    Hotel Roca Negra, Gran Canaria

    rating09 May 2026

Wow, what a fantastic experience we had here. The hotel was outstanding with incredible views, staff and local walks. We upgraded on arrival to the all inclusive and didn't regret it for a second. The quality of the food was first class in the restaurant for buffet food but the snacks and lunch menu at the pool bar were outstanding every day. We had the best pizza, snacks, cocktails and chats with the staff who were amazing. We would like to thank Gisel, Yunia, the SOS lifeguard Raul and Alvaro and the lovely receptionist who checked us in plus all the staff we didn't get the names of. Our room on the ground floor was also beautiful and clean. Even learnt about the local festival which sounds amazing in August. Fantastic, thankyou and we will be back. 100% recommended. John and Lindsay 😀 Hotel- cmanager, Owner at Occidental Roca Negra - Adults Only, responded to this review Dear John,Thank you for your positive feedback. We are delighted your stay matched the high standards we strive to maintain. Choosing our all-inclusive option allowed you to savor diverse dining experiences, from the restaurant’s varied buffet to the poolside offerings, and we’re thrilled these met your expectations. Our team, including Gisel, Yunia, Raúl, Álvaro, and the reception staff, takes great pride in creating memorable moments for guests. Your kind words about their service and the enjoyable conversations will be shared with them directly. It’s also heartening to hear your ground-floor room provided comfort and that learning about the local August festival added cultural richness to your visit. The surrounding natural beauty and walking trails truly complement a stay here, and we’re glad you appreciated both.We look forward to welcoming you back on a future occasion.Best wishes,Reception Dpt.

An enjoyable sunny escape with a sour ending

    rating27 Apr 2026

My girlfriend and I stayed recently here and overall we enjoyed ourselves. Sadly, we had a bad end to our stay here and so I’ve had to drop my rating by a star because of this. I will detail this at the endService:The bar/waiting/reception staff were always very welcoming, polite and attentive. The drinks system is quite unique, which I haven’t experienced before at an all-inclusive. When ordering a drink from the bar or restaurant, your order is written down and you must sign the sheet along with your room number. It did seem strange at first and I had to check with reception that we wouldn’t receive a big drinks bill at the end of our trip (We didn’t).Food: A really good selection of foods at the breakfast/dinner buffets. They also put on themed evenings from time to time (sushi, Mexican etc) which we loved. The biggest winner though for us was the lunch menu; every dish was really good quality and a good portion size. Room:The room was clean and welcoming with a great view of the sea. We paid an extra £60 for a sea-view room. However, the way the hotel is set up I think you technically get a sea-view from any room even if you’re situated by the pool. The only downside to the room was that the bathroom had an awful sewage smell at times, especially on the sunnier days. We ran the extractor most of the day but it didn’t seem to do too much. Also the rain-shower head is a bit chaotic and generally just went everywhere.Facilities:Some really good gym equipment including free weights and a few cardio machines also. It was all in really good repair too.My girlfriend had a massage one day at the spa and said it was extremely relaxing. The rooftop bar is a great space to relax in the evening with some great views of the mountains and the sea. There is live music too a few nights a week which we enjoyed.Location:There isn’t a huge amount of local activities within walking distance as the hotel is quite remote. We often walked into Puerto De Las Nieves (15 mins away) to go for a drink and visit the local Spar for water as the hotel doesn’t offer a place to refill your bottles. I found this strange considering they’re supposedly an eco hotel. They only sell bottles of water at roughly €1/1L which is quite expensive. There are also restaurants and a small beach by the pier which was nice to sit at and watch the boats come in.We visited Finca Los Castanos which is a coffee plantation (approx. 20 min taxi drive) which was incredible. We got a full tour of the location with coffee and snacks included at the end. I’d highly recommend this even if you’re not an avid coffee drinker as the location and walking through all the fruit trees is wonderful. You can also hop on a bus and get to Las Palmas in under an hour (€4 each way per person) and get a taste of the closest big city. The sour ending:Our flight home on our last day wasn’t until 22:00 which meant we’d have essentially all day at the hotel but standard check-out is 12:00. We went to reception the night before to ask about a late check-out and were told we’d have to come back in the morning and ask as they don’t know if they can offer this until then. We went back in the morning and the reception confirmed it was fine for a small fee (€40 until 6pm). We paid and then went to enjoy the rest of our final day. We came back to our room around 4pm after our last dip in the pool and began to get ready for our flight home. We were then both in the process of getting changed when someone enters our room. It turns out due to an ‘error’ on their system, this room had been given out to another guest who came straight in whilst we were undressed. To say we were embarrassed is an understatement and we felt really let down by the hotel and it’s approach to privacy and security. We, of course, complained at the desk and were given a sincere apology for the error but it doesn’t change the fact that it happened and left a poor final impression. We were not offered compensation of any kind.As big as this issue was (and may have been less so if the situation was different at the time someone walked in) it shouldn’t take away from the fact that we did genuinely have a great holiday here and if you’re looking for some good weather, good vibes, good food and a general chill atmosphere, I think you will to. Hotel- cmanager, Owner at Occidental Roca Negra - Adults Only, responded to this review Dear Matthew,First of all, we would like to sincerely thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review of your stay at Occidental Roca Negra. We are delighted to read that, overall, you enjoyed your experience with us, especially highlighting the friendliness of our team, the quality of our gastronomic offer, the facilities, the spa, the Rocktop atmosphere, and the unique surroundings of Agaete. We truly appreciate your positive comments regarding the service, breakfast, themed dinners, and lunch menu, which we will be happy to share with the respective teams. We also take note of your observations concerning the room, particularly the bathroom odor and the shower, and will continue working closely with our maintenance team to avoid such issues in the future. However, we would like to offer our most sincere apologies for the incident that occurred on the last day of your stay during the late check-out. We fully understand the seriousness of the situation and the discomfort it caused, as guest privacy and security are absolute priorities for us. This incident was due to an isolated system error that should never have occurred. We have reviewed the internal procedures and reinforced our controls to ensure that a situation like this does not happen again. We deeply regret that this episode affected the end of what had otherwise been a very positive holiday, and we are especially grateful that you still chose to share such kind words about your overall experience. We sincerely hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again in the future and to offer you the peaceful and attentive stay we strive to provide all our guests.Kind regards,Claudia H.Assistant to the General Manager

