This charming business hotel is located near to the city's historical centre, only 50 metres from the Castillo de los Templarios castle, on a street offering easy access to the main sights and on St James' Way. The Las Medulas Roman gold mine and Valley of Silence are approximately 25 km from the family-friendly city hotel and the Los Ancares biosphere reserve is around 50 km away. Leon airport is approximately 100 km from the hotel.

Facility

2 suites, 2 single rooms and 44 double rooms are located on 3 storeys and can be reached by lift. The reception desk is open round the clock. Amenities include a baggage storage service and a safe. Wireless internet access is provided in public areas. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. There are a number of shops as well. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage or in the car park. Further services include an alarm call service and a laundry service.     This is both a good place to stay and eat in as well. The location is excellent - being just across from the very impressive castle. The lunch I had here was very nice and served by friendly staff. The breakfast could be a little more generous but it is fine.

    Hotel El Castillo enjoys a very nice location in Ponferrada, very close to the famous Templars Castle.The room was quite dated but fairly spacious and with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was again quite big and fairly well equipped.The service at check in was kind even though a bit slow.Unfortunately, what lowers materially the rating of the hotel is the breakfast: it is what is offered in a low-level hostal, not in an establishment that sells itself as a 3-star hotel.Recommended for the room and location but not for any kind of food.

    The view from the room was amazing, and the service in the breakfast room was lovely, but aside from that this hotel was way over priced for the quality it offers. I wouldn't have written a review, but was tipped into doing so when I stupidly left two items of clothing, and in spite of emailing twice to ask after it, the hotel hasn't been in touch. Ignoring customers isn't good service in anyone's manual.

    Terrific location, but this hotel needs to up its game. The mattress is hard, you get only one pillow, the shampoo and soap sample packets - hardly enough for one shower let alone two - are not refreshed by housekeeping, the climate control does not work well, and the breakfast (extra $) meant a croissant and mid coffee. Oh, and confirm available parking if you need it. We were told to go find a space somewhere. All in all a disappointing stay; I’d suggest looking elsewhere.

    This is a well situated hotel 50 yards from the Templar castle and old town. 15 minute walk from station. It is no frills but provides everything you need including hairdryer . Rooms were hot though despite AC. Bathroom good with powerful shower. Room over Street noisy with window open. Very clean. Restaurant and cafe on site. Seem very popular with locals and menu of day very good value at €12. Breakfast was continental . Good coffee and freshly made orange juice . Not enough if doing Camino. Your rate may include an extra at breakfast like cheese. Check when booking in and insist it is provided at breakfast. What lifted this hotel to next level was the amazing receptionist Silvia. She was charming and very helpful. We had a problem and she was so brilliant in sorting it out with patience and good humour. She is a real credit. Unlike the early morning receptionist who was never behind the reception counter too busy chatting to staff in the cafeteria. Silvia should be given a pay rise. Thank you for all your help Silvia.
