  Friendly, quiet solo escape

  Had a lovely stay at the Veintiuno Hotel recently. It is a small, quiet hotel right in the centre of the beautiful old town of Vegueta. The staff were all extremely friendly and welcoming, and it felt very safe as a solo traveller. The breakfast staff also catered for my gluten-free diet which was very accommodating. (Vegueta isn’t particularly coeliac aware unfortunately).The roof top has nice views, with an enclosed breakfasting room. However the pool is just a cool plunge pool and it’s a bit too chilly to spend any time in!I would definitely recommend a stay at this pleasant and peaceful hotel. The location is perfect.

  We wanted a week in the old town, rather than a beach resort and, given the disappointing weather, it was the right choice. We picked the hotel mainly because of the reviews and, while it was perfectly OK, we were puzzled by the superlatives.There are about 25 rooms in two adjoining old houses, tastefully refurbished and with a lift. Our premium room at the front was large, light and airy with free water, a coffee machine, kettle, good bed (though poor pillows), lighting and shower. The TV had Netflix, Prime etc. and WiFi was good. There were drawers and hanging rails, but no wardrobe and the small safe was not screwed down, so we didn't use it. With the window and shutters closed it was quiet though, despite fairly cold nights, the aircon failed to get the room below 21C and we started to leave the window open. This meant some late noise from a nearby bar.The roof terrace is the only real public area and, while it has a nice view of the cathedral we weren't impressed. Most of it is taken up by machinery, roof lights, water tank, structural walls etc, with the remaining odd shaped spaces occupied by tired-looking furniture and a tiny plunge pool. There was room for only two loungers by the pool, with another four in a separate area. A wooden shack houses an honesty bar, where you can pour a glass of wine or get a beer.Also on the roof is a very small, cramped and not very comfortable breakfast room, which was cold and draughty during our visit. It seats 15 and guests have to choose from 3 time slots, though in good weather we assume that a few more tables are placed outside. The a la carte breakfasts perhaps make a virtue out of a necessity as there would be no room for a buffet. The breakfasts themselves were good and, although the choice was limited to one each from a list of 5 sweet and 5 savoury dishes, it was possible to mix and match ingredients. The Nespresso coffee machine was OK, though processed orange was the only juice on offer. Room servicing was good and the few staff we met were all very nice. We liked the Vegueta and Triana areas, with their lovely old buildings, museums, cathedral etc. - and we liked them even more after a visit to the concrete jungle of Playa de Canteras. However we would choose a different hotel for a return visit. A nearby one, in the same hotel group, seemed to have a nicer roof terrace and better public spaces.

  Gorgeous hotel. Really friendly staff who were always welcoming and happy to help. Rooftop terrace and the breakfasts were particular favourites. Honesty bar had a good variety too. Very close to bars and restaurants.

  Amazing hotel in a brilliant location

  Lovely hotel in the best location. Situated right next to the cathedral. Rooftop area is lovely. Honesty bar is a great addition. Breakfasts are really well cooked. Our room was gorgeous. Serviced daily. Staff all really helpful and friendly. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or stay here again.

  Very nice small hotel, friendly service and well planned big rooms. Special note on great breakfast which instead of buffet is based on well planned portions from which you can choose.
