    Quirky hotel in central Madrid

    This was my first stay at the Avani Alonso Martinez, and I found the hotel quite charming. Local artists are featured throughout the lobby, and there is a vending machine featuring Madrid landmarks on small card stock. The staff at the hotel was friendly, welcoming and always available to assist. The check-in process was smooth, as was the check-out process. The location is amazing, and easily walkable to Gran Via, Plaza Mayor, Retiro Park or the Paseo del Prado. If walking is not your thing, there is a metro stop right outside the door of the hotel.     Great location, but hard to get service and help

    Nice location, easy to get to all places. I was promised my receipt by email but it did not come and it is impossible to reach the hotel by email. I also tried to call, but they answer and then put me on hold all the time. I need the receipt for business travel claim. It makes a quite nice stay not so nice. Isolation and soundproofing of rooms are not good.     Beautiful hotel but some things not working

    The hotel is beautiful and the staff were very welcoming and attentive. The rooms are clean and well stocked with various shampoos, coffee and amenities. Love the blackout curtains. Unfortunately several things were not working. The website advertises that there is air conditioning but the reality is that it is turned off in March. The room got very warm at times and the only way to cool off means opening up the windows wide. Then there is no privacy. A man across the street was looking into the room. You can hear all the loud noises on the street while you try to sleep. Additionally the WiFi did not work in the room at all. I chose this hotel because I needed to get some work done and they advertised WiFi but it only worked in the lobby. The other issue that was annoying was that the steamer was leaking a lot of water. The front desk refused to replace it and said we weren’t using it correctly. Dangerous to have water and electrical together. Eventually they did let us borrow another one and we got to dinner late and with a wet shirt. I still give the hotel a 4 because the shower was so big, room beautiful, and staff mostly really kind.
