English- and French-speaking staff at the 24-hour reception desk are happy to answer any questions. A baggage storage service and a safe are available.     Central location but poor condition

    The hotel has excellent location. Walking distance to everywhere. Staff is super friendly, helpful and speak great English. Rooms are small but what is the real problem is the condition. This is a dated, old property in very bad condition. Our room had still musty, moldy smell. AC did not work as it was “winter” but without that then no air circulation. Small window could be opened but cannot be left open for the night. After 3 nights our eyes started to be irritated and pur throats felt prickly. The mold is most likely real! I would avoid this property for any extended stay as it does not feel healthy. Oh, and the elevator broke on day 2… Old, dated property like I said and not as “shown in pictures”

    Staff was super friendly (a special shout out to David), very accommodating and ready to help with anything.The hotel has a cool atmosphere, very modern but also very cozy. The rooms are clean and spacious, very well decorated. Even though we were facing the street, it was super quiet, beds were comfortable. Location is prefect, very central! Very close to the metro Puerta del Sol, a 5min walk. Lots of shops, restaurants options and supermarket are also close by. We had breakfast included, which is served in the restaurant next door. It’s all healthy and gluten free. Personally i loved it, as a hotel guest you get a special menu which includes: 1 cold drink, 1 hot beverage, 1 main dish and a slice of cake.I stayed here with my 10yr old, we loved it and i would book a stay here again when returning to Madrid ❤️ Silvia Morales, Dueño at Chic & Basic Dot Hotel, responded to this review Hi teresac966,Thanks for your wonderful review!     Great location, in the city center, close to everything. Few minutes walk to subway station and plazas/shopping. There is a cafe right beside it. Very friendly staff - special mention to David - he was very friendly and extremely helpful. His service boosted the rating of this review! The room size was slightly smaller to our liking and lack basic amenities such as providing kleenex! The one big complain we had - during our 5 night stay, there were two instances where there was no water in the hotel temporarily. We were told that it had something to do with the water pump.
