    A pleasant stay

    rating03 Jul 2017

I stayed there for 4 days at the beginning of July 2017 and it was a nice experience. Located close to Lavapies/La Latina, it was very easy to reach every part of the city. Perfect for the Sunday visit of La Latina Market. The apartment was clean and i had all the amenities that i needed. Wifi can be a bit slow sometime.

Nightmare in the historical surrounding - everything false and unwellcome

    rating21 Oct 2016

There was unpleasant surprise at the very beginning - we were moved into the smallest scrummy studio I've evere seen instead of the cosy two-level appartment with jacuzzi promised by the reservation. It was getting worse and worser: wi-fi was almost dead, hot water ran for 3 minutes only, the whole district was invaded by unfriendly gloomy emigrants, africans proposed drugs every time we came out of metro, and the worsiest thing which destroyed our patience was the building audibility, it was magnificent, so we felt ourselves laying in the very middle of the street. The closed windows and shutters did not help, every little sound reached us if we were outdoors. But the sounds were not little, they were monstrous: the africans who hold the small shop at the opposite side of the street, used to laugh and scream until 1-2 a.m.; traffic is active through all the night ; and finally - number one in our hit parade - the bar on the opposite side of the narrow street which attracted people every night. Those drunken people, actually the huge crowd, preffered to stay not in the bar but in front of it laughing, screaming and quarelling till morning. It was hell in other words. We did not recieved any help from the agencies, so we interrupted our spoiled vacations in Madrid and went home. Disgusting, brrrrrr....

    Pleasantly surprised

    rating06 Dec 2015

I booked this apartment through booking.com, feeling happy with my decision as it was a good price and close to the centre. I then made the mistake of going on to tripadvisor and reading the comments.Nearly all of the reviews were bad so we were expecting the worst. But when we got to the hotel the man with the keys was perfectly on time and very pleasant. We got into the room and I breathed a sigh of relief as it was exactly as shown on the pictures. Very clean and tidy and great for a three night stay.I don't want to show it as something it's not- the area to some people may seem noisy, but certainly not dangerous- we are two 20 year olds and weren't approached by anybody at any time.I would recommend these apartments as other people have slayed them, and give it a try. They are very good for the price. Would go back as seen as it is a 10 minute walk from the centre and close to a big supermarket.

Decent stay for a good price!

    rating20 Sept 2015

I booked this hotel through Hotwire which meant I didn't know what I booked until after the transaction! Then I proceeded to read all the reviews on tripadvisor and swore I would never book through opaque travel sites again! When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. Yes there is no concierge and you have to book a time to meet with someone to give you the keys. The exchange was pleasant and on-time. Once we saw the room we breathed a sigh of relief. The room was bright, spacious and clean! It has a stove, microwave, washer and all kitchen utensils. This is definitely not a 4-star accommodation but once you get over that, it is not bad at all. This place is situated in an immigrant neighbourhood which to some may be "sketchy" but I found it lively and vibrant. This also meant there are much more food choices besides tapas like Indian food. There is a popular bar right across the street and it could get loud but we travel with ear plugs so it was not a huge issue.

    Out of the way

    rating30 Jul 2015

I booked this property through an opaque travel site, which indicated the neighborhood and the price, but withheld the name and location until I prepaid the reservation. This apartment met my needs for a two night, solo stay in Madrid, but I would have chosen something else if booking directly.I know Madrid very well and am comfortable moving around the city. Therefore, the out-of-the-way location did not adversely affect my stay. It was a short taxi ride from the Atocha rail station, and the a staff member met me at the arranged time to let me into the room. There is no reception at this location, so any service needs must be communicated by phone or e-mail. My requests were attended to correctly, but since there were no employees on site, it took a while to get someone to unlock the door when I had absent mindedly left without the key.Visitors to Madrid might be interested in a more monumental neighborhood than the gritty Lavapiés area. The streets are narrow, and there is nearly constant movement. Some guests might enjoy the contact with local residents; others, as indicated in previous reviews, find such interaction uncomfortable. In either case, the apartment is close to the key sights, on foot or by Metro. The apartment itself was a one-room studio, on the third floor of the building. Be aware that there is no elevator, and I found it challenging to drag my luggage up and down the stairs. Otherwise, the apartment was well equipped, and its furnishings impressed a local friend who dropped in for a brief visit. The kitchenette would allow the preparation of simple meals, and the air conditioning worked very well on one of the hottest weekends of the summer. In summary, these apartments would be best for travelers who know their way around Madrid, can manage their stay independently, and can deal with a location off the beaten path.
