    Medieval hotel

    rating04 Dec 2025

Quirky medieval decor and building.Furnishings in the body of the hotel complement the look. The room was fine and clean.Breakfast was good.Secure parking was important to us for our motorbike and the was more than adequately provided. DtorComercialTemple, at Hotel Temple Ponferrada, responded to this review Dear Ms. Smith,Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us. We are very grateful for your kind words about our medieval décor and how the furnishings complement the building's character. We are glad to hear that you found your room comfortable and clean, and that breakfast met your expectations. We are especially glad that our secure parking facilities were convenient for your motorbike, as we know how important this can be when travelling. Comments like yours encourage us to continue taking care of both the atmosphere and the practical needs of our guests. We would be delighted to welcome you again on your next visit to Ponferrada.Kind regards,Julián Pacios Martínez

    Be aware if Considering

    rating11 Oct 2023

Be aware if considering this property and do not be late in arriving. We were 4 adults (2 couples) traveling for work so not quite strangers. For ease, 1 person booked a room for each couple with each separate name on each reserved room. Upon arrival, which was later (9pm), we were told there was a problem and we had been assigned a suite to share for the night. Then the next day, one couple would be moved to another room. While this was being explained, by the one front desk staffer, there was a constant stream of people asking for their keys, so our check-in was continuously interrupted as keys were found and handed out. After parking the car and making our way to the room, we found out the front desk had not given us the wifi code when we received the 1 key to the room. The suite had a small living room with a rollaway bed and a futon bed. The living room entered into the main bedroom, and the bathroom was then on the other side of the main bedroom; meaning you had to walk through the bedroom to access the bathroom, and through the living room to access the door to enter/exit the suite. So picture this, you have just meet someone and you now have to share a bathroom and walk-through their sleeping area. The next morning, we again confirmed with the front desk staff that one couple would be moved, but that couldn't happen now because the room had to be cleaned. So our reserved room was given to someone else, was that the problem? The couple that would be staying in the current room were gracious enough to let the other couple keep their bags in the room until we all returned from work and got the 2nd room. That afternoon, upon arriving back to the hotel, we found the hotel door was locked and had to ring a bell to get in. When we asked about getting into the 2nd reserved room, we were told all 4 of us would be moving rooms. This after twice before (the night before and again in the morning), the front desk said 1 couple could stay in the current room. When this was mentioned, the front desk staff member said, 'but you did not reserve a suite room'. Well, we did reserve 2 rooms for last night and we didn't get that did we? We also didn't get any type of discount or refund. We asked where our bags were and were told they were still upstairs in the room. So we go up to get them to find housekeeping has 'cleaned' the room, around our bags. Two bags had already been packed in the morning ready to be moved, but the couple that wasn't planning to be moved, still had bathroom things and clothes out. Housekeeping just 'cleaned' around their things. The bed and rollaway had been made, and the futon made back to a couch. We can only assume whomever checked in last that night would be assigned this room and lucky for them we didn't mess up the room, nor touch the new towels, linens, use the loo, etc. What would have happened if we had gone to dinner before returning to the hotel? Our bags would be in the shared room with new guests? The hotel looks great and the air conditioning works. The service (and thinking) was surprising, not in a good way. There is garage parking.

Like walking backwards in time ...

    rating26 May 2023

The Temple clearly wants to be part of the templar knight history of Ponferrada. But the look is a bit out of date. The facade is a cross between a turn of the century - 19th/20th - skyscraper building and a lot older castillo. The interior is very dark, smells of chlorine and try to remind you of the time of the knights - but everything christanity is left out. However, the personal service was fine, when I had ordered a wrong no-changeable date. "No problem, we fix it, " and I did get a room at no extra costs. That, I appeciate.

Does not deserve a 4 star rating

    rating24 Aug 2022

Hotel Temple PonferradaPonferradaDoesn’t deserve to be 4 stars856196436Having stopped here for over 1 week, by default,my Motorcycle broke down, so I had no choice.Repeating, collectively as of other reviews, not impressed. The staff (not including high end management or owners) worked very hard in what they do I presume for very little pay. They where extremely helpful. A big but, not enough of them for a large hotel. I guess they looked after the big groups of locals and tourists especially the restaurant first, before any of the singular tourists or solos got any attention. The bar upstairs is regularly empty and took on average 20 minutes for anyone to be attended too. Not the staffs fault. The hotel is noisy, I never had my sheets changed throughout my stay. The light fittings very temperamental .Breakfast very basic for 8 euros. Most 4 star hotels have some sort of security for obvious reasons. The corridors very noisy, and one particular night , I had to complain at 03.15 . Nobody on the front desk and to call a number if required. The main doors where fully open and absolutely no one in the reception area. Not good in an emergencyI will not be stopping there again, As I have now found out 2-3 hotels in the local area offer better service for perhaps only 5 euros more. It certainly does not deserve a 4 star status. 3 at the most.It has a theme, yes but obviously the management use that and take advantage . It’s wrong to do so.Its probably the oldest in Ponferrada, it shows it’s age and don’t judge it by the photographs, the place is well worn out. Having said that, it is close to the town centre which is lively. My credit goes to the staff for being put in that position in the first place. Never say never!!!! But never again

    Didn’t impress me much

    rating01 Sept 2020

I had to sleep one night in Ponferrada on my way to Galicia. The hotel is kind of old and need a remodeling. The bed and bathroom were fine, but the cleaning was not ok. In the bathroom floor I found some hair. Believe me, I don’t have long and blond hair. The front desk was not as friendly and they could be. There is some work to be done!
