    A Great Centrally Located Boutique Hotel

    We chose this hotel due to the reviews on Tripadvisor and were glad we did, as already mentioned is the location, which is essential when on a short city visit. The standard of the room and the friendliness of the staff, whether the breakfast is worth paying for as an extra have all been accurately critiqued on here, in short a great boutique hotel.

    Was going to Madrid for three nights and wanted a central location, walkable to a lot of the places a first time visitor would want to see. Dear Hotel was recommended by the NYT and some other high end travel websites, and the the price was better than most, so I booked two rooms. The dumb name should have been a tip off. The hotel describes itself as “boutique” which I assume means small, unique and with an attention to detail. While the hotel rooms were very quiet and clean, they had stark quality, white and devoid of character (they describe it as “Scandinavian minimalism” or something. Everything seems to have a silly phrase on it “enjoy the view!”, “#skypool”,” smile you’re in Madrid!”, which seems more fitting for a hostel. Plaza de Espagna across the street is lovely, as is the area near the Royal palace, but the Gran Via area is similar to Times Square- tons of traffic and large American chain stores. The pool is much smaller in person, and my husband said it was dirty and reeked of chlorine. The roof has nice views but was beyond crowded and no one was collecting the dozens of glasses left by prior guests. I got a latte for breakfast and was charged 20 euros because it’s a flat charge buffet. This hotel is fine for people on a strict budget, but I’d spend an extra $200 a night to stay somewhere else with a nicer vibe. I don’t need a Four Seasons- we spend the majority of our time exploring the city to make that worth it, but at this point of my life my standards are too high. Look elsewhere! Only You hotel looks much nicer and is only marginally more expensive. I tried to switch our reservation a week before but it was non refundable. Bummer.

    Incredible rooftop city views!

    The location is incredible and very walkable. The rooms are nice, modern and comfortable. The staff (especially at breakfast) are really friendly. Breakfast itself has a lot of options.The views from the high floor rooms and the rooftop are unbelievable. The only downside is that the rooftop can get very cold and windy depending on the season so if you want to grab a drink indoors, you'll have to look elsewhere outside the hotel. There’s no indoor or lobby bar. Other than that, very nice hotel. Would recommend!