A perfect place to stay at the best location in Gran Canaria - fabulous views of the ocean and the mountains ✨ ❤️ ☀️

    rating18 Apr 2026

The hotel, lobby, rooms and the terraces are well maintained and very nice and cozy. The breakfast and the buffet in the evening were very good, with continental breakfast with lots of options and local delicacies and different theme every evening like Spanish, Italian, Canarian, American and Asian cuisine and a seafood night👌✨. Was so perfect that we didn't go out to eat on the evenings😃 The swimming pool and a hot tub are heated and very nice and clean, lots of loungers around and a bar with many options, including non-alcoholic cocktails. The spa on the ground floor is absolutely fabulous - we got a fabtastic whole body massages from Alba who got rid of all our knots and stresses👌❤️ I also highly recommend the spa experience where you get a variety of water massage options and several saunas to choose from✨ Beds and pillows in the room deserve their own mention - they were so good! My bed was perfect and springy - not too soft and not too hard, the pillows were amazing - I prefer a fluffy, but flatter pillow, not the high type that makes your head feel like snapping off the neck🤭 My travel companions also were very impressed with the beds and slept amazingly - we had three rooms and we all were impressed with sleep quality👌 There is a mini fridge and a kettle with selection of teas and coffee - had caffeine free one too! The staff - both reception and the housekeeping - were friendly, smiling and very helpful, the service is top notch! The parking at the hotel was ample and very nice to have. Some things to point out, not as negatives, but something that's good to know. The bathrobes are available at an extra single charge, the pool towels are included though - we got a card to exchange for the towel at the spa. The bathroom has no tissues, probably as an environmental point, didn't bother me, but I've never seen a hotel bathroom without them before🤭 Drinking water needs to be bought bottled and we got big 5l bottles from the grocery store since we had a car. It is a short walk to the village of Puerto de las Nieves from the hotel, so the car was not really necessary, but good to have if you want to drive around the island. We did that - drove to the south following the GC2 road to Puerto De Mogan and spent a nice day there. Judging from the drive around the island, Agaete is the most scenic place on the island, with fantastic views of the sea and the mountains ✨👌 Other than that - very happy (and I am very picky about all these things). Thank you❤️❤️❤️ Hotel- cmanager, Owner at Occidental Roca Negra - Adults Only, responded to this review Dear Lena,We really appreciate your feedback. We are delighted to hear that our location offered you such spectacular views and convenient access to both natural beauty and local attractions. It warms us to know you found our facilities well-maintained and cozy, from the heated pools to the restorative spa treatments provided by Alba. Our culinary team takes pride in crafting diverse menus, and we are thrilled that the breakfast and themed dinners enhanced your stay.Your appreciation for the comfort of our beds and the attentiveness of our staff motivates us to continue upholding these standards. While we note your comments about supplementary amenities, we are glad these did not overshadow your overall experience. We hope to see you again soon.Best regards,Laura M.Guest Experience

    Wouldn’t go back

    rating18 Apr 2026

Hotel itself it’s fine, just nothing to do during our stay. No entertainment apart of some music few times per week. Food: not many choices, but generally ok. Deadly quiet and boring stay. Best go south, weather was also bad. Mainly older guests which not sure where that was as seen them in the restaurant. Very boring stay. Hotel- cmanager, Owner at Occidental Roca Negra - Adults Only, responded to this review Dear Lukasz,Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are glad to hear that you found the hotel itself comfortable and the food generally acceptable. However, we are sorry that the atmosphere and entertainment did not meet your expectations and that your stay felt too quiet. Our concept is designed to offer a more relaxed and peaceful environment, with occasional live music during the week. We understand that this may not suit all preferences, especially for guests looking for a more lively experience. We also regret that the weather did not help you enjoy your stay to the fullest.Thank you again for your time, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.Kind regards.Laura M.Guest Experience
