Tamaran is an apartment complex, and each apartment is privately owned.This review refers ONLY to Tamaran 404, the apartment I rented.Positive aspects: Very nice apartment with a large sitting area, a very good balcony, very good kitchen with everything needed if you feel like cooking, good bathroom with also a washing machine, helpful owner, good free wi-fiNegative aspects: Reception closes at 6pm; reception staff totally unfriendly.Small bedroom and small bed. There was no air conditioning, which is a big negative point: there were only two fans, that were quite noisy if kept on maximum, the only way to have a little of cool air. Sleeping was not comfortable: it was either with no fans and closed windows (too hot), or with closed windows and fans on (too noisy), or with bedroom window open (noises from the street), or with the sitting room window open (noises from discoteques until late).

What a great little base for 7 nights , the apartment is private rented in a large complex, cannot fault the service we received whilst we stayed , we were met promptly and checked in, any issues ( which were none ) we only had to message Monica. It is a short walk to the dunes and a beautiful walk down to the beaches, Cita centre 2 min walk and Yumbo about a ten min walk. Good supermarket directly across the road, lots of options for eating as this street has everything on it , I would advise eating at the golden bamboo Chinese restaurant, set menu B unbelievable value and none of the slop you get at the buffets in the Yumbo. As people have said it is an older style complex but was perfectly clean and lots of room. The balcony gets all the morning sun and the pool area was immaculate. I watched them clean and maintain the pool areas each morning, lovely. Always room on sunloungers and when we were leaving as we had to check out at 11 am for the cleaners, the concierge said we were free to stay by the pool untill we wanted to leave, he also let us use the shower downstairs to freshen up before leaving . Great bargain stay guys we would have no problems returning in the future.

I stayed here for 2 weeks over October / November I booked via booking.com. The booking was not directly arranged with the apartments but through a 3rd party , Monica. The only difference is that Monica deals with everything for you. Reception will not assist. But Monica is only a WhatsApp message away and I had no need to contact her for anything other than the safe key. The apartments are spacious. Like most apartments the units can probably do with a refurb but this is common on the island. The room was clean. Large kitchen seating area. Separate lounge area down a couple of stairs. Microwave, kettle, coffee machine, iron and ironing board and hair dryer are all in the room. The pool area is the big bonus here. It’s immaculate and very large. Lots of sun beds. No early morning bed rush. The last time I visited there were pads to use on the sun Beds, but because of COVID this has been withdrawn. The pool area is cleaned every day. Although reception won’t assist they are very pleasant when approached. I love the apartments. I will happily return. Great location on the Main Street a 5 to 10 minute walk from the Yumbo.

I am staying at this apartment building right now. It is nice and the pool area is great.But all spoilt my the REALLY bad-tempered, UNFRIENDLY and cranky old man; that works at the reception. He really has no 'people-skills' and wonder why he is working in the hospitality business. He seems to be very misogynist and homophobic. Avoid this place at all costs. There are a other much friendlier places around.

We stayed here over Christmas 2020, quite by accident - the accommodation we had booked was closed for renovation (without telling us) and we were rescued by the manager of Tamaran. We liked it very much here: the apartment was compact but comfortable (not luxurious) with a big balcony overlooking the pool (with friendly lifeguards) and beyond that to the sea; we were surrounded by food shops so we could self-cater but there were so many really good restaurants close by, we ate out for dinner. The location was excellent, right in the swing of things: we were able to walk or get a bus to the beach and other locations like the botanic garden and the lighthouse. There was an Italian restaurant/bar within the hotel (open during the day and weekends for dinner) where the food and service were terrific. We had such a lovely time on Christmas Eve with a gourmet six-course meal cooked by Luca and beautiful singing from our host Ivan; I don't normally like karaoke but this was such fun, including songs chosen specially for us English visitors. It felt very moving at the end of this extraordinary year when the UK was leaving the EU and we had been in lockdown for so long. The staff at reception were friendly and helpful and took a personal interest in us. We would be happy to go back any time.
