    Unhelpful, horrifically hot rooms

    rating05 Apr 2026

Absolutely terrible stay. Reception was completely unhelpful and offered no remedy at all when we raised concerns. The rooms were oppressively hot, and unbelievably the hotel had decided to turn on the central heating in the middle of a hot day. It made the room incredibly uncomfortable and there is no option to turn on the AC (which is an advertised feature of the property). Do not stay here. MADRID CENTRO LAVAPIES IBIS BUDGET, General Manager at ibis budget Madrid Centro Lavapies, responded to this review Dear Jnstewart,We are sorry to hear that your stay was not comfortable due to the room temperature. We would like to clarify that our air conditioning system operates centrally throughout the hotel, following seasonal settings, and cannot be individually adjusted in each room. However, we regret if this may have caused discomfort during your stay.Regarding the activation of the heating mode in the morning, we would like to kindly note that no changes were made to the system during that time. Nevertheless, we understand how the temperature may have felt and truly regret the inconvenience caused.Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and I hope you’ll give us another chance in the future.Best regards, ibis budget Madrid Centro Lavapies

Very dodgy area, even for only one night!

    rating03 Mar 2026

Small spartan room, but the bed was very comfortable. We booked a one-night stay two months in advance for a little over 160 euro. On arrival, we were shocked to see the hotel’s electronic billboard outside advertizing something over 220 a night ($365 Cdn). We asked for and received a room with access to the hotel’s only terrace, an enormous space, which served three or four other rooms. Only problem was there was no lighting outside so at night, our only illumination was from within our room.Oh yes, this hotel is pretty much right on top of Madrid’s number 1 metro line and the sound of trains passing below shoots right up into the whole building… not much of a problem for heavy sleepers like us but if you’re a light sleeper, you might want to look elsewhere for accommodations. After we checked in, we wandered around a little and found that the area had more than its fair share of homeless people, and a gang of aimless youth, who seemed to be stuck on enjoying themselves in the same spot all day – and presumably all night – long. Although it’s steps from the Reina Sophia gallery, there are more interesting and likely safer places in Madrid.

    AVOID THIS HOTEL

    rating27 Oct 2025

VERY BAD HOTEL, it is clean, but the room size of a prison cell, no table, no chairs, no phone to reception, no safe, no closet, and no place to put two regular-sized suitcases.BAD neighborhood, listed among the most dangerous in Madrid. Did a reservation for 4 nights, stayed only one, and was charged 181 euros for this.... (bad word).Maybe good for young people with a backpack,AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!!!

    Avoid this hotel

    rating10 Sept 2025

Location awful. Rough sleepers and drunks lined the streets outside the hotel. It was very noisy- the hotel is opposite a metro station and trains ran until early hours then started again at 5/6am- we couldn’t sleep. The rooms are very small- if you have suitcases this causes an issue walking in the room. We paid extra for a balcony but it had scaffolding around part of it. Only positive is helpful staff and decent breakfast MADRID CENTRO LAVAPIES IBIS BUDGET, General Manager at ibis budget Madrid Centro Lavapies, responded to this review Hi Debbie,Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. I’m really sorry to hear your stay wasn’t what you hoped for. We know our location can be lively, but it’s definitely a trade-off for being close to the city. The noise from the metro can be a bit much, especially at night—totally get that! As for the room size, we do our best with what we have. Our intention is that even though the room is small, it is cozy. We appreciate your kind words about our staff and breakfast, though!Take care and safe travels, ibis budget Madrid Centro Lavapies

Convenient and good service for solo business travel.

    rating27 Jun 2025

Great for solo business travelers. Typical ibis budget configuration, with shower directly opening onto room and minimal privacy divider for the toilet, so keep in mind if you’re looking to travel as a couple or group. Beyond that, really no room for complaints. The cleaning was top notch, the aircon worked brilliantly in the baking heatwave, breakfast was more on par with a normal ibis spread than the budget brand (fresh juices, fresh pastries, cereals and yogurts, etc. - rather than the prepackaged stuff that I’ve gotten from other ibis budgets). Room and bedding comfortable and also the standard ibis fare.Lavapies is a great area, but the front side of the hotel opens onto the square and can be noisy, so ask for a rear-facing room if you’re sensitive to noise. I did and found it very quiet and private. Nice additional features with balcony on rear rooms of Level 1 and from rooms on Level 5. Catering from Le Room Service a convenient option, but a 24hr Carrefour is just next door. Would return again, if solo in Madrid.
