    Budget 4 star Hotel

    rating14 Sept 2026

3 night stay for a visit to Sanlúcar. Hotel is clean, beds are reasonably comfortable. Staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is located outside the old city centre, a slow, easy 15 minute walk along the seafront into the town centre. A good location if you are looking for a beach holiday near to some decent restaurants on the sea front very close by. Breakfast is served in a large room or in the outside covered patio area. Food selection is ok, fried and scrambled eggs available. The pool area, is nice but overlooked by adjacent properties as are the balcony rooms facing the pool. Aircon in the hotel is ok.The hotel itself, is based on an elongated L shape; one side faces the pool area, other side looks onto the road. There are three floors, served by two lifts. Rooms on the second and third floor have been refurbished apparently. We booked a ‘Suite’; there are only two suite rooms in the hotel and are situated on the internal corner of the building, located on the first and second floor. We immediately rejected the suite on entering the room, horrible. These so called Suite rooms should be turned into utility areas for the hotel and not used as guest rooms.Reception staff moved us into a non balcony room for the first night, roadside view, then into a balcony room with a pool view the the last two nights.Rooms are very narrow, so space is limited. Wardrobe is not deep. There is a floor standing fridge, hopeless. Limited space in the room, easy to knock over the floor lamp when moving around the room. Bathroom small but functional. Shower has shampoo etc, Bathroom floor always gets wet after a shower due to the limited space and shower screen arrangement, rooms we stayed in, 2nd and 3rd floor had small ants in the bathroom, probably caused by the continual wet floor. There is a small bar area, situated at the side of the main reception, before you enter the terrace area. We did not see anybody use the bar area in the evening during our stay, not a thing of beauty. The hotel primarily serves the domestic Spanish market in our opinion, when we visited the hotel, reception advised us the hotel was full booked. Before making this review, my wife and I discussed our stay at the hotel; because we wanted to leave a fair and honest review. The hotel is 4 star quality in name and facilities. We would define the hotel as a budget 4 star hotel. The rooms are small, all woodwork and doors are laminated. There are no USB outlets in the rooms and limited power outlets, so,if you are ‘tech’ heavy the rooms will frustrate you. We did not use the pool area due to the enclosed area.We chose not to spend any time in the hotel other than sleeping and eating breakfast, which is unusual, for us; we just felt disconnected from the hotel during our stay.We had a great stay in Sanlúcar, arriving by bus from Jerez. The sunsets are amazing and Sanlúcar is a delightful place to visit; a must visit place for foodies. Our next visit to Sanlúcar will probably be in an apartment, not a hotel.

Perfect week at Hotel Macia Donana

    rating19 Jul 2026

Thank you to all the staff at Hotel Macia Donana, my family and I stayed for a week and it was perfect. Rooms immaculately clean, breakfast everything you would need, super selection and tasty, the bar and breakfast staff were simply amazing, nothing too much trouble. The pool area was pristine. Not forgetting the smooth booking at central reservation and the welcoming ladies at reception, always available to answer any queries. Would definitely stay again.Congratulations Spain Men’s Football World Champions ????

Great position but very disappointing hotel

    rating03 Jun 2026

We booked this hotel because of its position close to the restaurants and because it had parking. The lobby was impressive and the Receptionist helpful. We headed to our room which was a 'Junior Suite' with a tiny balcony overlooking the pool, it looked old fashioned slightly refurbed. The bathroom was very small with too much sanitary wear squeezed in. We headed out for a beer and lunch, relaxed at hotel, headed out to do some shopping later, about 5.30pm when temp was up to 36 deg, decided to eat at hotel as it was so hot.Firstly, bar was unattended and full of dirty glasses, plates, crumbs. Restaurant was closed! Very unhelpful Receptionist told us to ring a bell and a waiter would arrive and take our order. Didn't fancy that one bit. Headed out back to Baja de Guia.We were surprised at the excellent quality of the breakfast the next morning, but would rate it as the worst hotel we stayed out of the eight we stayed in on our trip.

    Seen better days

    rating01 Jul 2024

Good location. The hotel is not 4 star though. It may be by Spanish standards but anywhere else in the world it would be 2 star. Our bedroom was a standard room looking out over the front of the hotel. The room was old and tired with very old fashioned furniture. Small fridge just sat on the floor not built in. The bathroom was old looking too. Shower over a bath - very old fashioned! A few chips in the wash basin but worst of all a few horrible chips on the toilet seat. They were not new and seem to have been rubbed smooth - surely they could easily have replaced it. Photo below.Breakfast was ok - standard fare. Our biggest problem was the swimming pool was being used by non residents. A group of 5 turned up and took over 5 loungers ( there aren’t many anyway) and stayed for a few hours. They were using the toilets by the underground car park to change and wash out their swimwear. We mentioned it to reception as we checked out and they seemed shocked. Maybe it will be stopped from now on. Wouldn’t stay here again unless they spend money on the rooms - simply not up to standard.
