  El nivel de la comida de Villafranca está por debajo de todos los demás paradores en los que nos hemos alojado antes.

  we usually stay at the Paradores in Spain while we are traveling for vacation, last Monday, September 22 nd. we have chosen Villafranca del Bierzo Parador to celebrate a special occasion and spend two nights there to visit the touristic attractions in the area. the young lady who checked us in was pleasant & greeted us nicely, but the only thing I did not like about her that she was telling the guest who was checking in before us his room number very loud instead of pointing it out on his room keys' cover which is a security & privacy issue when there are other people listening! Other receptionists were not even recognizing or greeting the guests when they were entering or leaving the hotel , which I noticed during the 3 days of ourstay! Breakfast were very limited with a very poor small portions!! which we have never seen in any Parador before!! the Dinner for the two nights were a very unpleasant experience which is a complete difference from our usual experience that we used to in the other Paradores where we had stayed in before !! the First night we ordered: 1) a espinaca salad with goat cheese & grilled pear which came without the salad dressing that was in the menu's description! 2) a canonigos salad with fig and nuts , it really has two tiny slices of fig & a half nut and it seems they did not have enough canónigos! so, they put some of damaged leaves of espinaca to fill it up!! which was not in the menus in addition there was no salad dressing added to it !!the main course : 3) a cod fish which was almost ok but the garnish was not having any taste !! 4) grilled salmon in a size was like a sample ! in addition it was raw & cold inside including at least 6 bones!! the dessert: 5) a pastry I do not remember its name now but it says something with gold! which was like broken pieces of a cake with no flavor! 6) a sacher chocolate torte that came with No chocolate!! it was like ginger bread crumbs to form it as pice of torte together, they got it very very soaked in glucose syrup!!! the Second night dinner: 1) grilled leaks salad that was half burnt!! 2) I decided to order the espinaca salad like what my wife ordered the night before, may be I get better luck with the salad dressing! but it came with exactly 4 small crumbs of goat cheese!!! it did not have a few slices like the night before!! and they added 2 grapes cut into 4 halves one in each corner of the dish , which is not in the menu description!! really there is No presentation standard of the same plate if the kitchen has different cook each night!! main course: 3) Merluza fish on green rice, the Merluza was a very tiny square piece with no taste sound like it had been cooked while was frozen!! 4) again I decided to see if the cod fish of last night would be better! but for my bad luck , it was completely like a chewin gum , with a few bones as well !!! literary I spitted out each bite as it was impossible to chew on it sound like it was cooked in the microwave while it was frozen!! the garnish of the hummus was enough but has no flavor at all !!! we informed the waiters, they were very apologetic & assured us that they will inform the cooks that we were not happy !! after dinner while we were having our tea & coffee, we heard the table in the corner across from us complaining to the waiter about their dinner too!! upon checking out at noon, we asked the receptionist who was a man in his fifty who we assumed that he has a good experience!! ! if we can see the Parador's director, the receptionist said that the director is not available this week!! he did not bother to ask if there were anything needed!! or if we needed any help !! normally any receptionist would call the person who is in charge if the director is not available!! or he would be concerned if we needed a help!! the only thing that was positive the room was clean but the light sensor in the hallway to go from the room to the elevator on the second floor was taking a long time to turn on!! really we hoped that this Parador would be the same standard like all the other paradores where we have been before!! that was an experience which I hope we would never have again in any future stay in the paradores!!!!   Modern Parador on edge of town.

  Modern hotel on edge of town, free parking. Reception lacked welcome and did not explain any of hotel facilities - we didnt find the pool! Spacious room, comfy bed, air con seemed to be more like air circulation? View was slightly disappointing as we could see the motorway. Also bright fire exit light inside room not ideal at night. La luz del sistema antiincendios en España es obligatoria y significa que funciona correctamente.   Good sized rooms but you even have to pay for bottled water. .Service not the best and food could be a little more refi

  Stayed for one night here as good location on the way to Leon. Good sized comfortable room and bathroom but surprised to find they were charging for bottled water in the bedroom when all other places we stayed in (not Paradores) gave free bottles. Service not great at reception - quickly asked at what time we were having breakfast when we had only just arrived and scarcely knew the breakfast times. Had dinner included in our package. Two courses but only first and mains - no flexibility of having eg main and dessert. Menu not clear (even to a Spanish speaker) as to which were first and which were mains. Service also a bit slow in the restaurant - took a while to get our drinks yet quick to bring a canape. Breakfast OK but better in NH hotels. At breakfast the server called us fromacross the room to ask our room number so not very professional. We would like to inform you that regarding service hours and costs, you can find enough information on the QR code in your room, which is located on the telephone on the bedside table and when you turn on the TV, and at reception , which is open 24 hours a day. The minibar prices are also posted on the minibar door before it is opened. Dining menu consists of one first course (choose from at least eight options) and a second course (choose from at least eight options), as well as seven desserts (7 options). This is the first time a guest has commented on this, even though they had the opportunity to ask the waiter. We regret that situation and wish inform you that we are here to aid you. In addition to all this, all the information about de hotel, prices, timetables services, picnics, swimming pool, taxis, etc....is available at reception on paper in a big expositor. Also in the copy of your contract in paper, signed by you in the check in, you have the information about check out time.   Probably the best hotel in Villafranca del Bierzo

  We were hiking the Camino de Santiago and wanted somewhere nice to stay in Villafranca del Bierzo, so we opted for the Parador hotel as it looked like the best option. Unfortunately this Parador was very dated and soul-less. The breakfast quality was good although the dining room was just a room with no atmosphere. The room & bathroom was clean & comfortable but nothing to shout about here. The photo of the pool on the website looks amazing but when we actually went for a swim, we were shocked at how small it was. It is so small it can only really hold 2 people max. The sauna was turned off and the showers by the pool area were not working. All in all a very disappointing experience and certainly not worth the Euros 172 that we paid for a double room with breakfast.....having said that, it probably is still the best place to stay in Villafranca del Bierzo if you don't want to stay in a hostel! Hemos comprobado las duchas de la zona de piscina y funcionan correctamente. Por otra parte informamos en la guia de servicios que tie en su habitacion y a la entrada de la zona de baño que nuestra sauna debe ser solicitada con 20 minutos de antelacion ¿se imagina tener una sauna encendida por 8h/365 dias al año para que nadie la use? Seria poco racional y sostenible para una empresa que esta alineada con la racionalizacion de recursos....Desde nuestro punto de vista un hotel no debe renunciar a lo basico que es lo que se ha encontrado en el nuestro: limpieza en habitacion y baño, cama confortable, tranquilidad, buen desayuno. Sin duda y asi lo ratifica año tras año esta pagina TRIPADVISOR en la que usted opina, el Parador de Villafranca es el mejor hotel de Villafranca.   Not a standout on our Camino.

  Stayed in April of 2024 while walking the Camino de Santiago. This parador is an average place to stay. We found it a little boring. It lacks personality. We had a view of the highway. Staff is mostly disinterested. There were not many guests.
