If you like overpaying for the seventies

    rating18 Dec 2024

Outdated badly in need of refurbishment, 1970 really was a long time ago. Staff unfriendly, could only have coffee with a friend in my room if I paid €15, I stay in hotels most days never heard something as outrageous as that. Old fashioned keys that need to be left at reception it really is the seventies!Would help if the spend more time doing up the hostel and the rooms and less time interfering with clients. The room has two plugs one above the bed exactly in the middle, the other high up on an other wall connected to a cheap tv. Bed had hairs in and no duvet, fitting with the 1970 theme of the place, but a blanket of some description and a bed cover my granny who passed away 40 years ago would have been proud.Soap for the shower was a tiny plastic bag, no kettle, no cups no nothing. Really hard to work out why they charge these prices, fair price would be €35-49 per room. If you can't do it for that price just do us all a favour and close the place, it will not be missed.

    Very Satisfied with the Stay

    rating04 Jun 2024

I’ll admit I was a little wary of the stay, but needed a last minute stay during a busy week in Madrid due to my Airbnb cancelling on me the day before I was set to arrive! I was scrambling to find something and this was one of the few available places and I feel very lucky to have come across it. I didn’t need to worry because this place was great - super location, clean, and functional. They let us check in early, which I’m so grateful for as we were completely wiped from all the traveling. If you’re fine with the basics this will work well. If you want luxury, then this is not your place. It was well aligned with the price. The place is located on the 5th floor of the building (there’s a lift, but it’s slow). We had a room with a small balcony that overlooked the busy street - loved that we were able to open the window to get some fresh air. We’re not particularly sensitive to noise so it didn’t really bother us, but I would note that it can sometimes be a bit noisy. It sounds like there’s someone moving things around (?) or rumble of a motor (maybe the metro??), but since we had the ac on most of the time which created some white noise it wasn’t an issue. This place is very close (walking distance) to Sol, Plaza Mayor, the royal palace, and much more.

    Perfect in every way

    rating08 Aug 2019

I stayed here for 6 nights at the end of July/beginning of August. I was able to check in early and go straight to my room for which I was really grateful as I'd got up at 2.20am for an early flight. All the staff were really friendly. My room was great with own bathroom double bed air conditioning and wifi. They offered to clean my room every day which wasn't really necessary but nice of them to ask. The hostal is really central. I was very happy I could leave the key each time I went out as it's a major hassle to have to carry this. I was going to a swimming pool most days so i had no fear of losing my key. I could come and go every time and they just let me in. I stay in Madrid many times and in the future I'll always stay at Hostal Rober if they have availability. It was amazing. Thank you. Nicholas.

Nice place, central, good hospitality, bad wifi

    rating03 Jul 2019

Excellent location, central, but very quite from the street hustle. Rooms are cleaned every morning. The bed is AMAZINGLY comfortable, some of my best nights sleeping, seriously.Very friendly staff, easy and quick check in and check out. Affordable. Only major complaint is the poor wifi connection, was practically not possible to use even near the desk. If internet connection is not your concern, then I highly recommend, especially if you need the comfort of the night sleep.
