  Great hotel close to airport

  We spent a night at the 1881 Madrid Ventas Hotel and we were most satisfied. The staff in reception was professional and gracious. We never needed to wait long for an elevator and our room was much larger than expected. The beds and mini sofa were absolutely comfortable and the bathroom was large and well lighted. Everything was exceptionally clean. We decided to take advantage of the Menu del Dia in the restaurant and were pleasantly surprised since it included an appetizer, main dish, desert and mineral water for 18 Euros. The food was well prepared and the portions very generous. We booked this hotel because we had an early flight and it was about 15 minutes from the airport (not during rush hour). Not a lot of sightseeing nearby but it was exactly what we needed and were looking for.   Overall, my family and I had a pleasant stay at the Hotel 1881 Ventas. We occupied two rooms and even decided to extend our stay, which shows our initial satisfaction.However, the experience was severely tarnished when we went to formalize this extension. After I had already paid for the additional night for both rooms without issue, the front desk staff then insisted that we also had to pay in advance for all accumulated charges from previous days, such as parking and room service.As a very frequent business traveler, I can state that this is a completely unusual practice and far from the standard in the hotel industry, where incidental charges are settled upon final check-out. The staff's insistence, coming right after I had secured payment for the extended stay, conveyed a regrettable lack of trust towards a customer who was demonstrating loyalty.The most serious issue is that when we requested to see the official hotel policy stipulating this rule, the staff was unable to produce any formal document. They only presented a typed letter. This lack of transparency and the inflexible and bothersome attitude of the reception staff turned a good experience into a very unpleasant one. It is a shame that a hotel with good facilities fails to cultivate customer loyalty, preferring instead to generate distrust and discomfort. Loredana Tetilla, Guest Services / Front Office at 1881 Madrid Ventas Hotel, responded to this review Estimado Sr. Haro,Nos alegra mucho ver que su estancia fue agradable, aunque lamentamos mucho que se viera empañada por el tema del pago.Como usted bien dice, la práctica en los hoteles, incluidos nosotros, era pagar a la salida y por ello se les requería a la entrada una tarjeta de crédito a la que incluso se podían hacer retenciones. o depósito en efectivo para garantizar los posibles extras.Con la nueva normativa PSD2 para la seguridad en las transacciones con tarjeta de crédito, los importes de más de 30€ han de ser verificados con doble autentificación si es de manera virtual, o mediante PIN si se hace físicamente en el datáfono del establecimiento. Y por supuesto, el establecimiento no puede ni retener estos datos ni hacer uso de ellos sin su consentimiento.Para nosotros es muy importante el trato que damos a sus datos personales, y no retenemos ningún tipo de información sobre su tarjeta, lo primero es la seguridad de nuestros clientes. Y por ello, no le pedimos en ningún momento ninguna garantía de pago, simplemente cobramos siempre la estancia por adelantado.Aún no teniendo garantía de pago por su parte, usted pudo ir cargando todo a la cuenta de la habitación, por lo que no creemos que haya habido falta de confianza por nuestra parte.Le hemos requerido el pago cuando el importe de su factura era bastante alto con la nueva prolongación y no creemos que requerir el pago sea ningún problema, pues son servicios que se habían consumido y que evidentemente iba a tener que abonar.En cuanto al documento formal que nos exige, no lo hay. Legalmente el cliente tiene el deber de pagar por los servicios consumidos. El facilitarle crédito o no hasta el día de salida es algo que podemos hacer o no hacer libremente, el establecimiento no tiene ninguna obligación de darle crédito. Y en su caso, se lo dimos, y eso sólo demuestra nuestra confianza hacia usted.Esperamos que esta explicación le haga ver que la sensación con la que se marchó de nuestro hotel no fue más que un malentendido y esperamos volver a verle pronto.Saludos cordiales,

  The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the Las Ventas Bullring with lots of cafes and restaurants nearby. There is paid street parking around the building, but when we were there in July 2025, all machines within three blocks were broken, so if you park on the street, there is no way to pay. (Seems like a Municipal scam, we visited the police station and the parking office - to no avail, tickets are 90 Euros.) The hotel has onsite parking for 23.10 Euros a day (not per night). The hotel was older but updated a bit. The rooms do not have peep holes or safety swing locks on the doors. The morning front desk staff was very helpful.   Great, having the metro outside the door!

  Nice hotel for one night.Large room, very clean.Metro right outside the door, great for getting into the centre of Madrid for sightseeing. Parked car down below in basement.. very handy!Would have like to have had a whiskey at the bar before going to bed, but they did not sell out whiskey and the bar man was not very friendly, so we left it.!
