4 star hotel in pictures, 2 stars in reality

    rating14 Jan 2025

I've chosen the hotel because it had a parking and it was în the free traffic zone. It had 4 stars and nice pictures. But the reality hit us when we got into our room. It was really old, with smelly pillows and bad furniture. At most it should have 2 stars not 4.I strongly recommend you to chose another one.

From the initial friendly welcome to the swift checkout, this was an excellent 11 day stay and we intend to return. We were in a third floor, front facing balcony room (323), which was a decent size, with clean bathroom and pleasant views from the balcony (pictured). Breakfasts were excellent, and whilst we didn't use the restaurant for an evening meal, the bar food, sent out directly from the kitchen, was of good quality.Parking might be an issue at certain times of the day, but there is further parking across the street so it shouldn't be a problem. We got a space straight away and didn't use the car at all during our stay but when we walked out of the hotel, we could usually see a space. It's a 20-30 minute walk down to the beach/town, and the uphill walk back an be quite gruelling, but we only did it once, as the buses were so frequent and dropped you within 200m from the hotel. Tip: go to the Information Centre in town and get a Basque Card, which lasts for 10 days, gives you reduced prices on many attractions, and makes a single local bus journey absurdly cheap, 69c from memory. If you want to be in the middle of the San Sebastian action, this is not the hotel for you, but as a peaceful retreat with easy bus access to town this is just the job. Highly recommended!

Impossible trying to find a car park space nearby

    rating26 May 2023

I was expecting far more based on the photos on their website. The biggest issue here is trying to find a carpark which was a disaster as this is in a residential area and I ended up having to park a long way away. The room we had was a reasonable size but they hadn't dried their sheets and towels properly and they smelt musty. The check in process took ages and a long queue of people built up.Breakfast was reasonable.

    What A Find

    rating12 Apr 2023

Two nights in Donostia San Sebastián with a guided walking tour booked for our full day in the town. The hotel is really comfortable and the staff are all truly lovely. Our room had everything we would want but like so many Spanish hotels they don’t provide tea and coffee making facilities in the room. We travel extensively in Spain and bring an aero press coffee maker, its small and convenient for travel. We have a small travel kettle and bring coffee. Milk is more challenging now as since Brexit milk and milk products cannot be brought in but that can be addressed with a bit of planning. That said, breakfast starts at 07:30 and the coffee from the machine is actually OK. A good selection of breakfast choices including bacon and eggs. What we do like about this hotel is the staff. All are friendly and smile all day long. The young girl at the bar was really friendly and we felt welcomed and comfortable. Plenty of comfortable seating in the bar area and food can be obtained via the bar menu. We however chose the restaurant both evenings and were so so impressed. Our food was excellent and we were looked after both nights by two different but equally attentive, professional staff. I didn’t get the name of the waiter on Tuesday night but he was delightful. Thursday we chose the tasting menu and so glad we did. Every single dish was superb. A special mention to Irina ( Irene?) who served us. The restaurant was really busy and she was on her own waiting on tables. She was friendly, charming and helpful even though under pressure due to the volume of diners. She did a fantastic job. The food here is some of the best hotel food we have had.All food and drink is on a pay at the point of use, no putting it on the room but for us that worked really well as the room was prepaid so checkout was quick and easy. Just leave the key in the box and go.WiFi is excellent. If you are driving there is parking in front of the hotel but not enough spaces if the hotel is full. There is parking opposite. The hotel is situated on a hill, and I mean a hill!!!! The walk into town took about 25 minutes. We discovered the taxi rank right by the bandstand near the seafront and it was only €8 to get a ride back up the hill. If you are visiting the town you will have a comfortable welcoming stay here but come thinking “ taxi” to get back.
