    Been to this hotel many times previously so booked this time as a "safe bet" after family illness, needing rest and relaxation. However, met by major construction work in progress with dust everywhere. Limited health and safety also caused concerns with open, unattended lift shafts. None of this was warned by Jet2 prior to holiday and on-site rep and hotel management did nothing to eleviate the issues and problems.Star Prestige was one plus factor with the sun beds, pool, food and drink available. Also a good room, although a bit dated, with fabulous sea view.Generally, staff are friendly although drink service in restaurant was slow unless you were German and/or tipped! Entertainment was poor and there were not acceptable alternatives for evening drinks because of the work on the one bar area.Overall a very disappointing and not restful holiday.     Iberostar Waves Playa Gaviotas Very disappointing stay, especially for families with young children. The hotel is presented in TUI offers as family friendly, but on site it looks completely different. On arrival we were welcomed very nicely after the transfer, with drinks offered at reception and our child receiving biscuits, which made a good first impression. The biggest issue is the ongoing renovation. Construction work takes place every day from around 8am until even 8pm or later. Noise from drilling, digging and machinery as well as dust is noticeable everywhere, including the pool area, inside the hotel and even on the beach. The construction area is only separated with red and white tape, which feels completely inadequate with children around. The hotel is not suitable for strollers at all. The main access ramp was closed due to construction vehicles, making it impossible to enter with a stroller, and access to the beach requires stairs so the stroller has to be carried. It is also absurd for families that if a baby falls asleep in a stroller you are not allowed to enter the restaurant and staff may ask you to leave, which means you miss your meal. Room key cards also stopped working several times and we had to go back to reception to reprogram them, which is very inconvenient with a child. Another major downside was the air conditioning system, which could not be turned off. In May the nights were quite cold and only a very thin blanket was provided for each person, so the child was cold at night. The hotel itself feels very outdated, around 30–40 years old, and only parts of it are being renovated. There is an unpleasant smell in the corridors and the furniture is old. Beds are uncomfortable with very old spring mattresses and instead of a double bed we had two single beds pushed together that kept separating. Cleanliness in the restaurant is poor, with worn and often not properly washed plates, cutlery and cups, sometimes having to change several items to find a clean one. Plastic cups at the Oasis bar were also heavily worn. Food is average: breakfasts are monotonous, lunches more varied and dinners generally good. A big positive is the drinks and alcohol selection, which is one of the best I have experienced in all inclusive hotels, with well-known European brands and the option to make your own drinks at the Oasis bar. The rooftop bar with ocean and beach views is excellent and the location of the hotel is probably its biggest asset and what you are mainly paying for. Staff are generally very friendly, especially housekeeping. Bed linen was not changed daily. During dinner guests are offered Moët champagne and the manager walks around with a tablet asking guests to fill in surveys. The hotel seems to receive good reviews mainly because most guests are over 60 and appear less bothered by the conditions, smells and ongoing renovation. I do not recommend this hotel for families with children aged 0–4. Lack of proper infrastructure, construction noise, cold nights, and general conditions make the stay exhausting rather than relaxing.     Je2 holiday 11 nights paid extra for Starprestige Great hotel with good food and service, this is our 4th visit. Major building work going on now and until at least June.     Hotel is nice but ruined by construction works

    Hotel is good and food is nice but the entertainment wasn't as planned. Events were cancelled without notice and some were awful.We book the the holiday being told minor renovation works were going ahead. Wr didn't mind this. The first few days was a small hand jack hammer and that was expected.Today 2 diggers and 3 dumper trucks showed up pecking at the concrete for 10 hours. This is expected to continue for 2-3 days.
