Ok for basic needs, staff ace, but shabby & cold...

    rating14 Feb 2020

With its lovely staff, location & free breakfast it's decent value for a traveller; a backpacker. However,Dont stay here if you are a holidaymaker, pay a tiny bit more nearby for the nicer feel...THE GOOD:Staff were incredibly lovely, especially the man - he brought hotwater for my lemsip to my room as I was poorly! In a traditional Spanish building with old skool elevator. REALLY feel like you are in Spain. Free breakfast a nice touch though i never tried it.Location perfectTowels provided: unusual for a hostel & means one can travel lighter & cheaper. Towels always annoying difference between ryanair 'small bag' & 'cabin bag' fares for me!THE NOT-SO-GOOD:(My review is, to be fair, probably affected by my being unwell & needing somewhere cosy & high comfort. If i was in my twenties (im nearly 38) i would prob rate this higher.)If you are looking for just a bed to rest your head, to shop or party or sightsee nr to it all- then yes, book here....)I actually checked out & stayed in a nicer place down road for only £13 and BIG difference in decor & 'feel'. I was dissappointed not to have the room that was advertised on this app. My room was really shabby, felt 'cold' & had a massive big crack across the wall. Ugly decor/duvet.Thing is, im not a snob, i stay in lots of hostels, but they are now mostly like hotel rooms with multiple beds. This isn't.I was also spoilt by BCN's excellent value hotel-hostels.@emmypathy: travel/mental health vlog

    Not what expected

Here what you see is not what you find. The photos shown are not an accurate representation of the state of the rooms. Dated with very harsh lighting. Very cold with no proper heating system (one radiator by the toilet). Weird smell (probably from the pipes). Wifi is an absolute joke. Somewhere others had mentioned trouble with hot water: absolutely accurate. Had to wait 10 minutes for anything other than freezing cold water to emerge (which didnt even last for a 5-minute shower). No sound proofing, listened to the guest in the next room watch tv and talk on the phone for hours. For the price you can find better places in Madrid.

    Fantastic find

Stayed here for 2 nights recently and loved it ..... Very central, secure, clean and Georgian (not sure of spelling!!!) who checked us in was so welcoming, friendly and helpful..... The nicest staff member we have ever come across. Great value for money. Our room was very nice with a little balcony. The only negative was the fan which did very little to cool the room in the intense heat. Otherwise it was fantastic and we would definitely recommend it.

    Good budget option

The hotel is located only footsteps away of Gran Via, which is very convenient for sightseeing. Rooms are rather small but for the price they are very good. Breakfast is decent enough for standards of accommodation in Southern Europe. The hotel itself felt very safe.Very good value for money. In the extreme surroundings were some bars and clubs that did not add much to the atmosphere. Sometimes there was no hot water. Furthermore, the reception staff on our arrival spoke no English (or any language apart from Spanish for that matter).

Very good service, accommodations a little lacking

    rating17 Oct 2018

We stayed here for one night in October of 2018. The staff were very polite and very helpful, able to take our luggage even though we arrived several hours before check-in. We stayed in one of the studio rooms. Unfortunately, it was not exactly what we expected. Instead of a double bed, there was a single bed and a couch bed, which we had to assemble and would have been difficult to fit two adults on. So, we split up the sleeping. Bed was decent. Couch bed was...a couch bed. Mattress was newer, I think, but the couch itself has seen some years. All was very clean and tidy. Noise wasn't too bad even though it's right off the Gran Via and we were there on a holiday night (so even later partying in Madrid than usual). So there was plenty we liked about the place -- especially the great staff -- but it wouldn't top my list of places to stay again in Madrid.
