reserve sunbeds early in the day and then don’t show up until much later, leaving other guests unable to use them.Breakfast was particularly disappointing — we have honestly had better breakfasts at fast-food chains.Overall, the price simply does not match the quality, service or experience.
