It is a nice, charming and very welcoming hotel. The staff has been most friendly and attentive. The setting is very quiet.

Nice hotel!
11 Sept 2025
We spent the week there in this hotel. The staff was welcoming and did their best to communicate with us. We're French, not Spanish. The room was good. The only problem was at breakfast, not enough choices and some food was cold.

Not actually in Lugo
21 Jun 2018
This hotel came up as No 1 in Lugo on TA but it's actually about an hour's drive north of that town in a tiny isolated village. It's clean, well presented and the bed was comfortable. Thought it was let down by the lack of atmosphere in the restaurant and the basic choice on offer.
VILADOVAL, Director de Relaciones con Clientes at Vila Do Val, responded to this review
Hello, CHOManchester. As you say, we are one hour away from Lugo, but our hosts have voted as the hotel number one of our privince. That is the reason why TripAdvidor recomended us to you. We are very sorry that you have not been able to enjoy the atmosphere of the town, that is actually very friendy and cozy. The charm of our town is its tranquility, so when you look for a little disconnection, do not hesitate to go back. We will be happy to have you back very soon.Regards.

Interesting choice away from the coast
31 Aug 2011
Lovingly renovated in rustic style, this "rural" hotel is in the middle of the village of Ferreira do Valadouro, a 20 minute drive from the Galician coast close to the border with Asturias. Our 2nd floor superior room was spacious, tastefully furnished (but no sofa or armchairs), had a wooded ceiling and long, narrow galeria, an antique double bed (great to look at but creaky and rather small), a plasma TV (also small). The hotel has a good bar and restaurant (although they need to get the flies under control, especially at breakfast, and provide more relaxing music) and friendly staff, who helped us several times with a poorly functioning doorkey. The village has a few shops and several good bars where (free) tapas is generously provided with every drink. Personally we preferred to stay here rather than on the coast. We recommend lunch at the O Frenazo restaurant 3kms to the SE on the road to Alfoz (A Seara): eat a menu lunch there then take the easy stroll downstream along the river for 30mins or so to Barbeito then back.
