  Complete RIP OFF.

  What an absolute dump! Walls are paper thin and you can hear absolutely everything from either sides, above and below! People shouting, singing and playing music till 2am. When I complained to staff, they couldn’t have cared less. Room was MUCH smaller than advertised and was absolutely filthy. Complete RIP OFF.

  Great central room for a budget stay

  Booked as a last minute getaway to Madrid. Great Central location and very close to the sol metro stop and central Madrid. Reception were always friendly and we checked in early which is always a bonus.Room is basic and there are very few plug sockets. Room was warm but we just turned the heater off.Other than that no complaints fir a 1 night stay Carlos Lopez, Dueño at Hostal El Pilar, responded to this review Hello.   Fine clean room but very noisy

  The hostel is in a great central location. It took four presses on the buzzer to be allowed in but eventually we entered. The receptionist spoke good English and the check-in was fine. The room was clean and perfectly adequate but it was just 4m from the reception desk and with poor sound insulation we heard every thing that was discussed in the reception area and heard the phone ring every time. So that's why it gets a 3 star rating. Room was fine but VERY noisy. If you're given a room next to reception ask for another if you are hoping to sleep. We have to apologize for your wait at the door, we were probably serving some clients in the part furthest from the reception and sometimes clients ask a lot of questions that we have to answer. It is true that, depending on each person, they may be more or less affected by the noise and that since it is a room with a view of the street and close to the reception you will notice noise, but we think that it is a very personal assessment and normally we do not have complaints about this.Thank you.

  - Super good location that everyone can’t deny.- So on booking.com they advertised something that’s a bit shady: - In fact, there are very few sockets near the bed (only 3! Imagine 4 people-room, each one has a phone, battery or laptop or a camera). We even have to use the sockets in the bathroom to charge our powerbank. Hairdryer, it is not in the room so you have to ASK for it. Booking should specify it. Very noisy and old in interior design. Really need to do with sound-proof. (not only International travellers complain but also Spanish! See, even Spanish people can’t bear it!) - Wifi did not work well (or at least in my room very slow, average rate 30 Mbps, shame!) - Very poorly-equipped, not even a small fridge, we have to put our food outside! No boiler to cook water or microwave (at least shared) to warm food. - Very small trashcan, we even have to ask for a trash bag. - No slippers. Table is too small for four people. Uncomfortable bed. And the structure is not stable, the frame of the bed is breaking down. - They switched the heater off after 10 pm, which let us so cold the first night. Don’t know why, so we have to turn on the air-conditioner. It is better that we have full control of the heater. - The drainage is really bad, they definitely haven’t clean the pipes, very stuffy there. - Another issue is that you probably can’t bring the keys out of the room so every time you would need to leave it at the door, I could think someone would feel not comfortable about this. I would advise everyone to check the owner’s response so to know what their attitude is. Another issue: we book the room beforehand to keep the room, but as to our surprise when we checked the price after we have checked in, the price drop 30 euros, which means an early-bird doesn’t have a discount but instead a disadvantage. All in all, it is not to my surprise that this hotel has a bad ratings. It HAS potential but they are not using it. I would suggest they change everything of what I have said. We understand that you all have a lot of electronic equipment but you have to travel prepared for this and, in any case, we can offer bases with multiple sockets so that you don't have problems. We are not going to respond to all your comments that would take us a lot of time and that ultimately lead us to the conclusion that you should have booked in a much higher category accommodation where they would give you slippers and central heating 24 hours, despite having independent heating in all rooms. You should know that prices fluctuate and sometimes you find, depending on many factors, that it is less favorable but it can also be more favorable. We think that our accommodation is reasonable in terms of quality-price.

  I stayed in triple room with my family ( room 210) .It is a bit small room however it is very cosy, super clean, quiet, free WiFi , tv, 24 hours helpful desk.Location 10/10, cleanliness:10/10.Will I return to stay there again: ABSOLUTELY YES.I highly recommend it.Well done 👏 El Pilar &?
