  Worst hotel we've been to on Gran Canaria

  We stayed at Porto Alegre from 21 to 28 March 2026. After many holidays on Gran Canaria we can unfortunately say that this was the worst hotel we have experienced there.On Saturday, March 21st, large amounts of concrete and brickwork flooded from our terrace. It created a real safety risk and made the terrace unusable for several days. We immediately went to the reception and asked to change rooms, but were greeted with little understanding and no regrets. The hotel was full and the matter was taken very lightly.The next day the guard came and knocked more concrete. He went through our apartment several times wearing shoes, so the floor became dirty. We asked for washing, but were told that it was not a washing day and little help.During the entire stay, it continued to spray concrete pieces from the surface. In addition, the reception lacked towels to distribute, we did not get new towels at each laundry.The customer service was consistently poor – no regrets, no quick actions and very little understanding of the situation.   We went to the poolbar and had a lovely meal. Ib and his team went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They have a great selection of Scandinavian food but also serve other dishes. Unfortunately we couldn’t make their Grill night on a Thursday but can only imagine it to be very good.

  Porto Rico is a pleasant place to visit with a nice beach and town area the weather is hot and sunny most days of the year only thing wrong with it is the climbing of stairs and steep cliff roads not recommend if you have difficulty walking nice new shopping area just been built worth a visit and boat trips a plenty if you want them people friendly and helpful plenty of taxis if you want them

  This is a fantastic place, everything you need is there and even what you don't need is there. Everything you want to do on holiday (beach, bars, restaurants, shops, sights etc) is right there on your doorstep.

  Transfer was the usual hour or so, we were quite lucky as only second drop off.. Greeted early evening by the most helpful manager... Found the apartment was definitely lacking in bed space as we travelled as a couple with a 15 year old who was expected to sleep on the sofa.. This was hard, narrow and impossible.. Even though we had paid for 3 adults.. Kitchen was limited electric hob, massive fridge freezer which great and a microwave.. Tried cooking but managed to burn everything apart from scrambled eggs in the microwave had to rent a toaster for a euro a day.. No kettle either..said about the bed situation to the manager the next morning and straight away a put me down bed was delivered.. Gorgeous views over looking the harbour I think was had by every apartment.. The mini market is manned by the reception and has most things.. Pool bar closed all trip.. maids where in every other day....While we were there no English people at all, felt a tad isolated.. Short walk to a bigger supermarket and bars and restaurants.. Beaches are gorgeous amadores beach is a 5 euro each way to go too.. Defoe worth it.. If your able to walk a half an hour down hill trip then the nightlife in the centre is great for all ages even kids with the arcades.. Deffo a taxi back yet again 4-5 euros.. Great holiday, brilliant hotel manager who will do anything for you.. Hope this helps
