  Gorgeous boutique hotel in the heart of Getaria

  We loved our stay at Saiaz Getaria Hotel, a gorgeous boutique hotel set in a beautiful old building full of character and charm. There were lovely touches everywhere – antique furniture in the rooms and hallways, with exposed brick walls, giving it a warm and historic feel while still being very comfortable.We stayed in Room 25, a superior sea view room, and it truly lived up to its name with a lovely view across the bay. The breakfast room shares a similar view over the beach, and the breakfast itself was good quality and reasonably priced at €12 per person.There’s also a lovely terrace on the first floor overlooking the sea. It catches the late afternoon and early evening sun – perfect for relaxing with a drink at the end of the day, watching the surfers down below.The hotel is perfectly located right in the centre of town – Getaria is small, so everything is within walking distance. The staff were friendly and helpful, providing excellent restaurant recommendations and even arranging bookings for us.We were travelling with our little dog, which was no problem at all – there’s a small extra charge, but that’s completely standard in Spanish hotels.We absolutely loved the town of Getaria itself and would choose to stay here again rather than in the larger nearby cities of San Sebastián or Bilbao (though they have their own appeal). We personally prefer smaller, more charming places – and Getaria is just that. There are so many fantastic grill restaurants to choose from, serving excellent local produce and, of course, the wonderful local Txakoli wine.I would happily stay at Saiaz Getaria again and am already looking forward to returning next year!

  A total joy!

  Exceptional in every respect - from arrival to departure, the small team do everything in their power to help you get the most out of the town and provide an ideal base to explore. Our superior rated room had exceptional views of the surfing beach and on the floor below, a small terrace offered a superlative ‘sunset’ spot for a glass or two. Great breakfast from yet another room with a view - fresh orange juice, perfect coffee and a good range of cheeses and cold cuts. Mikel, the owner, runs this hotel with care and passion. I found a short video, on line, from 11 years ago - it describes how his parents took on the renovation of the property back in the 1980s - 11 years later and his enthusiasm is unabated.   We arrived at Saiaz Getaria at the end of a long day of walking along the Camino del Norte -- tired and looking for a good night's rest. We got that and much more. Our room reflected the historic nature of the building but with all comforts added. Staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly -- even going out of their way to take care of our laundry to be dry, folded neatly and delivered to us early the next morning. The lunch they packed for us was the best of our walking trip. The only thing missing was a second night stay which we'll try to do next time!

  Deceptive advertising

  We made a reservation in this hotel bc it looked charming and they advertise as having parking available, which is a must for our journeys when selecting a hotel. What a surprise, we arrived and were told that there only 4 parking spaces and they were all taken. We were never advised of this lack of sufficient parking prior to our arrival. We were told to go by the beach or any street in town and park there, we looked in the surroundings and there no parking spaces, so we decided to leave and headed to Hondarribia.What’s upsetting is that they charge us for your room prior to our arrival and that the description of the hotel is so deceptive, basically THERE IS NO PARKING, neither in the city nor in the hotel.Very disappointing Mikel M, Dueño at Saiaz Getaria Hotel, responded to this review Thank you sylviasS8518DF for your message, as we hope that our answer will help others to be well informed about the parking places offered by the hotel, and parking possibilities in Getaria. Parking places are never automatically included in the room reservation. We always inform that we have limited parking places, and has to be requested and booked in advance if needed. Parking is easy in town, except on busy times, like sunny week-ends, holidays, and July -August, from about 11am till 6 pm. Mornings and evenings are quiet in Getaria, with parking options at the port, or streets except at the old town, where the hotel is.As you can imagine, it is not our intention to misinform people about our parking options. We saw your reservation was made via booking.com, and there is an option for "parking" yes/no in the list of services, but no option for further explanation. We may need to revise the information provided, in order to avoid any further misunderstanding. We are very sorry about the misunderstanding. Best regards.

  Just perfect!

  Pictures cannot do this hotel justice. It is beautiful! The building, the bedrooms, the public areas and the staff are all superb. An added bonus, it’s only steps away from a gorgeous harbour, wonderful restaurants and pretty little streets. This is really one of those hotels where we stayed for two nights and wished we could have stayed on much longer.Thank you!
