The hotel is located in a building dating back to the early twentieth century, part of the historic Villa de Madrid. It is situated on the famous Atocha, the route that connects the city centre to the Paseo del Prado and Atocha station, each of which are 1 km away.     I stayed here for 5nights. The room was a good size for a standard room. Plenty of hot water and space in the bathroom for toiletries. We enjoyed a welcome drink on the first night. The only negative was a lack of gluten free options on the bar menu. The waiter was unsure what was gluten free. There was a gluten free station at the breakfast buffet and they would heat gluten free rolls if you requested it. The hotel was in a great location- close to the metro and walking distance to many attractions.     Wonderful stay in May

    My wife and I stayed at Catalonia Plaza Mayor from May 19 to May 25 and it exceeded all expectations. Cezar at the front desk made sure our room availability was sped up as we got to the hotel at 10 am with jet lag. He made sure our checked bags were in our room when we entered, and went out of his way to get us an extra chair and towels. Breakfasts were excellent, the room cleaning immaculate, and the property in proper repair and looked like a 4 star hotel that it is.     This hotel really nails it on all fronts. Service, cleanliness, quality, location, spacious, beautifully appointed rooms, and bathrooms. Excellent water pressure. All the amenities one would need as a tourist, like a gym, an on-site bar, and breakfast. I did not try the breakfast because the nearby options were simply amazing. I usually don't call out a specific person in my reviews, but Juan at the front desk - he is the gold standard for service. Thank you, Juan! It is rare to see every person on staff you encounter showing so much enthusiasm, and I saw it here. I have to reiterate the location...smack dab in the middle of everything. The bed was super comfy!     It is hard to beat this hotel’s combination of very central location, nice rooms, and very helpful staff. The gentlemen at the front desk were very helpful during our check-in, and made excellent recommendations and reservation for our dinners. This hotel is definitely a good value.     Outstanding Staff / Highly Recommend

    Our recent stay at Catalonia Plaza Mayor did not go as planned. My wife had a medical emergency the morning of day 2. Hotel staff really stepped up to the occasion. They acted decisively in getting EMT to arrive quickly and my wife was taken to the hospital where she spent a week. As I left, hotel manager Marcos Gonzalez provided his personal cell phone number and asked me to keep him updated. He and I communicated through out my wife’s hospital stay and he expressed genuine concern plus did not hesitate to accommodate our every need, which included two extensions of our stay. Additionally, housekeeping was left an absolute mess in our room too disturbing to describe yet made our room immaculate. Any hotel can receive great reviews when all goes well but the truly exceptional rise to the occasion during crisis and that’s what this team did. I cannot thank Marcos and the staff enough for their outstanding service and I give Catalonia Plaza Mayor my highest recommendation.
