Cheap and not very nice downstairs

    rating25 Oct 2017

The pictures you see are from upstairs. Don't be fooled like where. Downstairs is out of the 50's. We asked way before we were to arrive if we could eat in the restaurant they said yes but on the day we arrived they said no unless it was at 22:00 which for us was too late. Gave us useless info about a restaurant which was shut. Ended up in McDonald's after walking around for ages. A real let down.

    Seems nice but not comfortable

    rating20 May 2017

The hostel was more near to Plaza España and Gran Via, where there are many places to eat, and a supermarket. It's clean. It has a mini fridge and microwave in the room. The hostel itself seemed nice but the bathroom was very small, the beds not comfortable and there is no sound isolation in the rooms which is a problem if you think this place is like and apartment offering rooms for stay. The balconies are shared . Air conditioning wasn`t working but we didn`t need it so much because of the spring weather. Considering all this it needs some improvements in order to go there again and pay the price they said.

Good position, difficult to sleep during night

    rating23 Apr 2016

Great position in Madrid centre (you can walk everywhere in the city centre), this "hostal" offers clean rooms and free WiFi. Unfortunately, during the night there's lot of noise due to doorbells, phones and poor isolation.

Cheap. Cute. Convenient. No Fuss central hostel.

First of all, it was hard to find the hostel as there is no major signage outside. The hostel is just one apartment in a building block with another hostel on the same floor. You just have to look for building number 5 and there is a small sign saying Hostel Estrella is on the second floor. The lobby does not give a good impression either, it is old and dated. The hostel itself is just a few rooms in an apartment. No lobby or sitting area inside the hostel. Just a few corridors with a number of rooms. The reception desk is in the kitchen of the apartment where there is also a washing machine and drier. The wifi code is unnecessarily long and complicated and made up of case sensitive letters and numbers all handwritten out to make it more confusing. Having said all this, the rooms themselves are very clean and tidy and cute. Most of the rooms come with their own bathrooms, microwave, fridge, and TV. For the rate, it is incredibly good value as all the rooms are single and private. The location is also fantastic. Just a block away from Gran Via. Closest metro stop is callau. I would definitely stay here again. The keeper is incredibly sweet and helpful . There may be a language barrier as she doesn't speak any English. I had a friend speak to her for me. I recommend this to anybody looking for a cheap place to stay which is both central and private. There are a few nightclubs/lounges in the same alleyway so there's always a group of people hanging out there in the late evenings.

    Nightmare Hostal!

    rating07 Jul 2014

A/C was switched off at night so I had to open window. Couldn't sleep however as the street was noisy. Walls were so thin you could hear conversations from all over. Shower was not working. I complained the next day but the staff couldn't speak English so I had to endure 4 sleepless nights. Location is near gran via but right beside the prostitute district. So many prostitutes roaming around trying to disturb you. Avoid this hostel!
