    Great value hotel.

    We had planned to stay at the Parador, but it was fully booked, so we stayed here for 8 nights instead. Despite its four star rating, Hotel Rio Bidasoa was about half the price - so our expectations were not great.The hotel is well located with a convenient car park, and the reception area is welcoming (as were the staff). Buffet breakfast was generally good, and the bedroom was spacious, well equipped and air-conditioned.My primary criticism is that the building is bland and characterless. Internal decor (particularly in the bedrooms) lacks warmth and colour - it feels spartan and utilitarian despite being very clean and well appointed (TV, Nespresso machine, fridge, safe etc). Also - be warned that the laminate flooring seems to amplify and transmit sounds between rooms - you could literally hear a pin drop!. Despite the negatives, this is a good hotel and it offers great value.

    I agree with others that it is not a 4 star hotel, but we are still pleased with our stay. Pros:1. Very warm welcome and friendly staff. They introduced us to Hondarribia, provided plenty of maps, gave recommendations on the places to eat2. Secure and safe parking for a fee (15€ per day, if I remember correctly)3. Decent breakfast with good selection of meats, cheeses, fruit, pastries and freshly made omelettes. 4. Free snacks and wine in the evening is a very nice touch 5. Excellent Nespresso coffee all day6. If you are planning to go to San Sebastián, the bus stop is 2 minutes walk from the hotel7. The free elevator to the Hondarribia old town is also within 2 minutes walk from the hotel8. The promenade is just around the corner. You can take a long walk along the marina and have lunch or dinner by the sea. Cons1. The hotel windows are not noise proof, so you can hear your neighbors’ screaming kids during the day. Noise was not a problem at night2. Guests smoke on the balconies and you can smell cigarette smoke in the room 3. Pseudo-Nespresso machine in the room is useless. I tried to make cup of coffee and it was not drinkable 4. Bathroom is very dated and needs serious upkeep. It was not possible to use stationary shower, which just did not stay in place.

    Absolutely not a 4 star hotel!!Room ok but very noisy. Windows about 30 year old and you can hear everything from outside.Staff not really helpful. Breakfast not ready at 8. Bread arrive at 8.30 and the servant asked for eggs about 45 min later. For a tea I had to go to the reception. Nobody in the breakfast room!! That is not a hotel for 174 euro at night!!!

    It’s got pluses and minuses. Good location, a nice old fashioned swimming pool (beware: pool depth inadequately signed), and a nice grass area to relax in. Very good staff, but limited in number - so no offers to help with luggage. Parking on-site is a bonus - parking in this town is a nightmare. Breakfast is OK, not great.But: our room was way too small and basic, with inadequate storage; and everywhere you look, it’s all a bit tatty, and crying out for some tlc and a lick of paint. So recommended as a place to stay, but what this isn’t is a 4* hotel.

    We stayed one night, and came via car. They have car park spaces for registered guests which in this small but bustling town is a bit of a must. Pool is old school but a nice asset. Would not have stayed here for more than the quick one night stop over on our way through the region. Town is famous for its Tapas (or Pintox as they say in Basque Country I think) but it felt a little too busy and overrated food wise in our view. Decent standard Euro breakfast at the Hotel. Overall its the friendly service at this hotel that stands out, not the facilities per se. That said the family room was good value.
