    Budget stay

The the 1st time in my life i stayed in an hotel were the toilet paper was rationed (for real). Stayed for 4 nights at the end of the 2nd the toilet paper ran out and was not replaced, so i asked for another roll from the staff who gladly gave me 2 rolls, the next day the 2nd roll vanish, i guess they made the call that i had to much toilet paper!Street was noisy until 1AM but the biggest problem was the internal noise, i could hear everything that was happening in the next room (if you get my meaning...). Staff does not speak english. Towels changed only once during the 4 nights and the shower head was broken.

Right in the city centre, withing a couple of minutes walk to the nearest metro station, restaurants and bars all around. Beautiful balconies to the street!!! Very quiet rooms although, very clean and really friendly staff. Willing to keep our luggage s after checkout. More than we expected for last minute booking!!! Totally worth it!!! :) Hostal-San-AntonioM, Director de Relaciones con Clientes at Hostal San Antonio, responded to this review Dear Ste, Thank you very much for you great review, it's always good to know that a guest had a perfect stay, but in your case you made our job so easy with your kindness and your gratefulness. It's true when we say that we would like to see you again soon. Best regards from all the staff.

    Location and value

If you are looking for luxury this is probably not the place for you. If you do not mind walking up 49 steps to get to your basic room which is clean with a safe, basic single beds, shower and non satellite TV but within walking distance of Retero Park, Plaza Mayor, Prado and only 5 minutes walk from Anton Martin metro, then you have a bargain. People who run it speak English, are helpful and are there if you need them. Hostal-San-AntonioM, Director de Relaciones con Clientes at Hostal San Antonio, responded to this review Dear guest, We appreciate the time spent evaluating our establishment so positively. We strive every day to offer our clients the best service and we are very happy to have fulfilled their expectations. For your next visit we invite you to convey your opinions to our staff so that you can make your stay as comfortable as possible.best regards,

    Awful

I booked this place on booking.com and unfortunately wasn't able to fulfil my trip so therefore I asked for a refund. The Hotel totally refused and I wasted my money with them. The management were very rude when I asked and said it was part of the booking conditions so be aware when booking with this hotel. Hostal-San-AntonioM, Director de Relaciones con Clientes at Hostal San Antonio, responded to this review Dear customer, we feel its about valuation. We would like to explain that you made a non-refundable reservation, benefited from a discount with only one condition, not to cancel; on the other hand in booking offer both normal rate without discount options with the possibility of cancellation and 25% discount if two nights with the condition not to cancel staying. Thank and receive a greeting

    Great location

    rating16 Oct 2016

The key thing to remember is that there is a difference between hotels and hostels. I know that it seems an obvious point to make, but if you book here expecting a hotel you'll be disappointed. However, as a hostel, it's a bargain, in a great location. Just off Calle de Las Huertas, it's superbly located for bars and restaurants and only a short walk down into the interesting barrios of Lavapies and across to La Latina. It's also well located for a short stroll up to Sol, over to Retiro Parc, or if you must, Plaza Major and Gran Via.The hostel itself is within a secure building. You get a key to the main building, the hostel and your room, so there is no reason to feel unsafe, or worried about leaving your belongings in the room. The building is being variously restored, so it's a bit dusty, but there are no such issues with the hostel which is lovely and clean. It's a basic hostel, so practise your Spanish to make things like checking-in easier. My room (No.6) was a small, but ideal size twin/double. The en suite was similarly compact and clean, but as I said, remember this is a hostel, not a hotel. You chose a hostel for a room while you do other things and if you want somewhere cheap, clean and safe, in a great location, I recommend San Antonio. Hostal-San-AntonioM, Director de Relaciones con Clientes at Hostal San Antonio, responded to this review Dear customersWe thank you chose us to be in Madrid and opinion so positive, we are glad that your stay has been nice to us and we hope we choose again if they return to Madrid. Thank you and receive a warm greeting.
