    Curiously wonderful

An unsurpassable location. Over looking the Cross of The Valley of The Fallen. You get free entry to the basilica if you stay here. The Dinner and Breakfast are tasty and plentiful- you don’t choose but that’s ok as it’s part of the charm. The rooms are comfortable , clean and quiet.Yes it’s a wee bit shabby in places but it’s old, it’s a working retreat, it’s lovely!Stay somewhere else? Maybe, but you’ll have lost out massively!

    Mandatory Visit

    rating18 Nov 2022

I recommend visiting the valley of the fallen and staying in the inn, I spent a fabulous week in a peaceful atmosphere, listening to the singing of the monks and their prayers is a divine experience, eating with the monks is wonderful, I wish to be able to return soon the experience was wonderful.Thank you for your welcome

Beware of pictures that do not tell the true story.

    rating04 Dec 2021

This is the worse place I have stayed in, I booked a superior room, what I got was a soulless, bare, uninviting place to spend as little time in as possible.Nothing of comfort to be had, no mirror, hairdryer, nasty cheap sachet of shower gel, not even a bottle of water to be seen. Damp patches on walls, basic furniture that was once used by monks, and now they are charging good money for it.When I spoke to the manager he said " we don't have any stars" then they shouldn't portray it as if it has.Pictures on line show a nice modern bathroom, what we got was a horrible old one that I couldn't Bare to shower in, and it's supposed to be a superior room.Do not stay here if you want to relax and enjoy a nice meal and a good night's sleep, this is for people who are looking to experience staying in a monastery, it most certainly wasn't portrayed like that online . Restaurant and public areas are unheated and so cold you have to keep your coat on, having travelled from UK on the ferry overnight then driven for 5 hours this is not the experience I needed.

    Sound of silence

    rating02 Nov 2019

Maybe this is not a place for everybody, some will see it as a grotesque mausoleum built by former Spanish dictator, others will see it as an impressive landmark with astonishing surroundings. If you are openminded its absolutely worth a visit. The hotel is aesteatic but plain, every corner have something worth while, artwork, furniture. The restaurant serves one dish only of simple but well prepared food.A special mention to the absolute silence at night, its magic.... hospederiasantacruz, Director de Relaciones Públicas at Hospederia Santa Cruz, responded to this review Dear Robert,Thank you for sharing your experience about your stay in our Hospedería and for choosing us for your stay in San Lorenzo de El Escorial. We will be praised if you will choose us again.Kind regards

Watch Out ! Outrageous Fee by Amoma.com

    rating14 May 2019

Made booking via TripAdvisor and “AMOMA.COM” with “flexible cancellation” rateDue to discovery that the Basilica is closed Mondays, we hade to change our itinerary and cancel the stay here for a Sunday night. Then discovered the “fee” charged by Amoma is $60 which is 100% of room rate ( tax included )!!!!This outrageous fee was NOT disclosed in the booking details nor even on Amoma’s terms and conditions. hospederiasantacruz, Director de Relaciones Públicas at Hospederia Santa Cruz, responded to this review Dear Paul,Thank you for sharing your value. Our apologies for not having fulfilled your expectations 100%, but we regret to inform you that we don’t work directly with Amoma.com and we cannot help you with the cancellation policy.Kind regards.
