This hostal is located opposite Callao's main plaza and where all the action is in the roads branching off. The staff at the Valencia Hostal are wonderful people very friendly and the atmosphere family like. Room service excellent and the room with the view was only noisy on one night in 7 the Friday when it it was mainly sirens from Police/Ambulance we slept well and I am a light sleeper. For the location alone well worth a stay. (Covid conscious) also right near a Supermarket. We would stay again, Thank you!!

Basic accommodation in an old building in need of refurbishment. Amazing view.

    rating13 Aug 2019

Very old building, tiny lift which fits 4 people, takes forever to get to the 5th floor if there are lots of people waiting, also the entrance is very dingy, dark and has stairs up to the lift. I was in room 8. Broken window catches, flaking old brown paint, only 2 light bulbs out of 4 worked. Toilet door was sliding, hanging from a metal runner but had come off its runner so you had to drag the metal door closed. I didn't bother because of the noise plus it was too heavy. I was on my own so it didn’t matter but if you were a couple of friends, it might be embarrassing. Old bedding. Whole property in need of a make-over. Very important for you to know is that there were only two plugs/sockets available. As it is an old building, I can appreciate that decades ago, noone had mobile phones/tablets to charge. I had to charge my phone in the toilet and unplug the lamp to charge my tablet. The air conditioning is switched on and off from reception, then you have your own remote control. If the receptionist forgets to turn it on for you when you get your key, as happened to me, you might think you have a faulty remote control. Then you go downstairs and ask for new batteries and the person remembers to turn your a/c on. Extremely noisy, the shower in the next room, people talking in the corridor and of course, the noise of musicians and people clapping and singing till the early hours in Callao, police cars, fire engines etc. The view is amazing but you will need ear plugs.

    Cancellation policy

Accidentally booked a room with a wrong Hotel.com account, cancelled it and rebook it with the right account, then realised it’s under non-cancellation policy.Contacted the hotel immediately, however they are not the friendly type and refused to refund even though I rebook the same room with the new account already. Not been the hotel yet, but already feel not very welcome.

    Cheap and cheerful

16 of us visited Madrid for 3 days and stayed at Hostal Valencia. The Hostal is on the 5th and 6th floors of a 9 storeu building with a lift (holding 4 people). Rooms were fairly basic, but clean and comfortable, with new towels and bed linen every day. The receptionist was pleasant, spoke good English and was very helpful in advising me where to get tickets for a Corrida de Toros. There was an excellent bar/restaurant on the 9th floor with a terrace open to the wonderful October sun, and where we all met each morning. The Hostal is centrally placed on the very busy Grand Via, but noise was miniomal with the windows closed. We all enjoyed our stay and would certainly return.

    Good for a quick stay

Location, safety and budget wise it is a good deal. Located in the center GranVia, it has nice access to all places. Not far from Atocha Madrid station, with taxi fares reasonable a good place to tuck in. For family people (like me), it was OK except for the doors and windows that do not close easily. They need to repair the hinges and locks for those, else you would definitely feel a bit let out on this. Cleanliness is not an issue and well maintained. The place being in the center of the city, watch out for the sounds from the lively atmosphere around you.Lastly, as the name denotes this is a HOSTEL and not a HOTEL.For family folks, I would recommend to keep this as an option for the reason of it being more of a hostel environment rather than the hotel.
