La Palma more than a disaster movie

    rating28 May 2026

A busy hotel trying to be all things to all people. The breakfast buffet is good plenty of choices some very unhealthy. I was half board so can't comment about the day time other than the good pool facilities and more than adequate gym. Reception were responsive and helpful and the hotel although showing signs.of wear and tear was a pleasant place to stay. I found it a little noisy and aidnt appreciate the attempts at entertainment but it was half term. The evening meal buffet was impressive a good choice of a wide variety of cuisine well presented and well cooked. A little bland and under seasoned but good value and very enjoyable. My room was well appointed and serviced the media options frustrated, promising casting and internet access but not delivering, strange because the internet in the hotel was excellent and I had no difficulty accessing the sites and media I wanted just not through the rooms screen. I found reception very helpful for bike storage and other enquiries and the excursions were interesting and good value.Overall I would definitely use this hotel again when visiting this delightful island

    4 star not merited

    rating27 May 2026

Does not merit 4 star rating as a hotel But very friendly and competent staff in every department. Rooms comfortable and clean but two major negatives.1.No hand rail in shower. Risk for elderly.2.No extractor fan in bathroom. Health risk .Legal?3.BUT food provision and standard a major problem. Cold food in general and usually on cold plates .Has been noted many times on previous reviews. Mentioned to catering staff. Zero response .Regular point of discussion with other hotel clients.Suggested remedy is engage a top catering inspector to carry out an in depth survey a.s.a.pI have not met this problem before at H10 hotels .Privilege booking not justified.

    AVOID

    rating14 May 2026

Absolutely shocking experience for an H10 hotel. Food coming out cold even when the restaurant has only just opened, staff rude and abrupt most of the time, and basic things like an iron aren’t available unless you pay for their overpriced laundry service. The hotel clearly caters brilliantly for Spanish nationals — everyone else seems to be treated like an inconvenience. Check-in was chaos, left standing in a massive queue for ages with zero organisation. Then when it finally came to finding your room, you’re basically left to fend for yourself unless, again, you’re Spanish and they’ll happily help you. There’s also absolutely nothing to do around the hotel, and if you dare speak in the bar while any entertainment is on, you get told to shut up by staff like you’re back at school. For a hotel carrying the H10 name, it’s honestly appalling. The only positives were the branded spirits and the nice indoor water feature in the atrium — unfortunately that’s nowhere near enough to save the experience.

    Poor overall stay

    rating14 May 2026

Very disappointing stay. We chose this hotel based on an OUTSTANDING holiday in an Ocean by H10 hotel so felt the standard would be high. We were sorely let down. The hotel was very clean and initial impression was positive. The lobby was spotless, smelt fresh and the vista of a traditional house and greenery were impressive. Staff were friendly and check in was seamless. Once we got to our floor the initial presentation changed. There were dated couches, stained and dated carpet. The room was clean but very dated and poor storage. We had a standard double with sea view - there were 2 very small drawers, 1 shelf and around 6 hangers. No other storage for clothes meaning we lived out our cases. The rooms itself felt dated as did the bathroom. There was a large amount of wasted space in the corridor between room and bathroom. I must add that the shower was incredibly powerful which we liked. Our sea view was of the sea - once we looked past a very poorly kept tennis court which looked abandoned and an area if wasted space which again, looked unkempt and forgotten about. The beds were comfortable but our room backed onto the kitchen so from 4.30am and midnight was constant clashing and banging noises disturbing sleep. The hotel is also right under the flight path for airport runway so very loud planes caused further disturbance. The walls between rooms was thin again causing poor sleep throughout our stay. The pool area was lovely - it states one pool is heated however we tried 4 pools and all were freezing. Sunbeds were plentiful, as were umbrellas. The pool bar and all bars had an extensive all inclusive drinks menu and incredible cocktail menu. The food at the buffet was poor. Small selection and all food was barely warm. There was a single microwave but at busy meal times this is not enough. Also if im paying to eat I expect hot food - the risks of food poisoning from reheated food is high and I have seen the effect in other resorts. The best meal i had in 11 days was in the flight home and in Santa Cruz. It was so poor at lunch times we didnt bother after 3 days. Evening entertainment was also poor. There were 4 music acts and a "traditional night" on repeat. 3 of the 4 musicians were cery poor and ine was excellent. The traditional night was interesting. There js nothing for families. Location was great. Bus very close into Santa Cruz which we enjoyed. We would not return to this hotel as for us while there were some good elements the overall experience was poor

    Warm Welcome

    rating12 May 2026

We had really enjoyed our previous visit to La Palma and had seen that Jet 2 had recently started flights to the island. We saw that the Taburiente Playa was available and were concerned about the poor reviews but we decided to take a chance and visit anyway and we are so glad we did.The first plus of the hotel was that the transfer from the airport was only around five minutes. On our arrival at the hotel we found that the restaurant had been kept open so we could get something to eat even though it was late evening, another nice touch. Our rooms were clean and tidy as was the hotel, the hotel foyer is stunning. We were staying on an A.I basis and we thought the food was really great as it was Spanish orientated. The drinks were all branded and it is the first time in a while that we have really enjoyed drinks on an A.I basis at an hotel. The hotels biggest positive was its staff who we found to be very professional but also friendly and helpful and this created a nice ambience in the hotel. We felt compelled to write a review as we thought the trip advisor rating compared to other similar properties was very unfair. The hotel is quite old and maybe you could argue that the rooms need updating but for us the quality of the food and drink and the experience at the hotel and the island in general were far more important than the decor. The island of La Palma and its people are fabulous, great holiday. We would love to visit La Palma and the hotel again.
