    Not for breakfast lovers!

    rating27 Jun 2025

This hotel has a great location, but that is about it. I spent two nights here due to the location, but next time I will pick somewhere else. The overall impression of this Ibis hotel is sloppy and that it is not very well managed. On day 1, I can see that there is only one elevator serving my section of the hotel, and I am on the top floor. Just saying to me myself:”Hope this elevator will not give up in the next two days!” It took less than 24 hours! I came down for breakfast before 9 am on day 2, and that was obviously far too late. No juice or water, coffee machines that needed service, very poor selection of bread and all the various fruit jams were long gone. I have seen hundreds of breakfast buffets in different hotel categories, but this one easily qualifies among the worst three I have seen. I cannot believe you can charge customers for the breakfast buffet in its current condition. I went across to the train station and got a very good breakfast! Then there are all the minor things like key cards that do not work (on several occasions in 24 hours), and hotel rooms in dire need of TLC. I am not referring to cleaning, but rather the interior decoration which reminds me of East German fashion circa 1975.This hotel has a lot going for it, but today they do not deliver, considering price and service. I stayed at another Ibis in Lyon recently (similar category), so I know that Ibis knows what good looks like!

    Convenient Location and Helpful Services

    rating25 May 2025

Ibis Saint-Charles in Marseille is in a great location—just a 2-minute walk from the metro station, which has plenty of shops where you can grab essentials, food, or coffee. The area is well-connected, and within a 15-minute walk, you’ll find superettes, Carrefour, McDonald’s, and various Turkish food options along the way. The Old Port is about a 20-minute walk, and it’s a lovely, tourist-friendly spot full of restaurants, beautiful views, and shopping. You’ll also find the Galeries Lafayette there, inside a mall with many other stores. The hotel staff were helpful, especially when it came to luggage storage. We arrived before check-in time and were able to leave our bags securely while we explored the area. The same service was offered after check-out, which made our travel day much more comfortable. Breakfast included nice options like croissants, pain au chocolat, and a really good hot chocolate. The only downside was the room size. For a budget hotel, especially compared to other Ibis locations, the room felt quite small, and we had some difficulty storing our baggage. There wasn’t much space to move around once the bags were in.Overall, a solid choice for a short stay with great access to transport, food, and tourist spots.

    Mediocre Hotel, $731 mistake

    rating07 Apr 2025

I was extremely disappointed in this hotel, in management specifically (for reasons below). When I entered my room it smelled like an ashtray. Do they still allow smoking in rooms? I switched to a different room, but it had a similar smell, just not as bad. The tiny bathroom had an older sink that was stained (pic). When the lights were off at night there was a small green light continuously flickering near the ceiling. My $731 mistake: I'd booked a room for three nights through Reservation Stays and when I was reviewing my 6-week itinerary, I realized I'd accidentally booked March instead of April, still 12 days prior to the March dates. I immediately tried to change the dates, with the understanding that there might be a penalty. I couldn't change the dates without canceling and then rebooking, which I did. Then I learned my original booking was nonrefundable. From there I went in circles between Reserv Stays and hotel management, with one saying it was the other's non-refundable policy. Finally, Reserv Stays said that if IBIS would send them an email stating that they were okay with me getting a refund, Reserv Stays would give me one. Again, I didn't expect a full refund, given my mistake. Not only did IBIS management refuse to give me a refund, they refused any kind of compensation, such as a room-upgrade or breakfast, which would have put them out maybe $33, or ten percent of what they'd already made off of me.Their unwillingness to be flexible in any way left such a bad taste in my mouth, especially since I ended up paying $731 for three nights in a mediocre hotel. The ashtray smell in the rooms added to my annoyance.Don't expect much from this hotel, should you decide to stay here.

    Terrible experience...very weak customer service

    rating17 Oct 2024

I and my wife checked in the hotel on 12 October 2024 about 11.30am and we were told that our room would be available by 3pm. When we called around 3pm, the reception guy told us arrogantly and jokingly that our room would be available at 9pm and told us to wait in the reception area.As nothing was forthcoming and as we saw other customers were receiving their room keys, we called again on the reception guy. He gave us the room key and instead of opening the locked room to collect our baggages, he disappeared from our view. After some minutes while waiting for him to unlock the door where we kept our baggages, we decided to search for him. He found him sitting leisurely at hotel bar taking his lunch. We felt that he had done him purposely. He candidly told us that we should be patient and finally unlock the said door. Thus we had a terrible experience and would not recommend that hotel. Ibis Marseille Saint Charles , Directeur général at ibis Marseille Centre Gare Saint Charles, responded to this review Hello and thank you for your comment. To come back to your dissatisfaction, you were part of a group, and the rooms were actually available at 3pm, not 9pm, your luggage was put in a lounge for more security. The rooms that were given were those of the participants of the group, in alphabetical order, the whole group was understanding to this normal expectation. You had your room before your colleagues who were quietly waiting their turn. It's a bit like the principle of traveling in a group, having a little patience, and thinking a little about your neighbor. And my receptionist has a lunch break between noon, and he is not used to making the customer wait voluntarily, don't worry. Sincerely, Régis KOCH. General Manager

    Ibis a perfect overnight stop

    rating10 Jul 2024

Perfect stop when arriving in Marseille late evening and catching an early train. Across the road from Gare st Charles. Good restaurant, pleasant environment out in the garden. walking distance from the vieux port and the tourist centre.
