    5 Nights in Madrid, Spain

    rating11 Mar 2026

After arriving to Port of Barcelona we boarded a high speed train to Madrid the journey too about 3 hours. From the Atocha Station we took an Uber to the hotel for 19 Euros + tip. Travel time was 25 minute to Ibis Madrid Calle Alcalá hotel. A nice modern building with stairs and an elevator. They also have a luggage room to store if you're early to check in and want to explore. The staff was friendly and didn't mind us trying to speaking Spanish at check in. Have your passport ready if your not a citizen of Spain, we completed the process in 5 minutes time and given the key to our room on the 4th floor. Our room had a a desk, small wardrobe, TV , phone and bedside lamps. Make sure to bring an adapter pug or two if you're from the US. The bed was freshly made and the bathroom was clean and had a door to close for privacy. Maid service came daily to straighten up the bed and clean the bath area and deal with the trash. Recycling is common so try to make it easy for the staff. The entry level floor had a daily breakfast around 12 Euros and a bar if in the evening you cared to have a beverage and order something from the house menu to eat. The Metro station was 300 feet from the hotel entrance and was convenient to get around Madrid, we recommend a multi day pass to use on the train and bus system. So we really found our stay to be very comfortable. Wish there had been a coffee pot & small refrigerator in the room, but once you get on to the street there are many small shops and a great market down the street. I recommend this hotel and can't wait to stay again.

The rooms in the hotel did not match the descriptions on the website!

    rating16 Oct 2025

I am trying to work out how to write a complaint about this hotel and this appears to be virtually impossible to do through the website, so I am having to resort to TripAdvisor. I stayed at Ibis Madrid Calle Alcala last weekend with my son and the room did not match the description on the website. While staff were polite, they were not remotely apologetic and made me feel very uncomfortable despite the fact that I was just trying to get the room I had booked! I raised this issue multiple times with the hotel itself on arrival.I booked a superior room. On the website, these are the features it was listed as having that were important to me:City ViewSingle bed x 1Queen size bed x 1Coffee/tea making facilitiesMini barHairdryer in bathroomI specifically chose this hotel (as opposed to the many others that are in the same area, including others in the Accor - and specifically Ibis - group) because of these features and paid extra in order to have them. It is the first time I've gone abroad for almost 10 years and this time I was the only adult, so I chose Ibis because I thought they were a reputable brand and felt 'safe', but now I'm not so sure! When we arrived, we were shown to what looked at first glance to be a 'superior' room, but it only contained one bed. I went back to Reception and pointed out that it only had one bed. They then gave me a new key card. When we went to the 2nd room, we found it did have 2 beds, but definitely was not a 'superior' room. I specifically needed the kettle to take some medication, which required boiled water, and this was why I had ensured I booked a room with this feature. It also didn't have the other 'superior' features, such as more space etc.I went back to Reception and explained that this was not a superior room. I showed them my booking and had open the website on my phone to show them what it said it contained. The Reception staff said that there was no such room at the hotel and it would be impossible for me to have 2 beds in a superior room. I asked if there was another Ibis that could provide what I had booked, since I knew there were many Ibis hotels in the city. They then made a phonecall in Spanish. I didn't understand enough to know who they were talking to or what the discussion was. After this phone call, they produced another key card and told me this was the last room I could try and they had nothing else. When we went up to the room, it was a superior room and did have 2 beds, so at least some of the problems were sorted. However, it did not have tea and coffee making facilities. This meant that I had to resort to complicated methods of getting bottled water heated through the weekend to take my medication. It was also pointless us using some of our luggage allowance to bring thermos flasks to try and keep costs down on our trip - we therefore spent more money than we had budgeted for on drinks. The 'city' view was literally a view of another high-ish rise building opposite in a not-great state of repair! Given that the 'city view' is only available in a superior room, I dread to think what could be an even worse view in other rooms! All I wanted was the room I booked!!! Had I been able to stay in the room I booked, then this hotel was indeed in a great location and the beds were really comfy. However, the stress of having to deal with all of this on arrival really spoilt our trip. I find things like this really stressful and hate having to raise issues, which was why I had paid more and chosen Ibis, because I thought I would be 'safe'. This is a real shame, as I will not be choosing Ibis again in a hurry, but will stick to rivals such as Travelodge, where I have never had a bad experience (but Travelodge specified that they did not provide a kettle hence me choosing Ibis).

Average in general. No bad or good surprises

    rating13 Jan 2025

This is typical Ibis of the 2005-2010 period in terms of room form and appearance. The bed is of the new type. The common entry space: reception, bar, restaurant was recently renovated. The distance to the city centre is big but there are plenty of buses and the metro station very near. Metro peak time horribly overcrowded. Twice during my stay in this hotel the air-conditioning switch in the electric panel was switched off so air-con was not working untill staff was informed. Two plugs only in the room away from the bed. Front rooms have more open space in front and are less claustrophobic. The hotel i. General needs renovation. Lowest accor hotel price/night.

I stayed 3 nights here from 10-13 Oct. 2024, my Spain trip was total 23 days living at 5 hotels, ibis madrid calle alcala is the best one among the all hotels on this trip, ibis sevilla hotel is the poorest one on my experiences. Hotel's hardware was fine with spacious room providing working table,air-cond, wi-fi facilities etc were functional n satisfactory. Hotel was located next to the metro station so traveled out for sightseeing more convenient. The breakfast was not special but it satisfied my requirements. The reception staff were friendly & helpful with very good manner n politely to guests.

    Not up to our expectation..

    rating14 Sept 2024

We stayed for 2 nights after just staying in another Ibis property in Barcelona. Though the location is great with a proximity of 2-minute walking distance from Suanzes metro station, we found that there are some lack of fine detail inside the room. Plugs were scarce, only two on one side of the bed and another one in the bathroom. There were only one bathrobe (even there were two of us in the reservation detail) and no slippers at all. Moreover, they did not provide any adaptor for guests to borrow (they had charger and the cables, but we needed the adaptor for my wife's hair curler). However, the staffs were friendly and helpful. The whole experience could have been better with those finesse in detail.
